Sir Nigel Hawthorne, an amazing actor, playing a King, of regality and power, still reminds me of a humble civil servant who has absolutely no power over his Minister and future Prime Minister but has the cunning brain and excellent command of the English language and his profound exegesis of the law to achieve power. 😂
those "grandchildren" on this movie could be illegitimate children of prince William, his third son. The only surviving legitimate grandchildren while king George III still partially healthy was princess Charlotte.
@@thunderbird1921 Queen Victoria I, Queen of Great Britain was the child of His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. Great performances by Nigel Hawthorne and Helen Mirren!
And Julian Wadham as Pitt should be mentioned as one of several excellent supporting actors. A most enjoyable movie.
What a splendid and deep performance by Nigel Hawthorne. He totally swept me off my feet.
One of the great endings in all of film, he's showing, sick or well, he's their king.
What a jolly climax of such a drama when he finally recovered, eventhough in reality he had relapsed again externaly, what a tragedy
One of the greatest movies of all times
I firmly agree. Even the trailer is amazing.
A great film, I saw it in a theatre when it came out. A wonderful performance by Sir Nigel.
I love King George III and yes, I'm American. I've read many books about him by Jean Plaidy.
She’s the best
As an American I salute His Majesty King George the third
I'm just now seeing the responses to my post. And, yes, Jean Plaidy is the best.
Thanks for posting, thanks to Alan Bennett for writing and thanks to the cast especially the superb Nigel Hawthorne

The disease is periodic, unpredictable- and hereditary.

Easy for you to say Louis.
And uncurable...so theoretically, somewhere down the line, it could show up again. Every British royal today is related to him.
Music is all by the great composer George Frederick Handel
What what.

Who's child was Victoria? Charlotte or one of the others?
