Loved the history presented here. That old photo of the beach will probably be too hard to find the spot. They've probably altered the beachline so much over the years. What once was public has probably all become private by now. Not surprised about the Pamela story....LOL. Loved seeing the Carty's buildings. Those old tourist cabins are awesome. Next time I watch Grapes I'll look for that scene. Too bad much of Route 66 has turned so desolate. But that's "progress" isn't it? Anyway - loved the video. Thanx guys for never disappointing. While watching your previous episode, I immediately thought about The Grapes of Wrath. If I remember correctly (it's been 40+ years since I read the book), Needles was basically the entry point into California for the Oakies, which they thought of as the Promised Land after all the struggles they had been through. I'm amazed they actually shot scenes from the movie here, when there were any number of closer desert locations they could have used.

That depends on how much snow they get in the mountains. Like other places, Colorado is heating up. Used to be it would get into the upper 80's during the summer, then a light afternoon shower would make it perfect. It was the most beautiful summer weather. Now 90's nearly every day, sometimes over 100 degrees during summer.

I remember when George Strait come out with that song, " Ocean Front Property ". back in the 80's. I remember saying, ocean front property means the desert. Needles is an Interesting place.
