Neewer Q4 flash is more powerful than you think for photography

- The Neewer Q4 flash strobe for photography is much more compact for travel and baggage because of the flat shape and removable handles. The battery is inside the body, not outside which helps it be even more compact. Most would automatically compare it with other 400ws photography flash strobes, but I am comparing it here with the Flashpoint Godox AD600 for a number of reasons discussed in this video. When using softboxes, it is 2 stops less than a 600, but when using a specific reflector (even with diffuser), it can be almost as powerful as a 600 (only one third of a stop difference! So if you travel a lot or do wedding photography etc, this is a great flash for outdoor portrait photography in both HSS and non HSS. It requires a Neewer flash trigger and will not work with Godox or other flash triggers. Check out this video and learn more, like how it costs almost HALF as much as comparable similar flashes!

Mate. You’re a real card. I vote your the most honest and reliable. It has helped me considerably.
Good Day Mr. Markus. I think between the pricepoint and ability to lie flat in your case/bag/whatever makes the Neewer a excellent choice (especially if on a budget). But I have to say that your showing and explaining how the different reflectors can add a stop (or so) was great to learn. So apparently and old Dog (like myself), can still learn 'stuff'.... so thanks!
Thanks Markus. I was surprised to see how much of a difference the different reflectors are.
Thank you for your honest reviews. I appreciate hearing the bad as well as the good about the gear that's out there.
Still amazes me how the bevel reflector makes a huge difference
Your videos are the best. Thank you for all you do!!
MARKUS! Love your humor!!! Another awesome video. Neewer = Weener
Markus, Thank you for your input on the Q4 and the extra tips!!
You proved the light has a great performance, and the price is really good, plus Neewer often offers extra discount and that makes my wallet happy 😅
When I first saw this on another CZcams channel, I immediately wondered what you’d think. Good timing. I’d always thought Neewer was just marketing Godox gear. Clearly that’s not the case (now).
Thanks for the review.
As always a great review!!!👍👍👍
Thanks Markus for another great gear review.
Thanks Markus, I like your reviews!
Thanks for amazing review.
I have one and I think it is the best value for money strobe at the moment.
A little work with a dremel and no more problems with mounting diffusers. Got mine at a steal for &287.
I'd be up for mixing and matching these with my AD200s and AD100s if I needed some extra power for an outdoor shoot or large group. However, the fact that it's not compatible with the Godox trigger is kind of unfortunate. I DO have an R2 receiver, so I can easily add it that way, but if I wanted an additional light (2 Neewer Q4s) I'd have to get another R2 unit. Although they're not expensive, I've just gotten spoiled on not needing to buy receivers for my light since the Godox line has them built in :D BUT for under $400...that's not a bad deal for a light that has almost the same output as the AD600. Good find!
this is my exact same reaction. If I could mix & match with my godox/flashpoint units & trigger I would put this on my "to buy" list.
How do you connect with R2 receiver? I don't see a hotshoe
@Marshallchandra Sorry, I misspoke. I have an X1 receiver. Not sure why I kept saying R2. But regardless, the wireless triggers all have a port to connect a sync cable directly to any flash unit regardless of brand so long as you have the right size cable.
Are you sure it's not compatible? It shouldn't be, but i noticed that the user interface, fhe buttons, the display, menu and even the basic reflector and the bulb are the same as the godox ad600pro.. they probably have many same components
been dying to see this review on your site! The neewer light flat design caught my eyes when it came out. I like knowing i can pack several of these in one case compared to the regular bulky cylinder bodies. The only disappointment is the weight. I assumed it would be a couple of pounds lighter but i was wrong:/ But the price point is pretty awesome! Thx for the review!
Also you need all Neewer gear and trigger,, unfortunately won't mix with Godox
thanks you great 👍😃 that is most honest information in Web
That sponsorship bit at the beginning made me lol
Great review.. nice to have more options, too bad it doesn't work with the Godox trigger though
Great video.
Love the video
The Rubber does feel good…..Shut Up Mark! First time here and subscribed, thank you!
I've been watching a whole bunch of your videos for video light recommendations. Boy, you reviewed a lot of them over the last year or so! Today, which affordable really bright video light are you highly recommending?
I almost bought the Zhiyun Molus x100 but double checked your channel for a review first and I'm glad I didn't!
Thanks!!!!
Thank for your effort of making this video, sound very good deal to me. Is it bowen mount? How is its awb for long period shooting?
the reflectors with the facets are so much better then the textured ones. huge difference.
TY.
Those reflectors concentrate the light in the center so you get a hotspot. I never shoot with reflectors. Put them in a softbox and and then check the output.
Hey Markus! Did you see that MagMod came out with a collapsable 8" reflecctor? Please review the MagMod XL!
can I charge and use it at the same time (full power with the LED light) need it for a photobooth
Good Day Markus, Have you ever critiqued the Paul C. Buff Celestial monolights? If so, what were your thoughts?
I like!
Interesting stuff indeed. Got to say that aesthetically, there's something about the Neewer I don't like - but I support it's performance that really matters. But, you mentioned that some Bowens mount modifiers won't attach the the apparent Bowens mount of the Neewer - that's an issue if you have a collection of Bowens mount stuff already and you don't know what will or won't fit.
I have several lights and several bowls and softbox inserts, which are all by Godox and even they are not consistent. Very frustrating. My 3D printer and cutting used coffee cans came to the rescue to fabricate mods.
Just like God you can create LIGHT Markus!!
Great.
When Cara is shooting the video of you, what is she using? I know that you said you like 1080, and these videos are always so clean, fast focused, and the sound is great.
Sony RX100vii shooting 1080 60p. Audio is recorded separately
The godox ad600 wistro reflector doesn't fit on the ad600 Pro either I had to take a file and grind the ends haha.
Great video! Does the neewer trigger basically work the same as the Godox pro trigger? Just looked it up, and the Q4 can be optically triggered, so thats cool!
Godox cannot be used with Neewer, but they work the same
Oh well if there's an optical slave mode for that Q4 it becomes a much more desirable addition to a lighting setup. Who wants to be mixing wireless triggers?
I concur on the ad600bm I upgraded to a pro and I regret it because it has not been any better. TTL is a mix bag. Outdoors bright conditions or at night it gets thrown off. It was on sale and I sold my bm to pay the difference still wonder if the $300 was a good move. It is slightly larger and heavier. Anyways nowadays it stays home. I am using the ad100pro and ad300pro.
Sir Markus the NEEWER Q4 is Rebranded of Godox, JINBEI or VISICO?
Markus thumbs up says a lot. Neewer can already use this vid as proof
I just bought the Q4 on Amazon for $250!
How well would that reflector work with the AD-B2 dual head for the Godox ad200? I recently picked up a 2nd 200 and would like to get a good output from the dual head mount. I also debated the magmod dual mount set up as well.
Good question, but I can't answer it as I gave away both my AD-B2s a few months ago
How are you going to trigger the Q4? Do you have to change over to the Neewer trigger? or is there a way to adapt Godox to trigger Neewer?
You need a Neewer trigger
Oh! If we were to use that with a Godox receiver, would it work with HSS in case that's needed? I don't always like using HSS, but sometimes it's useful. Did you test that out yet?
It doesnt work with Godox transmitters, you need the Neewer transmitter, and yes it does HSS
@MarkusPix no, I meant connection a Godox receiver to it...I wondered if when doing that, if HSS would work.
Ty the AD600, what's the difference between pro and non pro?
czcams.com/video/-mE4rQlSv7M/video.html
For the price it's good, but I'm not buying because I don't want to buy a trigger, and then what do I do with my other Godox equipment? If the godox trigger worked with this, I might get one. Also I think that while the total volume is less, the AD600 would seem to pack more easily into equipment bags. Packing this in a suitcase is very niche. In my kit there are "places" where things go, and the Q4 dimensions seem hard to fit in... too wide one way, too tall the other.
Lol
What about if you swapped the bulbs? Godox into the Neewer
different bulbs
What diffuser are you using with the Leftphoto reflector? I don't see the reflector and diffuser sold together
www.adorama.com/fplfxp004.html
@@MarkusPix Thank you!
Can you use the bulb from the Godox light on the Neewer and vice versa?
no
@@MarkusPix bummer but thanks for the confirm!
I'm a Panasonic owner... can you make it work in Manual mode with your trigger (N, C or S) in any Panasonic or Olympus, that will help me a lot!!! If case that you make it work... can you also try HSS? Thank you in advance....
Yes Neewer makes a Panasonic trigger that can of course do manual and HSS
@@MarkusPix Thank you for answering... and does it work with the Q4... I can't find the model of the Panasonic trigger 😥😥
can you use it while it's charging?
Yes.
Whats with owerheating, i didnt seen any cooling system?
It vents the heat. I love this light.
sweet, but it should work with Good trigger...
Godox trigger or bust....
I don't anymore care about OEM flashes and their own triggers, and same is with almost every other. I want compatibility between OEM camera bodies, so I can just keep one flash setup and get one trigger for all.
And GoDox does that best.
I agree. I just wanted to see how portable this thing was for suitcases
@@MarkusPix for this it looks great, but as you said, 4 AD100 will do almost the same, easier to pack and one can shape the light
@@ArminHirmer I still prefer AD200 for the compromise of power and combination to different modifiers.
While color balance is not critical IMHO for portraits, it is for product photos where multiple shots needs to be combined and have same colors.
AD100 is a great travel flash, but I can't really see the shape of this being so much better when it is boxy one.
Great value if one just needs few flashes and doesn't require to play with multiple other devices.
I don't remember now how much did the grounded glass help against hot spots in modifiers, avoiding requirement to use double diffuser fabric, but requiring special trigger is just no go for me...
@@paristo yeah, I have AD200 and AD100 and happy with it. Sometimes is just the need for a bit more light though :)
can you get your camera person a gimble?
c o o l
Neewer product good but Godox better specially in service ur comparing is good knowledge and experience sir
Something doesn't make sense to me. Between 5:00 and 5:45 you compare the light outputs of the two lights with the high output reflector. They are both about 32. But when you add the diffuser, the light output on the 6 is barely reduced. But on the 4 it is reduced significantly. Why would that be? Something doesn't sound right.
32 to 22.8 is still only one third of a stop, same difference
Yahoo
If you're already in another ecosystem, you just have to either dump it and go with these, or add them to your collection. For me, I'm going with these because I don't have any studio lights yet. I'll take the money I save and put it into a good portrait lens for my Zf.
I like your videos, honestly think if you do another haircut you'll have much more views :D
Lemme guess, you have no hair 😄
@@MarkusPix I'm a female with quite long hair
@@MarkusPix :D
Great video Marcus, very informative.
What mske is the diffuser you use on the curved 7'x reflector please ! ?
www.adorama.com/fplfxp004.html
Ha-ha! In my neck of the woods it's not even available yet... 😜
🌞🌞 🤔 🌞🌞
When ypu begin to tilt the light, the balance is thrown off. Also,if you grind down some of the Bowens prings, they will fit in the mount.
can the godox trigger work with the neewer?
No
It's really too bad you have to use the Neewer trigger. I've already got flashpoint triggers and flashes so this is a no go sadly.
The Neewer trigger is a $40 add-on when purchased with a Q4.
@@carterextreme758 still doesn't solve it not working with my flashpoint/godox flashes.
Funny, opening
I honestly do not like the design of this new flash it seems like they’re going back in time when people have box cars 0:53
Agreed. The shape to me resembles an antique camera, back when everything was oversized.
requires a Neewer flash trigger....that sucks.
4 ad100 will be way more expensive than I Q4
I stopped using my AD600S for the Neewer Q3 strobes! Really no difference imo. Anyone want to buy three AD600s lol
"Bowel Movement" 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😁😁😁😅😅
Good, powerful, but... HUGE. Leave it in studio :)
That is going in your travel Bag ? NO NO NO !
why why why
@@MarkusPix 5 pounds and a very odd shape ? Small sleek and powerful for portable light ! That is a studio light ! Stay with the Godox 600 in house ! Led's are getting RGB color, so flash is an old tech now ! Sensor sensitivity is becoming less of an issue ! No noise at high ISO 3,200 no problem even on a 4 year old camera ! All the Best !
😂 full disclosure 😂😂😂😂😂
🤣😂😂 not!!
Love your videos and reviews Markus. Are you planning to review the new Magmod XL products? Excited to see your review on them.
Ugh way too big
