In 1990, I put on my blue skirt suit with the massive shoulder pads and walked (in heels) to my job on Wall Street while I listened to "Let the River Flow" from the movie "Working Girl" on my Walkman and I felt like a million bucks. Oh to be young again!

My mother was a combination of Lauren Bacall and Mary Tyler Moore and man could she dress! The 60's and 70's glamour....youve brought it all back to me. Thank you Nickol for helping me get out of my 60 year old lady clothes. And for bringing my mother back to me. I lost her in 2008 and I miss her so much. Now, when I get dressed up to go out, i feet like my old self again. Love your inspiration!

2024, I'm all about curating my wardrobe to reflect my beautiful, maturing self, and unique style. I'm in the process of discovering my truth with my wardrobe as I've worked corporate downtown for 20+ years, and now I permanently work corporate from home and don't go out much anymore. I'm lost in my wardrobe revamp, honestly. How do I look professional from the waist up for zoom meetings, be comfortable at home, and still casual enough to run to the grocery store or hair hairstylist after work but still exude my statement-making, uniqueness?? HELP!! Hahaha😆
I'd love to see you create more fashion videos that's business outside of the boardroom (business-casual? idk), statement making but still versatile, and still be comfortable at home. Could this possibly be a new and trending fashion category, all-in-one style, for mature women like me?

In the 1930s Elsa Schiaparelli designed a lobster dress and jewelry. Over the years I've seen some examples of her lobster brooches and plenty of copies. It's always interesting to watch how designers find inspiration from the past--even if it's a big lobster! Thank you for this video.
Love the Kitten heels! I used to wear stilettos but haven’t been able to do that for a while now. Lower heels are so much more comfortable and even safer for me now.
I started doing consignment a few years ago and love it. It becomes such a great hobby. I collect St John knits particularly because I love how they carry the colors forward year after year. I can buy a 2020 pant and know it will look fabulous with a 1997 jacket.
I've started doing consignment, too, because Nikol inspired me to do so. I've gotten some great finds, but find that some items smell horribly on Febreeze. Dry cleaning doesn't seem to help.
Lobster dress reminds me of a dress made for Wallis Simpson in Metropolitan Museum museum exhibit a few years ago. Might have been by Oleg Cassini. Love prep look- probably not with bikini bottoms as in picture!! 😅

I love St. John too. I have a long sleeve black knit jacket that was actually my Granny’s… she was a classic dresser from whom I learned to have a few quality basics I could switch around to make different outfits as Nikole talks about.
Interesting. I don't follow trends. Why would I want to look like someone else? I wear & use what I want, when & where I want.

I was just having this discussion. Why did different types of jeans come and go out of STYLE. For heaven's sake. Wear whatever style looks best on your body and that make you feel happy. Why do we fall for the nonsense of things going in and out?

OMG I remember Outback Red! I loved it. My friend got a job at The Limited and we had a discount. I think you're on point with quiet luxury and I think it'll be a lasting trend, because in my opinion, once you ditch logos, they look really overplayed from then on.
I just agree 100 percent on your observations. I will add that the no pants trend is just ridiculous in my opinion. I also wanted to add here that you have made such a difference in my life. I love all the new trends except sheer layering, big handbags, and girlcore. Love preppy, quiet luxury, and the basics. That’s why I follow you. I would love to know how to find consignment clothes. Not sure I have the budget for it. But maybe on a small scale. Any advice?

I love the prep school and the classic minimalist trends ! I dress like that currently, cricket sweaters with plaid skirts are my favorite looks. That and a white, crisp, button down with black jeans. You can dress up or down. 😊❤

I think a more indepth video on buying consignment would be interesting. Do you scout for things online or go into consignment shops? I don't know if I would have the patience for it. Patience is not my middle name. 😂
I’m a lover of sling back and pumps with the kitten heel . My everyday style is very basic , simple “ Grandma “ cause I am a very involved grandma - baseball , soccer , cheer , band , recitals and school pickup . So yep , jeans - tshirts - sweat suits - tennis shoes and school / team spirit attire . Oh , when I have the opportunity, I love classic , timeless suits , bulky jewelry and kitten heels . Love me a straight , below the knee dress , pearls and jeans with a blazer and boots . Love watching you and your many beautiful styles . Girl you ROCK . Oh , almost forgot , I too love second hand shopping . Nashville , TN has some wonderful shops and you would be surprised what you can find at Goodwill in the ritzy neighborhoods 😁

Nikol, my mom used to send her clothes to consignment shops, when she’d worn them a few times!! Needless to say, I wish we had them in my city. Wearing classic and prep has always been my style. I’m losing weight to be able to wear those again.

So exciting, I’m with you. Ive always loved the prep school style, Ralph Lauren style layering, minimalistic and I love to buy consignment 90% of my wardrobe is previously owned. Glad to know I will be in style again!!
Love the honesty about what doesn't really translate to office work or low key parties. Love a minimalist basic look how to pull it off to have a more adventurous 80s rocker / hipster grunge feel is a lingering question.

I love, love, love a minimalist look paired with an XL bag. Isn’t it wonderful that we’re all different? PS I carry the same things in an XL bag that I do in a small or medium one. Sometimes (often) I put an insert into the XL bag but what I carry doesn’t change.

Kitten heels!!!!! Yes!!!!!! I have a pair I bought over 10 years ago that I’ve been waiting to wear again! I was wondering when they were going to be trendy again.
Also….Thom Brown’s show this past fall was allllllllllll nautical and all done in grey and white tones. It’s amazing to watch and I loooooooove how he made playful and classic mix.

I agree with all your comments; I especially appreciate your ability to separate runway (fashion concept) from real life wearability -- many people miss that distinction when commenting on runway fashion. (Women who are on the entertainment industry red carpets need to be especially cognizant of that difference.)
No jellyfish or lobster jewelry for me. Classic ALL the way. My mother was SO responsible for showing me early in life what I would want in my closet always. Blacks slacks, white button down and navy blazer still a part of my wardrobe to this day. She was so smart!

I’m loving the prep trend! I saw the trend coming little by little in 23’ and now it’s just exploded. I also love the feminine trends. I’m a big lace and flower accents kinda gal without over doing it. Just a touch here and there to add my own style. I love a pretty flower necklace and anything that ties around the neck. Also a skinny silk bow. I love your style so much and you are right up there with the fashion icons. I would love to begin my own consignment journey. I actually loved that lobster necklace with the dress. Mind you, I couldn't pull off that look. I'm too short and heavy and I'd look like a cheesy garlic biscuit covered in dinner from Red Lobster. I do, however, have a sparkly shrimp pin from the 1960/70s that I occasionally wear on a jeans jacket or blazer. That quenches my thirst for crustacean jewelry.
Thank you for brining this information to those of us that don’t know where to go for fashion. I like quiet luxury and always have. I have pieces in my closet that are many years old that seem to continue. I am exploring second hand fashion. I often lose patience and become more of a buyer rather than a shopper. I do love to be individual in my attire. I am definitely NOT a girl core type. I am totally comfortable in the prep style. I love the jacket, jeans, button downs and loafers. I wanted to be Caroline Bisset back in the day. Such an easy look. Back in the 90’s when I was first working my way up the ladder, power dressing was my thing. Nikol I'm loving so many of these trends in 2024. I've always gravitated toward classic pieces that can be mixed and matched throughout your wardrobe. Investment pieces are worth their weight in gold. I spent 20 years in the boardroom and never shied away from power dressing. I worked in a "mans world", so power dressing was a necessity for women to be taken seriously. It was a very helpful tool that served me well throughout my career. Now that I've been retired for so many years, I do gravitate towards a more casual look, but still enjoy looking my best (unless I'm steeling away a pj day! lol). Love your channel, your content and you! You're always giving us great advice and I've learned so much from watching your videos. One of the areas that concerns me as I age, is thinning hair. You have the most gorgeous locks, I'm sure this is an area that you don't worry about much. But, for most mature women, this does get concerning. Are there any tried and true remedies that you could recommend? If so, I'd sure love to hear about them. Thanks so much for always helping us look and feel beautiful!

Love your channel! I enjoy nice tailored look in pants and sweater options for winter dressing. I don't like the XL bags, though I had an original Coach Duffle bag from the 80's, which my Mom gifted me. I loved that purse so much, still have it. I even took 3 Cairn terrier pups in that bag with a hot water bottle to the veterinarian for a check up. I decided to gift myself for Christmas the Coach Duffle 16, which is smaller than the OG, in hunter green, which I wear cross body...it reminds me of my Mom!

I've always loved kitten heels. I still have a low boot with kitten heels from the 90s.
I bought my first purchase from Poshmark! Patent, Croc embossed, Brown & black pumps by Sofft. Like New. Comfortable and I love them! Paid $33 and that includes shipping and tax. Can't wait for my next find!
Consignment all the way. So identified with it. Also the kitten heel has become one of my favorite. Who knew! I used to love high heels but I guess it’s because of what you mentioned. With age we start picking comfort over fashion

😊 I love a big bag! Being heavy, my wobbly walk is probably more silly. I can't be a size 6 in a week. So I have to hold my head up, do the best I can until I can get a body that hurt everywhere and look silly.

I have a budget, so I basically just work with what I have. No designer clothes for me! Kitten heels, the 90’s, basic, oversized bag (was gifted to me:) , and my favorite leather pieces…. (like my black blazer, accessories, …)love all those. I actually bought a jumpsuit, on clearance… and the girly trend I work with too. I’m almost certain we have a vintage dress in the garage with shoulder pads. I’ll have to dress that one up. Thanks! Love kitten heels! My feet won't tolerate high heels any more so I'm always on the lookout for stylish shoes that are also comfortable.

I love the consignment pieces as well. I wish these outlets, i.e. the Real Real could verify where the items originate. I hate to buy beautiful pieces from a store that has been a victim of "smash and grab" like Nordstroms has. I also love the collegiate, sequins and kitten heels. Great video. Thank you.

I have a couple of vintage goldfish brooches that are "tremblers" or "wigglers" by Trifari. Their bellies are poured resin in opalescent pink; they are a matched pair (mom and baby) that I bought at two different estate sales years apart. So excited to have these! I wear them on the lapel of a denim jacket or an ultrasuede cape, and I always get compliments. So different, and probably the only "ocean life" - or close to it - I'd ever wear. Love this video - it would be fun if you could split it up into a series, with just a couple of each style trend in each episode, to give us more looks and labels within each one. Such fun! Hi Nikol, Kitten heels- Yes! Audrey Hepburn also wore kitten heels probably made just for her… I used to put my new kitten heels on my dashboard so I could admire them while driving home from work.
Regarding buying only consignment, reminds of times when I’d see a dress or blouse somebody was wearing and when I would complement them on it or ask if I could ask where they got, they always said, oh I got this years ago…or I’ve had this a really long time. Good pieces always look right !

I love your consignment passion. I don’t have that.. . For me I’m just going super classic, except for loafers, which I’ve never felt comfortable with. I’ve also realized I really prefer creams and warm whites in clothing and eyeshadows that are light and a little sparkly. I used to be 1000 times more active socially and now my life is much more simple and relaxed, so I need to put together a wardrobe that is what I would call grocery store chic😂

Can you do a video on which consignment websites you use? If you have can you direct me to that video. I live in a small town in northern Ontario Canada and don't have great shopping options, but I still like to look put together when I go out. So cool that preppy is back( if it ever left). FYI, I just bought the Brooks Brothers Loro Piana blazer so I'm half way there, lol, since I saw you in it.
Consignment and resale! Not only for my wardrobe but my home. Most of my closet is resale purchases.
Mostly I agree.
The are just two topics for me:
1. Big bags are not very elegant and, in fact, not always practical, as you need to dive into them searching a particular item. But they look fine to me with sporty outfits. I don't mean gym suits but more casual, comfortable style, mostly oversize outfits.
2. Kitty heals - no for me. I love ballerinas with more stable rectangular heals or flat but not those. They just don't look good. It's just you can't decide what to put on - high heals or flats, so you've picked "flattened" version of the first one.

I miss The Limited. I have classic pants and jackets that are over 20 years old that are still amazing. Good pairs of jeans with every style leg opening are important. Style for right now is snowpants and a big coat. It just snowed over 20 inches! 😂
