Oh I’m so happy that’s how you got to find Shell I’m not sure if the kit can be purchased anymore because she is a limited edition I sometimes see the same doll for sale but not often anymore I must’ve looked for hours and hours to find her when I first started collecting ! Cx
Awww, this is so lovely! I love that you still have this sweetheart! I really do wish that I still had my first special baby... but something really horrible and traumatic for a new collector happened to her. Long story short, her paint wasn't cured properly and brushed off like fine powder until she just looked gray. I sent her to be repaired, and the artist just gave up and threw her away. I was devastated. I tried getting that sculpt again a few times, but it was never the same. By then, though, I was hooked anyway. LOL

My first doll was / is a Sophia Grace but the first kit I ever painted was Alexis by Cassie brace I have both these dolls as a permanent place in my collection ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦
In the beginning when the reborns were invented so to say, I started reborning and back then we were buying the berenguer la baby dolls and added color to them and put them on jointed bodies and weighted them. So my first reborn was one of those but I don’t have her any more. That was back in 2000

I first learned about reborns in 2002-3. My first doll was soooooo bad. He had molded hair that was grooves on his head. He was so ugly lol but I had to settle for something in my extremely low budget. About 10 years ago my best friend asked me if she could buy him from me. I said heck no, you can have him. She still has him to this day.
I got into it because my mom wanted to give her great grand babies the most beautiful dolls she could find. So I decided to make them, I had no idea what to do or how to do it, but I wanted to do it for my mom. Since I love shopping on ali express for jewelry and fabric I searched for a diy doll. They showed me a plethora of dolls. I looked at the Maddie kit and I fell in love so I ordered it, but I never knew about fakes and when she came I was so happy, she was just so small, she was only 20" so I started to search how to paint a realistic doll and then I got covid and almost died. It took me almost 2 months to recover, so while I was still sick but not out of it as much, I started to see like really bashing name calling videos about fake kits and people who buy from China etc, I was so appalled by that kind of treatment, I didn't know, I am sure that many people who come across reborns have no idea about fake or authentic kits, and now that I am an artist I do care about authentic kits, but the mistakes I made on that first Maddie I am so glad I made them on a cheap doll, because I would not want to make them on a $149 kit I now have an authentic 24 inch Maddie. I love her to the moon and back and I love her even more because I painted and rooted her, I picked her glass eyes and the color and the high quality angora hair from Poland, I gave her freckles and pierced her ears. I love shopping for her and dressing her up. I am so happy you still have your first baby :) She is beautiful.
