- This soft spoken ASMR video is a biography of Queen Marie Antoinette d'Autriche, born in 1755 and executed in 1793. From her birth in Vienna to her death in Paris, I invite you to follow the fancy and tragic life of the last queen of the French Ancien Régime.

My frenglish and denglish is not perfect at all. In German and in french you can say something like that. Maybe "what a good idea" would be appropriate ? ^^

Just came across this video and I enjoyed it.
I also realized the similarities between Marie Antoinette and Empress Alexandra of Russia, both husbands weren't taught properly on how to rule and both succeeded the throne way before anyone thought they would. Both women were disliked for being foreign brides even being called spies by their people, their favor declined further when they couldn't produce a male heir when needed, they both share the same dislike of their court feeling that the protocol was too much for them. Finally because of their inexperience both families payed with their lives.
I actually see the similarities of Queen Marie Antoinette and Empress Alexandra of Russia too. Nice noting the similarities!

Marie Antoinette is one of my heroines of history! I absolutely love her. She was just a child when she came to France to become the Dauphine.She didn't know any better. Her style and taste were second to none. As you can see I am enchanted with the life of Marie Antoinette! Thank you for sharing this time of history with us. This is a favorite of mine. 😊❤️

This is true! I've never done any serious research on my ancestors but have always been interested in learning about them
Her hairdresser was called Leonard he wasn't an official member of court so he had to dress the Queens hair in private. did you know that behind that door she escaped through is a little staircase going down a floor which leads to the Salle du Bain which was Marie Antoinettes bathroom. She also has a cabinet on the other door on the right side of her bed which has her library but Marie Antoinette wasn't fond of reading and barely used it. Also in there is her boudoir which was a place where she would have spent slot of time after she gave to her children, Louis Charles, Marie Therese and Louis Philippe, Louis Philippe died in later years and his body was laid out in the Grand Trianon which was Louis XIVs country house in the grounds of Versailles. There is also another cabinet in Marie Antoinettes quarters at the palace which is the Gold Cabinet decorated with Austrian design, Louis XVI did this after the birth of the Dauphin.

this was a neat video! thanks for doing the research and teaching everyone about who Marie Antoinette was and what happened to her.
I wanted to comment on her impulsiveness, lack of foresight, frivolous spending, etc. and that's this - human brains are not fully developed until around 21-23 years of age. this means that those younger than 21-23 are still operating with the impulsive part of their brains and that they cannot plan correctly, often rushing into things way too fast or experience apathy over what doesn't have to do with them
so you can see, by becoming princess and then queen at such young ages, she was being set up for failure - just as many other young people with power in that time. handling a kingdom in your teenage years is not impossible, but it's highly unlikely she would have done a good job until 3 or 4 years after the fact
Her life was so tragic and messed up, and it wasn't even all her own fault :/ Being raised like she was and being forced to marry someone she didn't know... it's awful!

Yes. It is very sad. And what was terribly terribly sad is that Marie Antoinette wasn't even the first choice for King Louis XVI. She was only promised to Louis XVI because some of her older sisters passed away from illness.

Fantastic, I have always been interested in the history of Marie Antoinette. Can you recommend any films about her life. I saw one with Kirsten Dunst, but it was horrid -a rather disrespectful rendition in my opinion. I would like to see a film that seriously tells the story.
+JVROSS25 Look up the documentary about Marie Antoinette here on CZcams. I believe it's in 10 or 12 10 minute parts, but it is a great documentary all the same. It goes from before her marriage all the way up to her death.

Always found it odd that Marie Antoinette was raised by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria in a house that sought to help those in need, yet as Queen of France she did very little to nothing to help the French people. As a Princess in Austria she was the equivalent of Princess Diana of our times, always giving and loving, but it seemed to all disappear once she was married. If only she kept up her behaviors as a Princess she could have saved the French monarchy.
So it's a good news !
Actually, Marie Antoinette did keep that up when she became queen. She just couldn't do anything politically, because she didn't have any political power as queen.

I love your videos and am a fan of history. Is there any way you would take requests? If so, I would love if you would do something about Finnish history? I'd like to get an outside perspective, since most discussions about our history are made by ourselves. I also think it would be interesting and new for the others, since Finland is rarely discussed at all. I think there is potential for a good video, which is somewhat different from main European history.

playlistnation2005 no it was only the Spanish line of the Habsburgs that went extinct (after the death of Charles V, his empire was split between 2 branches of the family).

Due to the fact that Louis-Charles, their eldest son, died from a lymph node infection that normally won't kill and then was quickly disposed of in a mass grave, some speculated that he could have escaped. His sister didn't even mourn for her brother's death until she was told that it was expected of her to do so, as if he never actually died. In fact most of his family didn't know what to believe with all of the conspiracies running amok. This is much like the tale of Anastasia Romanov of Russia, but like Anastasia, it was proven false with modern DNA testing where his doctor kept the boy's heart to be given to his family and we have ascertained that it was his actual heart. The doctors doing the autopsy also say that he was severely abused in captivity and so that could have played a role in his rapidly diminishing health as well.

I do kind of wish you'd continue your history of the French Revolution you were doing a while back. That kind of just fizzled away.
Anyway, great video as always. Actually, the relatively poor audio of the "guest" speaker in this video really highlights what a great job you've done in setting up your own. It's almost professional quality at this point.
My audio usually doesn't sound like that. Unfortunately I had some technical issues with my mic.
