LYRICS
The moment you arrived
they built you up
the sun was in your eyes
you couldn’t believe it
Riches all around
you’re walking
stars are on the ground
you start to believe it
every face along the boulevard
is a dreamer just like you
you looked at death in a tarot card
and you saw what you had to do
but nobody knows you now
when you’re dying in LA
And nobody owes you now
When you’re dying in LA
When you’re dying in LA
When you’re dying in LA
The power the power the power
of LA
Nights at the chateau
trapped in your sunset bungalow
you couldn’t escape it
Drink of paradise
They told you
Put your blood on ice
You’re not gonna make it
The official CZcams channel of multi-platinum rock band Panic! At The Disco. The band consists of Brendon Urie, Dan Pawlovich, Nicole Row, and Mike Naran.
Panic! At the Disco released its debut studio album ‘A Fever You Can't Sweat Out’ in 2005, which became certified double platinum in the US. Following in 2008, the band's album ‘Pretty. Odd.’ marked a significant departure from the band’s debut sound. 2011 brought the band’s 3rd album ‘Vices & Virtues’, which featured “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” and spent 10 consecutive weeks on the iTunes “Top Alternative Songs” chart. In 2013, the band released the album ‘Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!’, featuring “This Is Gospel”. Panic’s 2016 album ‘Death of a Bachelor’ spawned hits like the gold certified track "Hallelujah”. Most recently, the band released "Say Amen (Saturday Night)", the lead single from the 2018 studio album ‘Pray for the Wicked’.

Sorry I'm like 11 months late but just the whole song gives p.o vibes like 'the sun was in your eyes' is almost a perfect quote from she had the world and now I'm cryan.
I knew the ending sounded familiar. It felt like a callback to that era in a very special way. This ending easily sounds like the beginning of "When the Day Met The Night"
There is a female voice
The ending really sounds like the start to masterpiece theatre 1 by marianas trench.

I was one of those failed child actors. Had a few parts but never made it big. What I learned is that show-biz is such a soul-sucking, heartless industry and, frankly, I'm glad that I got out when I did. I got to have a (sorta) normal childhood. But... I still feel nostalgia for my time there. I feel a yearning to go back and try again. Being in the business and not being a star is like being a gambler on a never-ending losing streak. You always know, deep down, that you're not gonna make it but you still keep trying anyway. It's painful. But from the moment you leave all you want is to feel the pain again.
This song captures the life of a performer so well, it's scary. Brendon Urie is truly something special.
Whoa you just scared me being a theatre kid with big dreams and made this song 100 times deeper for me thanks
Maybe the get up and march on mentality will make ones dreams a reality.
@@qqtprr8255 thanks
I gave up my entire youth, education, etc in hopes of being famous. I worked my ass off but I was used, lied to, stolen from, taken advantage of, and spit out by the time I was 25. The entertainment industry is cruel and heartless but I am glad it didn’t make me cruel and heartless. This song never fails to bring me to tears because that part of me never died. And I know my pain is the same pain that so many dreamers have experienced. And there will always be a part of me that misses it. Being a performer isn’t a choice, it’s who you are. I’m sad to admit that I’d do it all again, at the drop of a hat, despite all the pain it’s brought me.
High hopes...

“you looked at death in a tarot card and you saw what you had to do” got me for some reason because death in tarot cards means change
*edit:* so some people said i know this because of dnp (my pfp was dan) but i have actually never seen those videos (never had interest) i just know a few tarot cards mean lmao
mack. yeah same that's my favourite line
I’m guessing you only know that bc the video dnp did😂
mack. I think that's tied to hey look ma, because that videos about being a puppet for record labels and getting into bad stuff and trying to get out of it.

Hannah Goss Im a tarot card reader... it means that you have to restart... Death is a clean start. Now, a reversed Death card could mean being stuck in one place.

I feel like this whole album is just a revelation of the cruelty of fame and riches as a celebrity, starting as an innocent dream of a child with high hopes that started to become a living nughtmare you couldn't escape from

This song reminds me of my time in high school theatre. I made friends, opened up, created memories, fell in love. Then it all fell apart. Most of my friends abandoned me, those memories I once cherished now open old wounds, and my first love shattered me without ever knowing she had that kind of influence over me.
sweetie i hope you're good now 🥺
I’m so sorry to hear that!! Try to remember all the good times and the happiness you had. It’s okay to feel hurt but understand that the wounds we carry in our hearts never heal if we don’t let them. I’m crying because:
1: I’m somewhat worried about Brendon
2: The song is freaking beautiful
Anna Miller yeah this is a beautiful song but I’m trying to figuire out the meaning and I’m worried about brendon
Anna Miller can you elaborate on why you’re worried about him? I’m worried now that I’ve read the comments, what’s happening😧
V Al it's because of the meaning of these songs. Especially that hey look ma, i made it mv,, that's why most of us are being concerned of brendon's wellbeing.
marshy rowe hey look ma I made it literally had not a single sad lyric? Why would it make you worried? I mean yes there’s this second part with him debating whether his friends are real or not, but it is not that concerning
V Al the music video is what we’re talking about
Brendon: Hey look ma, I'm dying.
Others: Hey look ma, I'm crying.
Me: *facepalm*
Here’s my idea for the music video:
It starts with a bus pulling away from a station and a young woman is seen. She starts looking around as the song starts (“the moment you arrived, they built you up”) and then she sees it: the largest billboard in LA and SHE is on it. Suddenly, the sun peaks out and she extends her arm out to shade her eyes from it (“the sun was in your eyes”). Then, she begins to realize she is finally becoming famous, and she truly has “made it” (“you couldn’t believe it”).
She then makes her way over to the Hollywood Walk of Fame (“riches all around, your walking stars are on the ground, you start to believe it”) and while she’s there, she runs into a young fan who asks for a picture with her (every face along the boulevard is a dreamer just like you”). She then realizes she has to be at the recording studio to record some of her songs (“you looked at death in a tarot card and you saw what you had to do”)
In the chorus, it cuts to Brendon playing this song on a piano and repeatedly cuts between Brendon and the young woman, who even covers Dying in LA, and every time it cuts between Brendon and the young woman, her growth is shown, as she opens for artists on tour, wins multiple awards, and is even featured on magazine covers. She is at the top of her career
However, paparazzi are everywhere and start becoming very intrusive to the point where the young woman falls into severe depression (“nights at the chateau, trapped in your sunset bungalow”) and she is even seen crying. Finally, she can’t take it anymore. She grabs a med bottle and swallows all of its contents.
She is then seen in a hospital bed. Her family walks in with the doctor right behind them, with the most solemn look ever, and says to her that she isn’t gonna make it (that part is self explanatory).
Her mom gets on her knee, reaches her hand out to her and starts crying. The woman looks at her, with a heartbroken smile on her face and says it will be alright (“every face along the boulevard is a dreamer just like you, you looked at death in a tarot card and you saw what you had to do”)
The scene then cuts back to Brendon for the second chorus, this time, accompanied by Kiara, Desiree, and Leah (the Wicked Strings). Once the instrumental starts, the woman’s grip loosens and her mother realizes her daughter’s life is at an end. She then starts crying with her husband over shoulder with tears forming in his eyes too.
As the instrumental slows down, the young woman’s life in LA is shown and how she never really lived a good life in LA. Finally, the scene cuts to the birds outside of the hospital (the birds at the end of the song)
You should be the director 😍
Wha- this is amazing 😔
Now, I will die of sadness.
I think "dying in LA" means when an artist gets "the fame" he/she ever wanted is not the same person anymore, so the real person he/she is "dies", idk just my opinion
that makes a lot of sense
Yea thats deap
Damn thats a new level of depth
huh, i have been thinking that it means when your popularity in fame is fading. i totally didn’t think of it in the way that you did
I don't think he means the real person though. He's definitely grateful for all be has. I think he means the old him, "we're all different people throughout our lives and that's good you've got to keep moving got to keep changing, so long as you remember the person that you used to be." . It may be little hard to understand but maybe he is changing or maybe he has already changed but if you listen closely, he's definitely happy about it.
Me: Ok Google, put Dying in LA on repeat

Fruity Pebz absolutely. That’s my favourite song off my favourite album of theirs.
Had on old friend, this was our favourite band, sadly I found out how much of a monster they were, manipulated everyone. It sucks to see people we love change for the worst, but the reality is we cant control it, we just have to make sure we do our best to stay true to ourselves, my old friend still acts like nothings happened and lives like they have no flaws, it hurts, but now ik itll come back to haunt them, so I play this song, as a reminder that if someones personality 'dies' for a new one. You just have to decide if it's good for you or not. So to the people that are in a toxic friendship or just feel like the friendship isnt for them anymore, pick you bags up and walk out. You deserve better x
This song tells the story of every actor, influencers, directors, etc in LA

I think I've figured out the plot of PFTW:
So basically the person starts with (high hopes) for fame and glory, then gets success (hey look Ma I made it). The now celebrity is having a great time and starts to have a great life but then gets drunk more and more often and forgets their beginnings. Then comes dying in La where he is now suffering and dying and only now remembering where he came from and that now nobody knows him really.
Stilinskiani YES I THINK UR RIGJT
Your theory is genius.
This made me cry even more *sobbing*
*GENIUS!!!!!!!*
Stilinskiani deep words
Wtf the dying in LA one is actually insanely good😱
Death in a tarot card isn’t actually dying. It means a significant change is coming.
It’s talking about him moving on with his life. I take it as he’s talking to his past self. He grew up and changed his life completely
And this is coming from the guy who wrote LA Devotee... Saying that he loved LA. Few years later, dying in LA
I guess he has this love/hate relationships with LA. Too many-dimensional to define in one way
prlnsl no the thing is, I'm pretty sure that in tarot cards, death means change, so it might be changing in LA. But I'm not too sure.
I hope he's not having any problems right now, because this one is about, well, DYING in LA, and Hey Look Ma I Made It is about the "trap" of fame I guess you could say.
prlnsl That’s like me deciding which foods I like
2017: “I’ll have chicken”
2018: “EW CHICKEN WHY WOULD YOU THINK I LIKE THAT!”
well LA devotee wasn't really about loving LA, it was about corruption.

The meaning of this song is, that when you start to become famous its amazing, until you realize that hate comes along with it, and how fame isn’t all that good.
No the meaning is he sold his soul pretty much. Love him tho
I am so surprised I have never heard a couple of these considering I binged every song that popped up for panic but the more you know

I’m kinda worried for Brendon like it hurts when you can’t Comfort him Bc he doesn’t know you
Crazy Human omg I'm feeling the same way, I'm so frustrated, I want to hug him and tell him everything's going to be ok😭
I feel the same. I just wanna hug him and tell him its gonna be okay.
why would you be worried for him ? he probably got the best life you can imagine
oOKharonOo I don't think you took attention on the meaning of his songs here on this album. It seems like brendon is going through some heavy shit and we're all concerned.
marshy rowe bullshit
I love Brendan more than anything. I’ve looked up to him for so so long and his lyrics hit me so hard. I’ve been listening to him for years and I’m so happy he continues to create beautiful music. He just gets better and better and he never stops. He’s an amazing role model to anyone who’s goin through tough times. Brendan just truly means the world to me and his personality, voice, and just he embodies an amazing person that nothing can top. I’ve gone through hard times and no matter what this music has helped me through it
Its been 3 years brendon, we still haven't forgotten about you
Dying in la?? I'm dying in my room from THIS SONGGG.

Why do I picture someone squeezing his throat just to get that really high note?
Just imagine watching them in a recording studio and you see some buff guy standing there all serious and only squeezes his throat

Acoustic means not electric so technically since this is piano and string instruments that don't need to be plugged in or anything, this is already acoustic. That being said, I get what you mean, like acoustic guitar ;)
Just kill me now
ouch
umm it is acoustic...
I was in the middle of class today listening to music and this came on and I started picturing him flying over playing the piano and I started to cry
For those who may not have understood the line "you looked at Death in a tarot card and you saw what you had to do", here's an explanation of tarot and of Death (XIII):
Tarot readings are used not to tell the future but predict outcomes and help guide you in the right direction as to either pursue or avoid that outcome.
The Death card represents major change, usually representing an end to something (not usually life, more like relationships or lifestyle), upright representing self-awareness and reversed representing arrogance in a sense. If you were to draw this card in a reading, you'd know change is coming, and depending on the position, you might know whether or not you are prepared/willing enough to take it on, or how your behavior may affect the outcome.
We can clearly see that he put his feelings in all of his song. Unlike some artists nowadays, they would just sing for money and fame while Brendon puts all his efforts and feelings.
Same That's what i was thinking i hoop he's oké.
PATD Fangirl He really does. Not a lot of artists do that in 2018. Rappers and most pop artists just make music with no meaning, just jingles.
I love brendon and i agree that he puts so much emotion into this song- but there’s nothing wrong with artists who simply want to make bops without meaning!! There’s lots of other artists who pour emotion into their art and i don’t think it should be completely shamed (unless they’re actually just jerks who treat others badly and clearly just want the money?) but i do get where you’re coming from since i don’t like a lot of popular music today
PATD Fangirl YES! THANK YOU! SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME! This is a huge reason I hate alot of today's songs, because there's nothing in it.
But Brendan does beautifully
PATD Fangirl thats why i love him
"Every face along the boulevard"
Was it a boulevard of broken dreams?
Melissa Kaleka I understood that reference.
panicking!atthediscoseemsfun buti'mjoshsodunwithyee i understood that reference of understanding that reference
Actually, yes. This song is literally about LA being the city of (broken) dreams.
