Lighthouse tracking has some negatives, but after watching videos on IMU trackers it really makes me appreciate how little setup is required for Vive or Tundra trackers. Hopefully the Vive Ultimate trackers will have that advantage too.
The “small calibration errors” is mostly the rotation of the earth. That’s been a problem since the beginning of oceanic navigation, until the GPS era eliminated the need for a navigator on every commercial aircraft. Gyroscopes do drift, but they’re also accurate enough to stay in the position they were before rotating around the Earth. I think realistically since they’re not on a ship or airplane, the developers nearly eliminate this problem by entering your coordinates.
I have a little tip with trackers for users that aren’t sure the difference between tracking solutions:
IMU = Rotation
Camera = Position
Lighthouse = Rotational/Positional

You could probably use SlimeVR with your owoTracker phone at the same time as the AXIS just to emulate a hip tracker

Yes, although I don't like the idea of running two disconnected IMU models. Maybe we'll see these up and running with SlimeVR soon.
@@TahvoStudio Same problem I have with my HaritoraX 1.1 people have suggested using owo track and slime for hip with it but it just feels off since it's not actually using it

I love that these don’t need a mess of wires like the HaritoraX does, buuuuut at the cost of such a low battery life… I don’t think I’m ready for that yet
To be fair, the lower end of the battery life is due to the haptics and can be disabled.
@@TahvoStudio Oh! Is the 4 hours of life you showed on screen with or without haptics? Cause if that’s with haptics and they last longer without, theeeeen I can see them being worth it

Haptic trackers are a good idea, but the Axis software just doesn't look as robust as SlimeVR. I'd love to see you revisit this later when they've added the planned features!

Hey quick question, what’s the best way to clean the lenses of your headset? I’ve been using a microfiber cloth but I don’t really think that’s a good idea since I’m worried about trapped debris that in the cloth scratching my lenses

Use a dry optical lens microfiber cloth to clean your headset lenses. Don’t use liquid, alcohol-based or chemical cleansers.
Starting from the center of the lens, gently wipe the lens in a circular motion moving outwards.
Are these similar to the slimes in that they require a good 2.4ghz wifi connection in order to maintain tracking? I have some DIY slimes that work great when there is a stable connection, but I do not really know the best way to improve my 2.4ghz connection as the router is a distance away, so I am faced with horrible disconnecting issues.

I have light houses but every time I go to order Tundra Trackers they're out of stock. IMUs have the advantage of being able to be taken places to show them off. I wouldn't want to set up lighthouses

My response is based on other videos attempting to get trackers to work with Quest 2 and think it applies here as well. Quest 2 knows nothing about trackers. It's all up to the application/program/game that can recognize both different brand input devices and combine their inputs. It seems like a lot of configuration time is needed to make any different brand tracker product work. I can guess from your question you are like me. We have a Quest 2 and want to add some body tracking. I have not seen a Quest/tracker combo review that I'm willing to spend money on that tracker system. Just keep reading those reviews.
Whenever I see a product like this, if it is more expensive than a quest 2 then why bother :/ . Hopefully the release a "lite" version in the future. Just like pico fitness trackers
what IMU's are in these?
they don't say on their website but i'm guessing BNO085's or similar as they are the most popular 9dof IMUs (also the same ones used in official slimes)

IMO hip tracking is 99% of the rest of full body tracking. Sometimes i want precise knee/elbow tracking, never gave a shit about precise foot tracking.The hip is the pivot around which almost all body language revolves. Simple shit like nodding your head is better with one hip tracker

I’m appalled that there is no hip tracker at that price, it really is needed for any level of accuracy with imu only tracking solutions
why have the compenys that make fullybody trackers have not make a tracker with both base station tracking with imu tracking! It would fix all problems with imu dift and base station occlusion! it just dumb and would never lose traking!
If I'm not mistaken, Lighthouse trackers also have IMUs for short-term usage (e.g. if I cover my Vive Wand it vaguely moves correctly for a short period of time), they just aren't set up right for the full calibration IMUs need. Those IMUs might also not be as high quality? Not sure.
Regardless, as you say, it'd be awesome to have the option to fully calibrate the IMU side if you want the flexibility that VR session, or to skip it that time for simplicity.
I think Axis already does that with their higher tiers? Since it uses the “phone hub” to do positional tracking

my friend has this tracker(9) of them. and he hates it.
Unfortunately what I'm seeing here is that they are more expensive slimes with way worse battery life, and Slime already aren't that great. RIP
