  • There are strange creatures in mines... are they friend or foe? For as long as people have been picking away at rocks under ground, or making holes in the landscape the folklore of little creatures has been with them. Sometimes protecting those who leave offerings for these little Folk. Sometimes though playing tricks or being downright wicked. Here we will look at some mine Goblins from around and about. What do they have in common? And how do they differ around the world?

    I have explored abandoned mines here in Devon for years, and I can say truly, the Mine Knockers are true! I only saw one once, in an old copper mine and he was looking at me through a hole between my mine wall and the tunnel he was in, next to my adit. Just a small hole, but there was his eye, looking at me. I looked down for a second to get a stronger light and when I looked back, he was gone! I couldn't even see the hole he was looking through! I think they have spy-holes like this with stone plugs to hide their holes as did this guy. No harm was done, since I always take a pasty in with me and leave the crust at least. They are fine if you show respect, trust me, I used to work for the Queen!

    FWIW: I have never visited inside a mine. However, I have visited a couple caves, decades ago, while on family vacations in Indiana, USA. One was a water-filled cave, and accessed by small boat. {Not a lot of caves where my parents and I lived: Florida, USA.}
    Being in a cave is quite a _unique experience._ Without artificial lighting, *TOTALLY DARK.*

      @Allan_aka_RocKITEman Před 5 měsíci +2

      ALSO FWIW: If I remember correctly, both caverns were located in or near *_"Spring Mill State Park,"_* near the city of Mitchell in southern Indiana.
      My parents, with me in tow, spent summer vacations staying with my Mom's Aunt and her husband in Mitchell. My Dad's sister and her husband lived in nearby Bedford. Some other relatives lived in that part of the state as well. That is how I got to visit Spring Mill S.P. GOOD VACATION MEMORIES...👍
      {Although I have been living in North Carolina, USA since the mid-1990s, I was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. However, BOTH my parents, and most of both their extended families, were *_"Hoosiers"_* -- people born or raised in Indiana.}

      @@talesoffeyandfolk>>> *DO IT.* {But be safe.}
      TWO of my regrets are during all the years I lived in Florida -- and ESPECIALLY the seven years I lived in Dade County, Florida -- my wife and daughter and I never visited Key West. {My parents took me there once when I was a child, but I barely remember that trip.} We also never took an airboat ride in the Florida Everglades.
      My wife and I are divorced now, but still good friends. Our daughter is now in her latter 30s, with a family of her own.
      *VISIT THAT MINE, WITH WHO YOU WANT TO GO WITH, WHILE YOU CAN.*

    Mines are pretty scary, but I did enjoy the salt mines in Salzburg. I wonder if miners still see and hear these creatures today?

      They are scary, we are totally out of our element in dark places... I think that's why I like them.... though in groups, that creepy feeling. Or maybe I am just weird like that hahah!!

    Knockers were known in Lancashire. My grandad talked of them

      I think they are everywhere, different names but the same little creatures. I'm originally from Lancashire... beautiful county :)

    Okay, NOW I know what a _"pasty"_ [sp?] actually is.
    I heard it mentioned in a video on another CZcams channel, but other than knowing it was some kind of food I had no idea what it was.
