Imagine the last guy who used that axe head. I wonder what his life was like, and how long ago was it. Anyway, you gave that axe head a second chance.

Found one in the shed at a hunting camp I got from my step father. Camp been in his family since 1800 or so and no idea when that Plumb showed up, was used then set in a corner. What a great axe.

My father always told me: Make good use of your time, and be a good citizen. The man would use his sick time at the company throughout my whole childhood to make sure everyone in the neighborhood was dug out when it snowed. Buckin' Billy Ray reminds me of that stuff. Friends if I'm not feeling right, I'm slowly coming to realize that the medicine is being kind in community. We all have something to give. Simplify, slow down, and do that thing you always wanted to do.

Yep, Hi Buckin', it is a community. I made a comment and got a couple really nice and warm reply comments to that. You draw a group of likeable folks. Your site is kinda like a woodstove. It takes honest hard work to bring all that wood in from the forest and buck and split it...it takes some sense to keep it burning...and it draws folks to its warmth. thats what you do. Smiling, George.

Hey Billy, thank you brother for what you do to put good back in the world. You are an inspiration my brother, I can’t say enough. Recently I found an older ax head and I believe it’s at least 25-30 years old, I’ve been living here for 22 years and the property is my great grandfathers. I’m really hoping this ax head my be my grandfathers from when he was a younger man, that would mean a great deal to me if so. I just bought a solid true running grain hickory handle for the ax head & im taking my time with it but brother I’m learning everything I do from watching you hang your bits. Thank again, keep the goodness coming.

Today was the last day of deer hunting in Maine. While hunting I found a foundation miles out in the middle of paper company land. Way out in the middle of the woods. I found a dug well and they used rocks for the well casing. Rock walls that are in magnificent shape. It’s very cool. I was told the foundations are from horse and buggy days. Which makes sense because I found a civil war headstone and grave. So next week I’m bringing my step sons up with the metal detectors I got them and I’m hoping and praying I can find some really old axe heads that are still solid enough to handle. I have showed them both your channel and they agree that if we find any that we will send them to you!!! Have a great evening everyone

The tools that are in the roughest shape make for the most satisfying and special restorations. There's really something fulfilling about taking something that has a long history, and showcasing that history while imbuing a bit of yourself in it, and giving it a new life in the process. I have an old smoothing plane from 1862, and I'm filled with a sense of wonder every time I pick it up. It's amazing to think the wood it's made from started as a seedling probably well over 200 years ago, and someone hand made that plane and used it everyday to make things so that they could feed their family.

I have to agree, I put together my grandpas old 4 LB. PLUMB a while back. Has to be 60 years old maybe more. Store bought hickory handle, but, I built a little character into her with some fractile burning. Splits better than my fancy New-ish Helko Werk TAZZY, which I REALLY like as well, but grandpas old axe is my GO-TO, every time.
