I'm interested what is your opinion over the situation in video? because I see the comments above, they comment like they haven't seen the video, and it's obviously that they are not well informed and they don't know the backup story with the serbs and the muslims and about the whole damn war. Muslims were killing the serbian civilians in villages that surround the Srebrenice, so general Mladic was pissed when he heard of that, came and had beat the muslim armed forces, forced them to leave the town, and later gave the buses so the muslims and the dutch soldiers can get out of the enclave. I have nothing against any people from anywhere as long as they re nice. But what happened was a huge genocide in middle of the Europe. Thom could be a hero and save many lives, instead he choose to be a coward. And some of these people choose to hate innocent people just because they had a different religion which is perfectly normal. We all have differences but same at the end. And these people were raped, tortured and killed. There are mothers left with tears in their hearts. I have only sadness about this really. No revenge or hate, only sadness. General Mladic was rightfully angry at the UNPROFOR peacekeeping mission in charge of the Srebrenica enclave. The “safe area” of Srebrenica had long been the military base from which Bosnian Muslim forces went out to attack nearby Serb towns. Many scores of these towns were assaulted and several thousand Serbs were killed in these actions in the several years before July 1995.

The only death occurred when the about 8000 muslim troops did flee with some younger civilian men trough the Serb lines to the 50 km TUZLA and came under fire and in minefields - according to a muslim man in a film here in CZcams. Mladic offered all civilians to stay here or to be brought in buses together with the UN troops into Muslim territory and even offered the muslim Soldiers security when they hand over the weapons! You could see it was not easy for him to offer this because of the brutal massacres they did admit on Serbs around Srebrenica, but you did see it was a true offer. They however already were on their way to Tuzla.

The UN soldiers should never have been send there. 200 to 300 men is not enough to do anything. It just creates political difficulties and superior forces will make good use of that. If the Serv commander wanted it, he could just bomb the enclave and be done with it. Do you think that that gives the Dutch commander much to work with? The UN troops were harassed for weeks and they were hungry. I do not blame them being scared. Knowing that they were betrayed by the UN and their own country. If you want to change a situation like that, you should send them in with the necessary firepower and forces.
Naser Orić's 28th Division had 12000 armed men within Srebrenica's "demilitarised" enclave. What are you people talking about, why would anyone foreign send firepower and forces? NATO bombed Serbia for three months by air and missile strikes in 1999 but never sent a single soldier on foot during the invasion. They actualy didn't give up, all civilians were evacuated, under UN control, only Mujahedins who were doing massacres on Serbian civilians around Srebrenica stayed, to be disarmed, exchanged or exsecuted if he did crimes, so only soliders stayed, and civilians were transported to teritories by their choice, no civilian lost life in Srebrenica.

If you research the actual events surrounding Srebrenica, you will find that there have been no crimes by the Serbian military groups in July of 1995, and to talk about genocide is just an insult to actual genocides that have happened throughout history.
This was called 'Getting the Mladic-treatment'. Some other UN officers in 1993 got the same treatment. Mladic would play good cop, bad cop with you and if you're up for it, manipulates you. Srebrenica had ower 40 000 people at the moment. Moust civilians were saved, but males, many of them armed tryed to break trough Serbian lines. In that batle many of them died. 8 000 dead Srebrenica people is not killed at that july. There were many deads from 1992 to 1995 in fights, and not all at Srebrenica but in Zvornik, Zepa, Vlasenica, Visegrad and they all are counted like they died in those few days. But there was big crime in killing around 1 200 people in july 1995. Around Srebrenica Serbs had also 3 500 deaths from 1992 until 1995. Nothing is black and white especialy previous history in ww2 in Srebrenica area where Muslims killed ower 10 000 Serbs in just few days, moustly females and children. If that is what represented the UN Peacekeeping Forces then I can only say that the UN had been doing just that since its formation. The UN Peacekeeping Forces gave way on President Nasser request to demob from Sinai to give way for Nasser to attack Israel, and they did just that (let Nasser had his way). When thousands of rockets fired into Israel by the PA terrorists exploded in city squares and homes in Israel the UN just relax had their good times and watched. When Israel retaliates to the rockets, the whole UN rises up to criticize and rebuke. The UN keep funding the PA and Hamas with aid despite knowing that most of the aid goes to buying of arms and explosives to be used later against Israel. This is what the UN did so far, to disunite people and takes sides.

Tja, moeilijk om nu te oordelen wat er destijds is gebeurd maar ik doe alsnog een gooi. Naar mijn inziens valt Karremans hier weinig te verwijten. Wat waren immers zijn opties? Hij had een onderbewapende eenheid en hij kreeg van de internationale politiek geen backup (zelfs niet van eigen land). His name is Thom Karremans, and he was the lieutenant colonel for Dutchbat. There was a case law in the Netherlands that he was not doing his job properly. He had won that case because the judge said he did not know what Ratko Mladic was going to do with those Muslims.

He and his men did kill no boys or rape anybody, he is an extremely honorable person! The only death occurred when the about 8000 muslim troops did flee with some younger civilian men trough the Serb lines to the 50 km TUZLA and came under fire and in minefields - according to a muslim man in a film here in CZcams. Mladic offered all civilians to stay here or to be brought in buses together with the UN troops into Muslim territory and even offered the muslim Soldiers security when they hand over the weapons! You could see it was not easy for him to offer this because of the brutal massacres they did admit on Serbs around Srebrenica, but you did see it was a true offer. They however already were on their way to Tuzla.

Srebrenica had ower 40 000 people at the moment. Moust civilians were saved, but males, many of them armed tryed to break trough Serbian lines. In that batle many of them died. 8 000 dead Srebrenica people is not killed at that july. There were many deads from 1992 to 1995 in fights, and not all at Srebrenica but in Zvornik, Zepa, Vlasenica, Visegrad and they all are counted like they died in those few days. But there was big crime in killing around 1 200 people in july 1995. Around Srebrenica Serbs had also 3 500 deaths from 1992 until 1995. The UN Peacekeeping Forces gave way on President Nasser request to demob from Sinai to give way for Nasser to attack Israel, and they did just that (let Nasser had his way). When thousands of rockets fired into Israel by the PA terrorists exploded in city squares and homes in Israel the UN just relax had their good times and watched. When Israel retaliates to the rockets, the whole UN rises up to criticize and rebuke. The UN keep funding the PA and Hamas with aid despite knowing that most of the aid goes to buying of arms and explosives to be used later against Israel. This is what the UN did so far, to disunite people and takes sides.

Tja, moeilijk om nu te oordelen wat er destijds is gebeurd maar ik doe alsnog een gooi. Naar mijn inziens valt Karremans hier weinig te verwijten. Wat waren immers zijn opties? Hij had een onderbewapende eenheid en hij kreeg van de internationale politiek geen backup (zelfs niet van eigen land). De val van Sebrenica valt dan ook moeilijk in zijn schoenen te schuiven (sterker nog, dat kunnen we niet eens doen want de politiek is verantwoordelijk). Had hij hier de stoere kerel moeten uithangen en de mensen daar met hand en tand moeten verdedigen? Wellicht, maar wat was het resultaat geweest daarvan? Eervol ten onder gaan met de gedachte dat je echt alles had gegeven?! Nee, in dit geval was het een zinloze dood geweest (want winnen zat er echt niet in) en zou eventueel zelfs tot een grote provocatie leiden en tot grotere acties van Mladic. De VN en NL hebben Karremans laten stikken. Mensen zoals oud-premier Kok zijn hier de personen met bloed aan hun poten. Ze hebben Karremans voor de leeuwen gegooid en hem de schuld gegeven van de doden. Wat we hier zien is een man die bijzonder wordt bedreigd en zelf niet middelen heeft om wat terug te doen. Zijn uitspraak "dont shoot the pianoplayer" is op zijn zachtst gezegd ongelukkig, maar was helaas het moment. Bedenk wat jezelf had gedaan als je daar had gestaan?! Het draait allemaal dan om het momentum. Wat we dan ook hier zien is een pijnlijk, zeer pijnlijk moment voor zowel NL, de VN als voor Dutchbat met als gevolg 8000 doden.

I mean, I'm Serbian and I love Mladic ( he was fighting for Serbs, except 2000 war imprisoners I don't see any other crime) but i'm just saying, in my opinion UNPROFOR forces were too weak, they couldn't do more. Christ: Karremans was left alone by his commanders - asking many times for help/air support - denied all the time. Mladic came in, threatend him, controlling a serb army with heavy arms, the dutch only with a few magazins for their rifles, with light weapons. Mladic humilitaing him, on a cynic way. At least he is rotten in a prison since 10 years where he belongs, finally. An still some comments here on youtube calling karremans a coward. Easy to say on a couch at home guys…

What was the name and rank of this rank officer? He is unable to even negotiate. He apologizes to Mladic for his troops shooting in self defense. Incredible. So passive. The French attacked the Serbs back in Sarajevo to retake a bridge. They showed force when provoked. Probably the massacre could have been avoided with better leadership.
His name is Thom Karremans, and he was the lieutenant colonel for Dutchbat. There was a case law in the Netherlands that he was not doing his job properly. He had won that case because the judge said he did not know what Ratko Mladic was going to do with those Muslims.

@@stefpix he had max 400 troops, and was surrounded by 2000 serbian soldiers from 3 different brigades, after something that happened they didn't allowed to those soldiers from UN to exchange so they were deprived of sleep, food,... with no air support, well air support came a day later when serbian military was in front of the city
Order was to unarmed muslims or serbian military will attack, i think it was a political fight between Mladic and Karadzic or something to that extent to win support from serbs around Srebrenica who were massacred by muslims from 1992-1995, which ended in yet another massacre/genocide
