Drury is the goat. Sky have played an absolute blinder getting him in
Martin Tyler in his prime (90s - 2012) is still the goat. Especially paired with Andy Gray.
He just went on too long and got too old to be as exuberant as he was.
Drury can be a bit over the top and almost sounds scripted at times whereas Tyler felt natural. Still the best at the minute though.

It's such a pleasure to see such a humble and kind mannered man reach what is essentially the peak of his profession in his respective country. Replacing Martin Tyler is an honour that I am absolutely certain he will do justice.
Tyler was so overrated. Only reason people still have some respect for him is because of how long he's been in the business, not because he was good. Matching his quality would be cakewalk for Drury.

Maybe Peter doesn't know, but here in Argentina, days after the coronation, his commentary on that moment was reposted in every social network. Peter was brilliant in capturing the feeling of that achievement from Messi, and it was emotional for all of us to hear it again and again.

As a South African I can tell you Peter painted the picture perfectly in this interview.. when the goal was scored "literally" the whole township screamed we all ran to the a fan part about 15 km away ... It felt like we only ran a 100m the atmosphere in the streets in the cbd's In that month south Africans were really united

All those other players had one or two traits in them over the years. But none of them had the quality of a goals-scoring forward and a playmaking midfielder combined with the kind of consistency he's had. I'd bet my whole life on it. Never ever would another player come close to him. He's a gift from the gods. Peter Drury is the voice of football.
I've only been back into the sport for a couple years now, but I could listen to Peter Drury talk about his calls all day long! The man is a legend, and when he decides to hang it up, he'll be listed as one of, if not the greatest commentator of all time! Right up there with Martin Tyler, Jon Champion, and for my money, both Derek Rae and Ally McCoist because of how much their commentary on the FIFA video games meant to me as a youth.
