Instruments get in the way of the liquidity of the human voice

Dav Van Ronk's version was always my favorite, but this is a second first.

So, Molly on the right in singing lead. And I reckon Alexandra (middle) is most of the time a 5th above. I don't really know what Amelia is doing. An octave below and wometimes picking up different intervals? Any good ears out there? :)

I'm sorry that I disagree with the rest of comments, but they are out of tune most of the time.

I think maybe you are not familiar with the many different ways a song can be approached to sing. There is not only one way to harmonize. There are many, and some are historic and not generally understood by modern people. This is obviously an earlier style of harmonizing, which is more appropriate for how old this song is.

@@Sunshine-zm1fx I agree with you, there are many ways to harmonize a song; and this way is obviously very unique, and difficult to stay in tune. But anyway, I believe they are out of tune, specially the soprano voice.

Personally I don't hear them out of tune. Maybe my ear isn't as sensitive as yours. Do you find the song unpleasant overall?

I believe I hear what you're talking about, but I kind of like it anyway? It lends this very mournful and kind of broken sound that I find really appropriate for this song. Its faults kind of speak to me more than a perfect version of this song does.

@@Captain_Pink Yes, the mournful sound and out of tune moments could be OK if there is only one singer; but not when several voices harmonize together, IMO.
