    hey Luke, Just FYI, gas wood stove is designed to burn top down. So if you pack the chamber with sticks vertical just below the 2nd air holes, then start fire on top burning from top down, it will burn for 45-60min. I can cook a 3 course meal for 2 person and still have enough heat to make tea without needing to add wood during cooking. Using the top down burning and pack the chamber with enough wood to begin with is the key.

      Packing it worked MUCH better than just randomly tossed in sticks, started the fire with 3 little squares of cut-up Strike-a-Light sticks (just 3 Chicklet-size pieces, but I'll bet shredded would work too) on the top. Perfection. Also note, originally used randome, on the ground sticks which were conifers- burned VERY sooty. 2nd test = packed in maple+conifer+alder: much better (burned off most of the soot!) 3rd test will be oak slivers from the woodshed.

    Mine came with an extra attachment. It came with a circle grill attachment. Side note: if you stack the twigs and sicks so that you have them stand on end, and jam pack them in and light it from the top, the fire will last about half an hour to 45 minutes.

    I own one of these stoves and have used it extensively. Think Swedish fire log, cut small pieces of wood around the exterior and starter twigs in the middle. I use wood about 1/2" around the outside (diameter) and 2" long approx. don't cover your catalytic converter holes over. It lasts much longer and even burns long enough to make dish cleaning water and hot beverage afterwards. Hope this helps in you testing. Cheers!

    Luke, I bought one of these Ohuhu stoves after seeing your review. I timed a TWO cup water boil test using alcohol, gel wax cotton ball and wood bits. The alcohol boil was around six minutes with no wind block, wood test was the fastest 4+ minutes and the gel wax was awful! Gel wax put off so much soot it was unhealthy to be around and it never boiled the water. It did heat to a near boil but I wouldn't dare drink the water due to the massive amount of soot. Alcohol was the cleanest burn followed by wood then the gel wax. This stove is a great little addition to my car camping kit. Thank you.

    @SeaCatFl Před 2 lety +2

    Okay I bought one of these and have used it for quite some time. It does work well but it does have one bad aspect. It gets hot beneath the stove. Hot enough that it burned through a chunk of Plywood. The thing to do is either put it on something that wont burn like a flat Rock or put it on a sheet of metal that is raised off anything burnable.
    Lukes idea of modifying the Pot Support Ring is a good one that works well. I cut a section out of mine and it works just fine.

    Thank you for your review. I just purchased this stove with the bonus little grill $21 on Amazon. I bought it because I heard the pot rest could be used to hack the.MSR Windburner stove so I could use any pot not just their expensive Windburner pots. Jetboil offers an adaptor for their stove, but the hole is smaller making Windburner less efficient. The Ohuhu did the trick. Their pot holder fits better, the little grill was absolute good luck because if you use it on top of pot holder, it holds the pot/ pan even more stable. Should also use wider spread cannister stand if using Solo Windburner and a bit larger pot. Now to round out all my cooking options I just ordered the Trangia alcohol burner to drop into the Ohuhu if needed! I think that should work? I admit I didn’t do my homework enough when I bought The MSR Windburner as I really didn’t catch how expensive the particular special pots are, but with an additional $40 with above I believe I could cook in almost any condition 🔥 🔥🤔

    Nice video. This is one of a few Chinese clones of the Silverfire Scout Stove(made in USA). I have two. It will fit inside a 775 ml MSA Alpine Stowaway pot. It also fits inside the Pathfinder 1800 ml bush pot...with room for food, etc. The Silverfire Scout has upgraded to a top ring with fixed pot supports. Similar versions can be found among the clones as well. Silverfire also has the mini dragon pot which is a double wall pot which captures ALL the heat from this stove and keeps it between the two walls making it much more efficient in cold weather. Cram it full, (think Sweedish fire Log(torch), light it from the top down, dont bother with the notch.

    Luke, I have the gas one stove, same stove, I’ve found if you measure your twigs to all the same height and load the stove with the twigs standing up neatly ,packing them tightly you can boil 3 pots of water or around 38-40 oz of water without reloading the stove. Burning the stove from the top down makes it more efficient. Cutting in the side of the stove destroys the gasification effect and it will smoke like crazy.

    Very happy with this stove, (bought the summer before last). A Trangia alcohol burner fits inside it if there are no twigs around. I am using 2 inch diameter cotton pads, soaked in candle wax as fire starters. On my last camping trip, I stuffed soaking wet branches, vertically- that were over 2 feet high, and it was just like a giant candle- looked really neat, and attracted a lot of attention.

It is similar to the Redcamp stove (there are many reviews on CZcams) but I believe it is a lot heavier duty. It weighs arond 2.5 kilos so is not a back packing stove. Hate to disagree with everyone. I bought this sometime back as it was the first cheap woodgas stove I came across. I make DIY stoves of this type and teach it to children in outdoor camps. The stove is cheap and compact which is the only good thing that can be said about it. At first I could not even get a secondary burn, probably due to the freezing weather. By comparison a homemade paint can with a stainless steel cooking utensil container as an inner chamber worked much better and longer. I tried them both side by side. Later I was able to get a secondary burn in warmer temperatures. It does not work well when significantly below freezing. The chamber is just too small for much fuel and in woodstoves size really matters. It is okay for summer use and backpacking where size is important. The smaller the size the more wood cutting is required to get it to fit in. If you can't make your own then it is passable for casual use but it is not an all season all weather woodgas stove.

    Be advised, if you cook an larger meal on this stove it can build up radiant heat under it and start a secondary fire. Be careful with it on less than bare rock or concrete surfaces. It works great on wood pellets as well, a great stove for emergency prepping.

    @MrJoeyBoombotz Před 8 lety +1

    You may have noticed, the stove worked fine until you tried to help it along, smothering it and forcing/creating the smoke it was designed not to produce,.
    Load the stove first 2/3s of the way up and 2/3s of the way all round with heavy sticks vertically, 2-3 inches high and intersperse smaller twigs/sticks , birch bark, resin, or even dry leaves/pine needles in- between and on top. That should fill the entire stove LOOSELY so the fire/fuel has some air , with the top on. Then light the stove in several places on top and have it burn down. 4-5 small spitball sized tissue paper,cotton balls soaked in alcohol or with petroleum jelly product on top works best. Then LEAVE IT ALONE for 2-3 minutes before putting a pot on unless the fire goes out. It shouldn't unless the wind is too heavy. Having a good windscreen, which is almost as important as the stove or cookpot, eliminates that problem.
    The stove is a TLUD design, Top Lit Up Draft gasifier stove. The flames should last over an hour with fairly dry fuel. You can either reload then or start feeding it small to medium sticks underneath the pot after 40-45 minutes or so if you are still cooking.

    Great review as always, but it still doesn't beat the Ikea drainer. I can fit my whole cookset inside the small version of the drainer including a Trangia burner & fuel, Matches, windshield, pegs for pot stand, pot, hanging chain, pot grippers, a scourer and paper to stop it rattling. the drainer was just Euro 2.95.

    Cutting holes may effect the principle of how the wood gas stove work. I mention this stove carry take a lot of wood and to make it even more efficient try the Swedish torch method of packing the stove with wood and you should get a very long and efficient burn time. Cheers ;)

    I made a gasafire stove like that and I made a higher top. So my space between the fire chamber is a good three inches from any pot I put on it, which really helps feeding in the wood. Just thinking now about your stove, insted of cutting into it to make a hole. Can you make a disk or square plate of expansion metal to lay on top of the three pot stands? Mainly to hold the pan higher on the three legs. Maybe that will give you more room to feed wood into the stove. That stove is efficient enough where you could have it crazy high from the bunner opening and it still will boil water for sure.

    Awesome looking stove and great price. I wouldn't cut a slot into the top piece, it may weaken it to the point that it won't hold a pot. Looking at the design, you can probably find that piece in the gas stove parts replacement area at Lowe's or Home Depot, looks similar...hey it's worth checking out

    Yeah the ohulo stove is a a animal of cooking stove, I like using charcoal in it. When ya have finished with big camp fire I save up some of the coals that cooled off save some toward next fire, but it does work nice.

    I fail to see the difference between that and two tomato juice cans. Mine has a shiny base, 46 Oz tomato can with can opener holes, open top, combustion can set inside for wood/pencil shavings/alcohol/3 charcoal brkts/veggie oil, etc., all at the same time for a raging fireball. The next level has a coffee can that fits into the tomato can which takes in heat from the combustion. You can fry, bake, boil, or frikasee in the coffee can, but there is another level on top of the coffee can where you can fry a hamburger or boil water. I also use a hollowed out can to slip over top of the coffee can for double wall heat conservation and can yet cook on the top. I save the can lids to cook on instead of the stove tops. I cooked two hamburgers and ramen noodles the other night. Burgers done in 2 minutes and 8 Oz water to boil in under 5. $20 for that looks great but isn't stackable to 4 or 5 levels like tomato juice cans. I cook with 9 cans in one stack.

    I'm getting one. EDIT.... I just ordered one. $18.99 with Amazon Prime. Thanks Luke. This is my first wood burning stove, I could not see spending the money on the pricey ones. Even if that top burner eventually gives out you could we just put a small grate on it?

    Looks like a good little stove. No need to drill holes to feed it though, just lift off your pot for a few seconds & drop your twigs in. If you use the 'Swedish' torch method when packing in the wood, you shouldn't need to re-feed it anyway.

    Ijust got mine today in the mail. I also ordered a Sterno folding stove that came in the same package. There are only a couple draw backs. Number one is if you are using alcohol, it is a small capacity and liquid fuel can be dangerous. The second point is the reason it is so inexpensive is it is made by people that earn very low wages. This is something that I really feel bad about.

    Great too at busy campsites when everyone else has nabbed all the wood from the pile and left only the small scraps and twigs.

  • @hans-jurgenwiegand7465

    If I have trouble with the size of the pots, I can use an old 1 pound coffee can, cut it down, it will hold smaller cans, or use a frying pan on top, with the smaller pot inside it. Doesn’t sound like a problem for BUSH CRAFTERS! They are always improvising, or starving!

    Please add a feeder hole, Luke. Even something an inch or 2 wide would be great. Can't really do much more than boil a small bit of water without one, I'd think. I was looking at this stove probably about the same time you were. Looked very interesting. Thanks for the review! :)

    • @ChrisC30

      Another idea would be to dremel a slot for wood into the ring of that pot support but I don't know about that. Probably easier to put it in the side of that top chamber.

    I just had mine delivered today & bought it for £10 off eBay 😁 Definitely think chopping up some chunkier bits of wood as well as adding twigs would make it burn for longer although will look at your other video of you adding a twig feeder. I'm so looking forward to cooking something yummy in a lovely location somewhere but will test it in the garden at some point. Now what to cook 🤔
