Dude needs to stop comparing Chile with Colombia and Venezuela ffs. It's like comparing Canada with the US & Mexico (which nobody does) or Italy with France. Chile is it's own country with it's own culture, style, customs, etc. And to state the food is bad is just ... (rolls eyes). The food is delicious; it's just not the stereotypical food people associate with Latin America. ay Dios Mio!
Actually, Canada and Mexico have a lot in common with the USA, especially Canada. That’s a bad comparison. And Italy and France have a lot in common too, another bad comparison. lol I think he was expecting something similar to Portuguese food in Chile, but he shouldn’t had such high expectations.
@@thekingofmoney2000 I am Canadian/Chilean and I live in Canada and nope, it's not a bad comparison at all. I have yet to see someone on this thing we call the internet try to compare Mexico to Canada & vice-versa🤣🤣🤣just because they're on the same continent. But whatever. Constantly comparing South American countries is asinine, ignorant and disrespectful, and *that* is my opinion.
Exactly. Like I said in another comment, I feel like he came to Chile with the expectations of it being the typical stereotype of what a latin country should be, and then was disappointed when he realized that the country didn't live up to the idealization he had on his mind of the "spicy latinos" he was expecting to find here, instead of just accepting it's a different country with a different culture, which was made evident with the constant comparisons to Venezuela and Colombia. It's like if I went to Portugal and criticised it's food by comparing it to the food I had in Morocco; it simply wouldn't make any sense.
@@thekingofmoney2000 Portugal is a warm South Mediterranean country and Chile IS NOT. Probably he thought because of the ocean and South America Chile would be a warm, mild-weathered Mediterranean country, well IT'S NOT.
@@amiquigonzales7917 Its is, though? At least the central region of the country has template, mediterrenean-like climate, with very defined seasons including a cold winter and a hot summer. The north is very hot and dry. The south is colder and more humid.
It is coming from a Portuguese which is know to have the most understated food and possibly the best in the world, so take it with a grain of salt. A British would probably say the food is good, no disrespect to British people.
Portuguese people have really wonderful cuisine, so I’m sure to him, Chilean food is drab in comparison.
The Portuguese guy says Chilean food is more like “junk food”, but he loves Colombian and Venezuelan food. Men, junk food is the combination of fat, salt and sugar, can you let me know where you can get more fatty and salty food? Venezuelan and Colombian food is mostly fried fatty and salty food, obviously more tasty, but that’s the main characteristic of junk food 😅😅 🤦🏻♂️.

What is said about cheese is true, Chile lags behind in this specific item but it is because here the production of cheese is not allowed except with pasteurized milk, unlike some European countries where it is allowed. The greatest variety of cheeses is found in imported cheeses that have already passed a certification process.
Mantecoso > Chancho > Ranco > Gouda
You can make great cheese with pasteurized milk, so I don't think that is the reason. All milk must be pasteurized in Australia, but we have much more variety of cheese there. I think Chileans just like boring cheese.
I never realized how passive we are at pubs, that's absolutely correct, but you can still talk to strangers if you are extroverted enough haha
I feel like the issue with the Portuguese dude was mainly a matter of expectations, which is made clear with the constant comparisons to Venezuela and Colombia. He probably came to Chile uninformed, expecting it to cater to his stereotypical view of latin america (sun-tanned and extremely outgoing people, spicy food, vibrant nigh-life, etc.), instead of just accepting Chile as it is.
It would've been much more reasonable to compare it to countries like Perú or Argentina that are much more similar culturally. He could've just said something like "Chile wasn't what I was expecting" or at the very least "I didn't like Chile", instead of just claiming that Chile is just "bad" and "weird" because it didn't meet his biased expectations. He came off as very judgemental and borderline insensitive. I wouldn't go to, say, Japan and just rant of how awful it is compared to Thailand when they are two very different cultures that just happen to be on the same continent.
Judgemental because he had an opinion about food? He is comparing food to Portuguese food so yes, I would recommend you try Portuguese food. Granted we always like the food we grew up eating…
Europeans are more direct than Latin Americans in general, they don’t have as much of a filter and just say whatever they think.
@@klimtkahlo again, opinion would be saying something like “I personally don’t like Chile”, “Chilean food is not my favorite” or “It can be hard to make friends here because people are more introverted”. Instead he was using absolutes like “people here are weird”, “food here sucks”, etc., as if they were objective truths and not just his opinions based on expectations that weren’t met. Plenty of other people had criticisms or culture shocks regarding Chile, none were nearly as judgemental and insensitive as the portuguese dude.
@@thekingofmoney2000 yet I was fine with everything else said by the other europeans…
@@thekingofmoney2000 and saying “europeans” like it’s just one big country doesn’t make sense, it depends on each individual culture. That’s the problem with this guy to begin with. I wouldn’t go to Russia and constantly complained because they don’t have good Pizzas unlike Italy.

I never thought I was gonna hear someone that LITERALLY sounded like talking at 2x speed. The lady from California nailed it. Like I myself speak fast but there's something in her voice that makes it sound like she's digitally edited, I don't know I had to rewind the video a couple times to check if it looked as fast as it sounded when she was taking. I might sound weird but I'm just mindblown. She could go viral on tiktok, I mean I got to the point of thinking she was too slow so you had to edit her to 2x just to keep up with the rhythm of the interviews and I mean it in the best possible, not creepy, really not passive-aggressive, absolutely self-conscious way.

colombian food? wtf bro they put cheese in the coffe man.
People who’re complaining about how the guy is comparing Chile with other Latin American countries, I get you. You can see his skewed POV here at 2:04 when it shows that he holds on to stereotypes about Latin America and Asia. 🙄 Asia is such a diverse continent with nomadic tribes traversing the unforgiving deserts in West Asia, sherpas scaling the snowy peaks in the Himalayas, and islanders sailing across tropical islands in Southeast Asia. And yet Hong Kong is supposed to be the ultimate representative of all that? Obviously the man likes to put things in boxes, and the boxes reek of racism born out of old Western Imperialism.
The guy from Portugal does not know what is good.

You can tell she is still very Dutch because she said Chile was just backwards lmao, only a dutch would be so honest and direct. Still, I would like to know what she considers backwards, cause some things as infrastructure are objectively inferior, while other things as cultural traits are not necessarily so straightforward.
I guess she was referring to when she arrived and she said it was 15 years ago so I couldn't agree more that 2009 Chile was way behind Europe at the time, especially in terms of how open-minded or liberal people were, but also because we lacked on presence of international brands (I'd say it was between 2007 and 2017 that it changed really fast) and also, in terms of infrastructure, in general, the most prominent city changing projects started on the early 2000s
Well, she said Chile was backwards when she first arrived. Just for context, in 1990 almost half of the population was under the poverty line, with many slums that had horrible infraestructure and many malnourished kids. Nowadays, less than 10% of the population is poor, almost all slums have been eradicated and we have an obesity problem in vulnerable areas, which I'll take any day of the weak instead of malnourishment. If she arrived in those years, as a chilean I would totally get why she'd say that.
@@andresvaldiviesovera6877 That was my point exactly, what did she refer to. I would say infrastructure is still deficient in Santiago (I live here and been several times to the netherlands) but mentality at least imo should not be thought as "forward or backwards". Specially in this channel, because if it was for that then we could say all latin caountries are backwards and end of the story.
@@Gaboxxy96 She arrived around 2009, not in the 90s.

As a chilean I agree that the cheese variety here has a lot to improve. We're really good with meltable sandwich cheeses, but to arrange a snack platter or an cheese plate you won't find anything.
That's crazy. Especially since you have a lot of wine, and the two go together
I've been to other countries in South America and they're even worse. The whole continent has to improve, but Chile and Argentina are leaders regarding cheese variety availability tbh
@@HippiePajon Chile never had a big tradition of eating cheese by themselves, it's almost always in sandwiches, empanadas or things of that sort. That said, the cheeses we do have are very decent for their intended purposes, especially the "mantecoso" or "chanco" variety.

It is so good to hear that foreigners who live in Chile feel great about the country overall. A great compliment for Chile. As Chilean who has been living outside of Chile for nearly 50 years and haven’t been back for decades, it is refreshing to listen to people talking like this about Chile.

I wonder what they mean by the cheese issue. Do they perceive that chilean-made cheeses are lacking or that cheese in general (whatever its origin) is lacking in Chile? Because for chilean cheeses, I know a lot of different varieties: traditional (cow milk) cheese, goat cheese, sheep milk cheese, vegan cheese, fresh cheese...And for cheese in general, well, there are literally cheese-from-around-the-world aisles in most supermarkets in big cities.🤔

first viewer, woohooo. I want to visit south America. Is it safe?
South America is really big - I'd say there are places that are really dangerous and places that are really safe. I felt safe everywhere in Chile except in Valparaiso. Many people had warned me about going to Buenos Aires but its city center seemed really safe as well. Brazil didn't feel very safe but it's still doable if one pays attention and knows how to act in more dangerous places. All three countries were beautiful and interesting. I'd say, take the necessary precautions and avoid super sketchy places but never let people scare you out of traveling to South America.
South America overall isn’t the safest but Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Costa Rica are the safest and most developed countries from the region.
Depends on the country and depends on the city. It’s not the safest part of the world, but it’s also not the most dangerous either. Just use common sense and do your research, and you should be fine.
No, don't come.
Go to safe areas by daytime in dangerous places, there are several countries who are safe (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Costa Rica, South of Brazil) and don't look elegant and pricey, just a normal person with a very limited budget, don't carry all day long down the street expensive laptops, tablets or high-class mobiles and you'll be fine.

pues siii No te gustó !!
SIMPLE TE MANDÁS A CAMBIAR ..
"The food in Chile is very bad". 🙄
FLOJO PARA COCINAR. NADA QUE HACER.
Firts eat valvidia cheese and then we talk good honey 😊
the food in chile is VERY BAD !! so true !!!
Andense a sus países! 😅
HI! It's good that someone really sees us as we are, and not with those clumsy, absurd adulations. If you go to Europe, you have no idea what Chile is, we believe that we are important in the world, we are this and it is reality. Greetings from Viña
Did they just say Chileans have a HEALTHY relationship with alcohol. ?
I didn’t agree with the Portuguese dude , first of all the Portuguese food is super similar to Chilean food , stop comparing with Colombians and Venezuelans , if you like them so much you can always move there , since always even before the 70’s Chileans love Japanese culture
@sebby26

@@javivi_sapphic y yo hablo 3 idiomas y no descuido mi presentación personal... Y por trabajo he estado en 32 países... Cazuela junk food food ? What’s that ?
The portugal guy seems that he hates chile somehow, just leave the country if you don't like it xd
Estupideces el afán de validar y comparar !
The food is really bad ? Wtf
To Guillermo who said that Chilean food is very bad .... haha jaja . 1) No one has invited you to Chile, so we look forward to you leaving Chile asap. 2). He is crazy , go and eat in the UK and then make a COMPARISON !
@@thekingofmoney2000I'm Brazilian. It's better to live among mestizos chileans than to live among white Brazilians and Argentines.
Mestizos chileans are richer and is safer around them
