You sir have just given me the information I have been looking for... I was about to give up on Unreal because I couldn't keep on top of the performance. Thank you so much I can once again love Unreal Engine! I knew there was a method or logic to the problems I was getting and its all down to managing those textures.

Glad I could help! But next time don't suffer in silence. Post on the forums. A lot of Epic employees like myself are on there. And the other users are incredibly helpful. Good luck!

Thank you for this great look into Textures and how they can easily fly under the radar and eat up GPU memory. This was very enlightening, thanks for sharing your expertise! Cheers

so should i set all my textures to default compresion? it seems the best by far

It's really good and default for a reason. But if you have room on your GPU for less compression there isn't anything wrong with it. Use all the room you can to get the best-looking image. I normally set everything to the default and then go see what are the more hero objects and then consider raising the roughness/normal maps if they are looking a bit soft.
