Made my first bowdrill fire today, after failing so many times it was an unbelievable sense of accomplishment!

There's also an older dude on tictok that uses char and how to make char out of old clothes. Clothes that are holey and are beyond donation. 😅✋️
What you can do if you are stuck in the wild unexpectedly and you dont have string, you could take the shoelace off of your shoe and use it as a string to build the bow

the most critical thing that was not explained is the importance of using the correct woods for this method...without this information you could spend your life trying to start a fire this way to no effect..the explanation of the technique was great though

I went to wilderness in Utah for a few months. My fastest bow drill fire was 14 seconds -from standing to getting a coal then putting it into the nest and blowing to flame

This was a little bit miss leading. The most important part is the top piece that holds the top of the spindle in place. He had a rock for that part.. I would love to have seen the hole in the rock in detail.
