My Week with the 2022 Lexus RC F Fuji Speedway Edition

- I spend a week with the very rare 2022 Lexus RC F Fuji Speedway Edition to see what it's like to live with. With only 50 cars being made for this year, value or any other judgements are irrelevant but for what it's worth, this car's $106,000 price tag is hard to justify with the more exotic LC 500 available for the same money, along with many other great sports cars. For the diehard RC F fan though, it's the ultimate RC F that turns heads and get compliments everywhere it goes in this Electric Blue semi-matte paint. What do you think about the RC F Fuji Speedway Edition? Huge thanks to Lexus for providing this vehicle to review!

4 years since I bought mine and still love it. Still can't get over it. Wrote this review while I was sitting in my car waiting lol. It's all about emotions, feel and reliability. It's a land cruiser of cars.
I legit met the guy that owns 1/50 at a car show last weekend. Badge on the inside of the drivers door was 1/50….pretty cool
It's a cool car but the Fuji speedway pricetag is a joke... just get the LC at that point.
And a camaro ss is just as fast😂
@@thanosianthemadtitanic fair point, but a Camaro is still entry level; it has a poverty class interior and poor driving visibility while also being extremely common- everyone and their mom owns a mustang and a camaro. People with a little more dispensable income don't want the same meal everyone is having. Speed isn't a defining metric; there's always a faster car. Interior and exterior quality as well as uniqueness are equally as important. Horsepower much over 400 can be situationally fun but is mostly irrelevant for adults who know they won't be driving at the limit the overwhelming majority of the time. Does the car look good inside and out? Does it sound good? Is it fast? Yes is the answer to all of those questions here.
🇺🇸 NOOO! Get both. LC is a Cruiser. RC F is a bruiser. Both a bargain at $110k.
@@thanosianthemadtitanic SS ...
2 different cars Sly... The LC is really a luxury GT car, with conservative gearing and a much softer suspension and steering feel. It weighs over 500 lbs more than a TE/Fuji, which is lighter, stiffer, and faster with a more aggressive transmission, steering feel, carbon ceramic brakes, and functional aero that makes it the best handling F model available from Lexus today. It's unfortunate that Lexus only imported 50 for North America this model year. Being an owner I always try to help educate and debunk the skeptics who haven't experienced the Fuji Speedway Edition, and think its just a regular overpriced RC F with a bunch of carbon on it. It's certainly not perfect and there are many other cars in the same category that are faster or cheaper. But it certainly checks off a lot of boxes for me, and is a blast to drive every single time.
These track edition / Fuji Edition models..look INCREDIBLE.
You can see why your spending this much money. The car is like art on wheels I could stare at it all day.
I almost ordered one of these. I ordered my 22 LC coupe instead. No regrets.
My MSRP was 106,895 which was what i paid.
I dont track my cars i track my motos so i didnt feel the need for my only car to be a "track" car. LOL its dumb enough this is my only car with 3 other motos in the garage. Who said i was practical?
I feel the RC F is a great car no doubt but it's definitely overpriced for what it offers in 2022. LC500 is a better buy than the RC F at 100k.
For a top end and highway pull the LC is definitely better because the 10 speed
Great choice 👍
You did choose the better daily option also not that far on the performance
Hi Matt, even though the Lexus RCF isn't mass produced I love the way Lexus did a great great job.
Yeah, true. However, RCF TE is the highest performing Lexus one could buy with this engine. There is a guy in Germany who laps his RCF TE in 7:50 with traffic. LC500 for the same price, but Matt fails to mention, while it is much more luxurious and comfortable, it is 410 lbs heavier (570 lbs heavier than the RCF TE) and also considerably softer, much bigger and complaint for the streets. RCF offers a more sportier experience. I own an '16 RCF CF/TVD that had an MSRP of $91K. A comparably equipped M4 is actually significantly more expensive. On my Dragy runs, I get high-11s for the 1/4 mile (at sea level) with a couple of bolt-on mods and it is totally worth the price because it combines performance, luxury, visceral experience, quality/reliability and practicality better than any other Lexus.
Beautiful car you reviewing matt
Let's not forget one major factor the RCF has over the supra though, it sounds way better, and as a daily driver that's worth a lot. Not to mention much more practical, reliable and a great sound system. It all adds up...
Thanks Matt. Great review. However, I am trading in my RC350 AWD for that exact car (RCF TE 2022 Blue) and I am drunk and tired of reviewers comparing this car with anything German. My wife and I have owned Toyota/Lexus for 20 years and crazy reliable and low, low maintenance. I will put these up to any brand in the world!!! LEXUS For Life!!....To hell with 0-60 or 1/4mile stats!!!
RCF is fast enough faster than 95% of cars in the street plus sport, luxury, reliability 😊
Amazing looking car sounds absolutely heavenly
I’ve been waiting on the IS 500. I sold my 2019 Bullitt mustang. Drove it three years and made money. I really liked my Bullitt but the dealership I bought it from kept making me offers. They offered me 12k more than I paid. I didn’t think the Lexus would be so hard to get. I bought a Mazda mx5 to play in. Not mustang power but fun.Hopefully Lexus will get one.
People expect a lot from the IS500 and its disappointing for lexus fans
The same 2.9 diff
The slow 8 speed it’s actually from the original 2008 ISF
We were waiting for the 10 speed from the lc500 which is really fast
No change in the engine the same from 2014
Just go for ISF
@@mez6256 you really need to do more research before commenting. Easier said than done. IS500 has more power with retuned faster 8 speed. Also it has better tech than ISF. You want him to go back and downgrade to 10-year old infotainment without apple car play? The 10 speed is great, yes, but it only fits Lexus’s newer global platform. Not to mention 2014 ISF with mint condition is difficult to find. 😂
@@ryanl.1362 - Amen. 👏🏽
@@ryanl.1362 2015** F cars
The 2008 ISF lock the torque converter to shift faster the IS500 can’t do that as far as I know
and he is searching for performance
He can find an ISF for 35k super clean one
So half of the price for a new IS500
Any way Lexus can do better a 500hp
IS500 with 10 speed just imagine that
( the 10 speed is smaller than the 8 speed and lighter)
What mileage did te bulit have ? Using car for 3 years and selling it 12k above the price you bought it for is a dream most people wont have
LcF would be awesome, I hope is in the works.
5:42 I average 20.2 mpg in the LC. Of course it goes down to 15 if your hammering the entire tank. Or in eco highway cruising it can be goosed to get 39mpg! That was a challenge, and 100% highway.
Wow that’s impressive!
🇺🇸 RC F in my dream garage floor sure!
Forgot this existed. I guess that shows how much I value Lexus.
Camaro SS 1LE is $47,000 and just as fast in a straight line while being significantly faster around the track. The Mach 1, M2, M4, Supra, and even the Challenger also offer better value propositions. I am happy that the RCF exists, shitty pricing be damned.
but which one is the most reliable? lexus of course
An SS 1LE isn’t beating this on a track
Yup and all other high school kids own one 😅
What are you smoking? Put a supercharger in this and it will smoke a Hellcat.
Regular RCF comes standard with Torsen LSD in the base RCF. The TVD is part of an upgraded carbon fiber performance package, which has carbon fiber and TVD with slightly stiffer rear springs. So, correction that TVD comes standard in RCF. It is a $11,000 option package. There is also misinformation of LC500 vs RCF. While LC500 is more luxurious and bespoke, RCF checks far more boxes. RCF is much lighter, tighter, stiffer, smaller and also with less weight, faster. LC500 is a GT car for long distances. It is 400+ lbs heavier (almost 570 lbs heavier than the RCF TE), much bigger and definitely a lot softer in any trim so no, it does not give everything the RCF does. RCF competes in a different space than LC500 and have different target buyers. I could see the argument that RCF is not focused enough. It is trying to be too many things at the same time. Neither a dedicated track car nor a comfortable cruiser like the LC500 and I totally agree. However, that is the charm of owning this car that it does so many things so well.
I am glad Lexus made this edition, it shows they do care about the racing community. However…the road noise in the video and the bobble-heading from the overly stiffened suspension is at EGADS level! I have the same PS4S tires and the inside of my cabin is serene, no matter the speed. Beautiful car, I’ve seen it person several times, but I don’t see it as a daily. I think the IS 500 is a better overall choice if folks can get their hands on one. Nice review as always!
Thanks, and congrats on managing to get an IS500!
@@MattMaranMotoring Thank you! It was a year of searching, the planets aligned and I was blessed with one at MSRP. Some folks have had issues, but everything has been awesome for me thus far. The car is worth every penny, definitely a keeper!
I'm a big Lexus fan. I'm still trying to work out getting an IS500. An LC is just a dream. But the price for this Fuji is just too large an ask. Even if my requirement was a great sound and a V8, there are other choices out there costing a lot less. But I do very much like the car.
I agree, and good luck getting an IS500!
Genesis G80 has a great sounding and peppy V8 and can be found pre-owned at a great price. They're rare but can still be found. Sure, it's a boat of a car, but still agile and fast considering its size and weight.
The real Supra.
$106k for that?! Give me a A90 Supra, G80/F82 M3, or even a used GTR for that money.
62k for the base
5:20 It is a GEM of an engine. It can be soft and quiet or if I'm angry or excited ill leave it in manual and run around with the RPMs WHAILING. If I'm mad it usually snaps me out of it with giggles.
And the LC sounds better than the RCF. The exhaust tuning just sounds that much better in and outside of the LC on throttle. Ive not heard the IS500 so i cant comment on that note.
Very nice ride. Thanks Matt for your great review.
Thanks for watching David!
Very cool. Been wanting too see some attention paid to this under appreciated but if Japanese luxury sport. 🎉
I average 20 mpg on my 2011 ISF
How do they make coupes that heavy I don't even understand
They want to cut cost so they use the is350 and Is350c chassis
Imagine if it was lighter 😢
I called my dealer about a is500 they told me 10k over msrp, cause everyone is doing it, I gave up.
Fuck dealerships
The car will only shift fastest at full tilt
With near instant response
Nice car
Super cool
You have to be a diehard freak to pay that much for this car. I'm a Lexus fan but I'm not crazy about the looks. I would get a Supra, ZL1, or C8 over this.
I just want them to make enough IS500s so you can actually buy one new without having to suck anything.
Matt when are you gonna do a review on the Giulia Quadrifoglio!?
Hopefully someday. I missed out on it when it was in the press fleet several years ago. I have a few owners that have offered theirs but they're all far drives from me.
I just recently got one. If you were out in Cali I would definitely let you have it for like a week. Great review btw Matt.
@@MattMaranMotoring Hopefully you can do a review on it soon. Keep up the good work!
Rcf is such a great car made by lexus, just wish they were cheaper. Can get supercars for that 100k price or lc500. Theres just soo many better cars nowadays for cheaper price. Still love the rcf though.
Buy used about $75k or regular RCF $35k 😊
Who would be dumb enough to buy this for $100k over a LC? 🤣
I was happy I got to drive a pretty rare RCF 10th anniv. edition at the dealership I worked.
3 completely different cars. The LC is fun to drive but isn't in the same category as the Fuji. The weight and turn in feel makes the LC slower and not as responsive. You feel the weight over those front wheels on a road course. The rare 10th Anniversary edition wasn't any better than any other regular RC F as far as handling and feel since 2015. In 2020, with the new "facelift", Lexus made improvements to the final drive ratio, and for the TE/Fuji shaved off close to 200 lbs, added carbon ceramic brakes and functional aero. The Fuji is the best handling F model I have driven, on and off the track, and I have driven them all (except the mighty LFA). It's really too bad Lexus doesn't offer the Fuji as a "trim" for anyone to experience. Only 50 produced for North America this year and I own #21. I have given plenty of rides to many Lexus enthusiasts who were very skeptical about price, performance, and feel. But they all say the same thing after... worth every penny.
Lexus can’t sell their cars because every Lexus dealership is charging 20k dealer markup w😂
Yeah that’s not true. Just go to a lot or three and you’ll see very low inventory. Lexus vehicles are spoken for before they’ve made it to our shores. I don’t know who is paying $20K over, but several people have!
Nice car but it would have been better if it had a better transmission
$106k what a joke. Cars like this and priced like this is why Lexus is struggling to sells these. This is no $106k car, it’s worth $70k at best.
I think $80K is fair.
$67k base price for a normal rc f.
@@adamblomberg My “base” RC-F MSRP was $76K. 65K RCF is a myth. They didn’t make any.
@@salimrandall Looks like that might be the case here in Europe too. I wonder if it’s better in Japan?
Well considering people are paying $90k+ for piece of shit Cadillacs. It's not bad.
Matt you call it a motor while I would call it an engine. What gives?
They're usually interchangeable in my opinion.
You have to be huge Lexus nut to buy one of those or even an RCF, they're super old , the performance isn't there and you can buy the same engine in an equally old and dated is500. A Mustang GT pp2, Or Camaro Ss 1le will make lightwork of one of these not to mention the European cars. It's really time to take these out to pasture. The styling looks really good but if you're buying a track edition for the styling you're missing the point anyway and that sums up Lexus performance
First
The mach 1 is a better car at half the msrp 😂🤷♂️
The Mach1 with handling package would be better than this. Just saw a loaded custom ordered Mach1 at my Ford dealer in grabber blue. I told them if the buyer backs out I’ll buy it but they are taking delivery. MSRP was $68k.
The mach1 won’t look as good as a Lexus rcf tho and not as rare as a rcf either too
@@PhiNguyen-kb2lm The RCF doesn’t have an option for a manual transmission and it’s grille is ugly. I’m taking the Mach1 if I had to choose. Both are overpriced so I wouldn’t buy either.
@@CarStory that’s your opinion to me I think it’s worth every single dollar and lexus about to stop making v8 so these cars prices going up on value while them mach1 lose its value lol
@@PhiNguyen-kb2lm i do think the lexus will hold better value long term but its not a muscle car like the mach1.
Bought a 2015 rc f in Dec I adore her my fav car it’s just so gorgeous and fun and that motor is just insane ik there r bigger better cars but she’s mine
Hell yeah
I have a 2015 RCF. No way can I even defend this price tag, unless you feel that this could become a collectors car one day. For over 100k the car needs a supercharger.
Absolutely not, then you just buy an American car. This is so much cooler than the bs from mercedes and bmw. Sure the M5 is faster but it's all turbos and downsizing. Fuel economy is going to be comparable anyway, and you won't have a car that constantly breaks down.
@@adamblomberg you’re spending over 100k to get gapped by mustangs.. so what if the car looks cool? It needs more power to justify its price tag.
@@DoctorGaga87 You don't have to buy the Fuji edition. Base model starts at $67k which is acceptable, but Lexus could probably squeeze out around 50 to 85 more hp without making increasing displacement or compromising reliability or cost too much. What I really think they should do is make it much lighter, but that's hard with all the modern regulations. As it is, it's a special car because it's naturally aspirated and we don't need yet another forced induction sports car. The sound is just fantastic, same with the lc500.
