My feelings exactly. I've never been a huge Bon Jovi fan. I've always looked at them as a talented, hard working band who learned early in the game that their bread and butter was going to be young chicks who were getting into Rock… and young dudes who were getting into chicks, who were getting into Rock. Most dudes who wanted to impress a wanna-be rocker chick knew that blasting Ozzy and talking about the intricacies of a Randy Rhoads solo was a surefire way NOT to get a second date with her. Lots of girls were looking for a pretty-boy band to swoon over. Van Halen with David Lee Roth was a little too dangerous for many of them and Iron Maiden was too heavy (both musically and lyrically). I've always preferred my rock a little harder and less "poppy"... BUT... I've got to give credit where it's due. This song sets a mood and a feeling that hits the spot.

Interestingly enough, Wanted Dead or Alive was requested by Emilio Estevez to be on the soundtrack for the film but Jon Bon Jovi declined since he thought the lyrics didn't match with the film. Instead he wrote Blaze of Glory, according to Kiefer Sutherland, Jon came to the set when the actors were eating hamburgers and started to write something on a napkin as they were talking about the film. Sutherland claims that within six minutes Jon had written Blaze of Glory which went on to be hit single as if it were the easiest thing in the world.

The song's title pays homage to Jon's admiration for Old West heroes, and how he identifies with them as being hated and loved at the same time ("wanted dead or alive", so to speak). During an interview on Inside the Actors Studio, Jon said he got the inspiration for the song early one morning when he could not sleep while riding in a tour bus. The "lifestyle of every rock band" was similar to that of outlaws in that each was, "a young band of thieves, riding into town, stealing the money, the girls, and the booze before the sun came up."

When it got to the chorus “...I’m wanted...dead or alive” George recognized it and wondered where he’d heard it. If you’ve ever seen the hit Discovery Channel show Deadliest Catch, even in passing, they use it as the theme song. Many people who don’t know Bon Jovi, know this song from there.

This is truly a song that transcends the artist. The ultimate definition of a crossover hit. It does not matter who you are, or if anyone in the room even likes Bon Jovi, if this song is put on, they tell you to turn it up. It's just a well written, amazingly performed song.

I was a Bon Jovi fan from the Runaway album and saw every concert through the 80's multiple times. They put on a great show and the music was amazing. The music just feels good and even the stuff they are making today still is great. I am glad my kids love them and my grandkids like Bon Jovi I am hoping maybe to be able in a few years to be able to a three-generation Bon Jovi concert trip. It should be a blast!!
