The FA have recently shared a training video that Wembley Stadium has produced on different types of pyrotechnics. It provides some useful visual guidance on flares and smoke bombs.

They obscure vision, when lots of them are set off the crowd is completely engolfed in thick smoke making it impossible to evacuate in an emergency without more people getting hurt or killed due to not being able to see anything or anyone around them, and causing a delay in people even noticing when there is an emergency. The extent of the long-term effects of repeated exposure to that smoke on not just lungs but also the brain development of children is also one giant unethical experiment being carried out in stadiums abroad where kids breathing that stuff in is a regular occurrence. I know fans have invented cold flares that are in use in some places, more innovations like that should be a priority to let the pyro not just continue but be able to get even bigger and better by removing the drawbacks.
