  • Have you ever thought about the difference between knowing and understanding?
Thinking about your work, do you just know or do you really understand it?
What are the areas of your life you know verses those you really understand?
There is a large difference between knowing and understanding and it can really affect our daily work life. Knowing is an awareness of knowledge whereas an understanding is a deeper conceptual connection with this knowledge and then being able to apply it to your life. Understanding the difference between the two can benefit your productivity and work process and minimize frustrations with those you may work with. In this GET YOUR MIND ON, I differentiate knowing and understanding and how it can best allow you to succeed.

According to me Knowing takes the higher position. Knowing refer to the state or act of having knowledge, awareness, or understanding. It covers everything about that topic. But the usage has be diluted these days to refer to only the superficial information. If I say I know it means i know it in full. I know the how, what, when, why aspects of that thing.

    Right On
I used to ‘know’ that E=MCxMC, and later I knew that E meant Energy and that MC had to do with Mass or Matter and C had something to do with speed of light or something.
Then later I learned that a square was side Ax4 or two adjacent sides times each other twice. (I was terrible at math).
After pondering or meditating on the ‘matter’ it came together like a self solving jigsaw puzzle.
Power or Energy is produced when a certain type of atom molecule is split by sending a particle into it and dividing it in two, or by squaring it suddenly causing a chain reaction of Matter and Energy producing Light and/ or Energy.
I still don’t know it all, but at least now I have a better understanding.

    Knowing is 2+2=4,
But From Why? Or Reasoning there comes the understanding of 2+2=4. Which is actually a gift to evolutionary human beings.

Why do i need to hear a concept a few times before i understand it. Even something I am totally interested in understanding and comprehending. I will have to go over it at least 3 times such as option trading or coding. I will understand a bit at the beginning but get kinda hung up on the details in the middle. Even if its spoon fed to me. Is this something to do with IQ? Is there some way I can get better at tis and is there anybody else out there who experiences this?

In the domain of Knowledge there are different types: names, facts, questions, distinctions, predictions, procedures, and the list goes on and on.
In the domain of Understanding where the knowledge type 'procedural' is the how-to instructions included in the body of knowledge that makes up the understanding.
You can view your list of understandings by listing all the words you use that end with the suffex ing. Like: Reading, writing, thinking, talking, seeing, believing, typing, tweeting, etc.
Understandings are the program code that runs all the things that you do.
Understandings consume energy (calories) when operating whereas knowledge does not require extra energy just to remain in state.
Its good to know the difference between Knowledge and Understanding.
Information is just a carrier of knowledge implemented in a language.

    Know this:
In the domain of Knowledge there are different types: names, facts, questions, distinctions, predictions, contradictions, procedures, true, false, nonsense, and the list goes on.
    Knowledge Directs, Understanding Affects.
The brain organizes knowledge into ten knowledge contexts for every issue in its knowledge library. These contexts are: Name, Authors, Purpose, Environment, Language, Configuration, Operation, Owners, Market, and Value. These are the Ten Directors that control the function of any issue. All procedural knowledge that drives understandings are stored in the Operation Director.
You can change your life my meditating on each one of the ten directors individually and doing a house cleaning on the knowledge stored there. Delete the false knowledge and install true knowledge in each of the ten directors. Edit modify and test changes to procedural knowledge in all your understandings.

Knowing is knowledge, understanding is empathy, it has more to do with a feeling of comprehension. “That you would be filled with the knowledge of His will (have knowledge of what He wants) in all wisdom (being able to apply it) and spiritual understanding (feeling how the Lord feels about it) that you may walk worth of the Lord fully pleasing Him.
A man of a calm spirit has understanding (is able to empathize)
Ex: your really angry about this and I’m not gonna blow up, cause I see why and have felt that way before

You must start the journey with desire and stillness.
Simply, you must devote yourself daily to being patient and watchful. Wait for it, and one day if you are paying attention and are watching, boom! there it is out of the blue, and you are enlightened forever.
But you must want and wait for however long it may take.

Understanding is all about knowing how the elements or parts of a topic or idea or concept and overlooking all (or nearly all) the consequences and what are the links and interrelationships to neighbouring issues - in a nutshell: understanding equals the bigger picture and how that works....Understanding lies on a level of encompassing deeper and broader perception and cognition of the relevant knowledge pieces (bits of data and or information). It´s my approach to define - generally - the deepness of understanding something vs just knowing of/about something...!0
The capability of Understanding becomes extremely important in a highly complex and unpredictable world in which we live today and this is getting tougher by the minute!
There are huge consequences for learning and education - on all levels - everywhere, all over the world.....!!
Understanding one´s knowledge and how to apply that is a key success factor in the AI-age - the age of acceleration!

I think the more accurate title would be “Perception vs Reasoning”. I think “Knowing” encompasses both information gathering and understanding, a summation of the whole activity of the mind in conceiving reality.

Albert Einstein also said, "if you can't explain it simply you don't understand it."
Your point tends to drag on and you lost me. Here's an example to help keep it simple: look up, we know the sky is blue, but do we understand why?

That quote is probably taken out of context, especially since the quality of explanations are context dependent , so too for the quality of understanding - simple explanations often don't often carry the necessary fidelity to actually make useful sense in science.
