  • Though Max is an incapacitated victim for the first part of Fury Road, it's a mistake to downplay his role. What he does and what's done to him are shown in this video to be the film's symbol of redemption.

      It doesn’t have to be Christian. These stories, myths, and archetypes have permeated human culture long before Christianity or even Abrahamic faiths in general. It’s arguable that a large amount of these myths are so ancient that they have essentially become basic psychological building blocks of humanity’s understanding and relationship with their own lives.

      Yeah, it is beautiful. We don't think about it much, or try not to, but on a miniature scale within lifetimes the world is created, experienced, and then lost. We're born into it, this is our world, and by the time we leave it the best we can do is just hope that what we leave behind will keep the world going. Every single living thing puts its all into its offspring in the exact same manner before their time comes to a close and they are lost to the world for good. It's amazing, beautiful, a touch sad.

      @Ben A did you even see the movies? Max is a character who wanders into other people's stories, playing a minor role in the history of post-historical australia. In a way, this was the most heroic portrayal of his character in the series.

    • @maxwellschmidt235
      @maxwellschmidt235 Před 4 lety +45

      @Ben A go rewatch them all. First one is the only one that told the story of Max descending along with society around him. You're being willfully obtuse if you think Max is any less a main character in Fury Road than in Thunderdome or Road Warrior.

    • @maxwellschmidt235
      @maxwellschmidt235 Před 4 lety +44

      @Ben A you have proven nothing. If this is how you write your essays, you'll never graduate from eighth grade. You keep saying he was reduced, while the rest of us see him playing all the key symbolic roles, and probably having more agency in the result of the film than in any previous installment. In the original, he gets revenge, but the point is that he is reduced to an animal reacting to stimuli. By the time of Thunderdome, Tina Turner is playing him like a fiddle- to the point that the film is bookended by her singing "we don't need another hero", implying just how little he actually accomplishes in the span of the movie.
      We don't need a whole lot of exposition on Max's character. We needed to get to know Furiosa so that we could understand her importance to the story that Max had wandered into. It doesn't diminish Max to introduce a new character to whom he must impart the wisdom accumulated by decades of wandering the deserts.
      From the start, the Mad Max franchise has been about a roaming anti-hero surviving a world of toxic masculinity even as the world beats him down to its level. But even more, it's about that world struggling to advance by regaining balance between masulinity and femininity.

    • @maxwellschmidt235
      @maxwellschmidt235 Před 4 lety +19

      @Ben A literally all you've referenced is your own point of view, so the existence of the greatest Mad Max movie is itself an ad hominem attack on you. And now you are committing the logical fallacy of assuming that an argument is wrong because it contains a fallacy. You still have not said anything of value towards your viewpoint.

    My father raised me on mad max. He passed not long after Fury Road dropped and I’ll always remember his answer when my mother asked why didn’t Max stay at the citadel? or why did he help people when his only interest was initially his own survival? His response sticks with me, years later, and it sums up what Max is all about to me. “Max goes where he’s needed.” And that’s all he’s been from Road Warrior onward. The man with the skills you need at the time you need him.

      @@shellymills8105 That's a great take, Shelly. I'd say spot on! I, just, like watching Mel kick ass with the blown V8. I think Max's losing His car in Fury Road, without the history of the car in the first two movies made it worse, for Me, in that regard. And turning Tom Hardy, one of the most bad-ass actors on earth: ("Lawless": Holy Shit, Batman!) into a bloodbag for The Toecutter, I mean (Guy with harem of earth goddesses), was indicative of a possible jealousy of stud-muffins on Miller's part. I bet Spielberg has these moments, every once in a while: "Damn that damnable Harrison, his charm, his rakish good looks, his Carpentry!"

      Steven Durham Steven Durham nice! Love the carpentry ford pun ;)
      And yes I thought it was pretty interesting that within 2 minutes Max’s atypical co-star (his vehicle) was dragged away without much fuss and without much backstory on it. But then again miller steered away from his atypical everyone is aware of any schemes with joe’s crew helping furiousa in the beginning for quite a bit withOUT knowing what’s really going on with her endgame/ulterior motives. So yeah. He reinvigorated a lot of his normal tricks with a new twist but still kept this primal almost Nordic/Viking/warrior feel to the lesser males which was cool, them being the less informed rather than the ladies (again going against the grain)
      I’ll bet Spielberg and John Carpenter and even like Tim Burton talk about their “boy” lmao
      Tim - Dang how does Jonny make moody seem sincere and not emo?
      Spielberg - rakish good looks and can fix shelves? ;) lol
      Carpenter - Kurt Russel’s a badass! FOREVER!

      @@shellymills8105 I used to know a gal who knew Spielberg and Harrison. I did some Carpentry for her. She was very appreciative of the work I did (She took Me out to dinner: really nice lady).
      When I mentioned that Harrison is a carpenter, She said: "A great carpenter, " if memory serves. So, my Spielberg line was based on research in the field: a Mexican restaurant in Toluca Lake, to be precise. Ahh: Margaritas and tequila shots, and completely above board and fun. A memory that makes me smile. She introduced Me to Steve Earle, too, on the Copperhead Road tour, quite a thrill for a young musician and actor.
      P.S.: Further silliness: I think the best person to narrate this answer is Humphrey Bogart, from The Maltese Falcon: "As for the Dame, I haven't seen Her since. I heard she got a big-time Producer job, working for the Mouse. None of My business, right now, but when the fanboys get their boy panties in a wad, I think about those Margaritas, and tell those punks that Lucas screwed up the writing in the first movie, and it's been action figures, ever since. "
      All The Best.
      PPS: I agree with Your assessment: Kurt Russell IS a Badass, forever, and, I might add, his wife, Goldie, is the cutest girl on planet earth: her daughter is pretty darned adorable, also. Meg Ryan gave it a darned good try, but she didn't have the stamina: Kurt and Goldie are, both, battle-scarred veterans in the war against the dumb.

It's like a calling of honor, to pay the ultimate price. In the end, when you have a wife, and a child, and the moment comes for you to sacrifice yourself for the one you love, and the one that you have created, you will do so...as being male, at least for me, it feels...right. We know everything about the world and the main characters through plot and action alone. The dialogue is just the icing on the cake, and still there’s quite a handful of memorable lines and conversations. All I can interpret, was that each of the war lords kind of represent the four horseman of the apocalypse, Immortan Joe is the disease apocalypse which explains his illness along with his children and his followers. The Fat one in charge of the Gas town represents the Famine and starvation, given that he is extremly fat means he hogs all the food and ration everyone else into starvation. So the leader of the Bullet farm is fire and destruction because he creates weapons. But I beleive that the fourth to be Death is Max, he is haunted by the dead and pretty much comes out of every fight. But your analysis of the movie pretty much explains every detail of the movie, you get my👍
