    He was the fifth overall pick in 2010 and at one point, he was destined to become the best big man in the NBA. According to some people, he was the best big man. But why is DeMarcus Cousins not in the NBA? That’s what he wants to know.
    Just 4 seasons ago he was averaging 25 points, 12.9 rebounds at 27 years old. He should be in his prime right now, but instead, he’s hopped from team to team from the Warriors to the Rockets, Clippers, Bucks, Nuggets…according to Bob Myers the Warriors GM, it’s because people are afraid of how Cousins is going to act… because what DeMarcus Boogie Cousins did on and off the court scared the NBA.
    Draymond Green called DeMarcus Cousins the best big man in the NBA in 2017.
    Oh yeah and also LeBron…
    The concerns were real enough to cause Boogie to drop to #5 in the draft to the Sacramento Kings even though Boogie was easily the most talented player. His impact on the franchise was immediate. He had the 19th highest usage rate in the league as a rookie. He averaged a respectable 14.1P, 8.6R, 2.5A, 1.0Stl, 0.8Blk on 43% shooting from the field and 69% from the free throw line.
    The Kings hoped pairing the unpredictable Boogie would balance with their young, mild mannered, 2010 rookie of the year, Tyreke Evans. For a brief period, Sactown had visions of their own Kobe & Shaq.
    Boogie was drafted with a Zion like 16.4% body fat with no veteran leadership to hold him accountable. Barkley was drafted #5 as well and had his issues with weight too, but credits his veterans for tough love and forcing him to get in shape.
    And Boogie and the Kings both didn’t change their ways. From the team perspective, another way you don’t want to start the year is by drafting a power forward Thomas Robinson 5th, one spot ahead of Dame Lillard a point guard that you needed.
    DeMarcus’s rap sheet goes long, so much that the media was making up stories about Isiah Thomas restraining Cousins from attacking a camera man
    But by his 4th season in 2014, Cousins was so good, that all the other extracurricular activities didn’t matter. Cousins averaged 22.7 points, 9th in the league, and 11.7 boards, 5th in the league.
    And as Boogie kept getting better, becoming an All-Star, becoming the fourth player in NBA history to collect 20+ points, 20+ rebounds, 10+ assists and 5+ blocks in a single game. But the new coach George Karl was trying to get Cousins traded. Boogie tweeted out a snake in the grass emoji.
    and the Kings decided they had had enough and traded him to the Pelicans. DeMarcus again was hurt but he was paired with Anthony Davis. And at the time, this duo was being called the new twin towers and man was it fun to watch.
    But on Jan. 26, 2018, in a game against the first-seed Houston Rockets, Cousins suffered a rupture of his Achilles, ending his season. And with free agency coming up, Cousins was screwed.
    Teams didn’t really offer Cousins any worthwhile contracts for a 4x all-star and so he made a move that broke twitter as fans and NBA players cried that the league was broken.Yup, he signed a one year 5.3M deal with the Warriors to join Curry, Klay, KD, and Draymond. The Warriors lost to the Raptors in the Finals and Cousins was back to the drawing board so he signed a $3.5 million deal to sign with the title favorite Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony Davis wanted to play with him again.
    But Cousins tore he tore his ACL from a pre-season workout in Las Vegas. That might be some of the worst luck I’ve ever seen in a star athlete.
    And with all the injuries, Cousins didn’t really have any options.
    And part of that was because Boogie at face value wasn’t really a good defender. He wasn’t able to keep up defensively on the perimeter in switch defenses and perhaps more importantly, he would sometimes ball watch, lacking defensive focus. Most teams had seen him as an offensive weapon but with all the injuries, teams weren’t willing to give Cousins that chance of running an offense from the low block post area. Paul George even said that Cousins is still a dominant big and demands a double-team.
    From kicking chair meltdowns, to beefing with his head coaches, to arrest warrants, DeMarcus Cousins hasn’t always been a professional nor has he recieved much help. It’s not that Cousins isn’t good enough to make a team now, even after all his injuries. It’s that his skill and talent is no longer worth the supposed headache he is. Which seems weird when recent teammates and head coaches have raved about him. And with all the other extracurriculars we’ve seen in the NBA right now, it’s apparent that the NBA collective just decided to be done with Cousins.

      I think signing him to short term contracts is the best way to go. Its a shame that it didn't work out at Milwaukee, but that is a healthy and well-run organization so if it didn't work out there, its a red flag. Portis had a similarly tumultuous first half of his career, but he has smoothed it out considerably. I'm sad to see that Cousins couldn't have a similar experience, because as much as he's done to hurt himself, I also think he was starting to mature and could've salvaged the latter stages of his career.
      Its weird how the NBA clearly blacklists all stars. Isaiah Thomas, Carmelo Anthony and DeMarcus Cousins should all be playing somewhere. The talent pool would be improved with all of them, and as a fan, I still wish I could see them play. What are they so AFRAID of?

      @jonmitchell9019 Před rokem

      He was playing about half the games every year. For the last 5 years he has been injuried alot. His attitude is not good according to teammates. He has not avg double figure in points in 6 years has not avg more than 5 rebounds a game in that same span. I think he is not good enough for how much money he wants and conflict with teammates he has. If you have a bad attitude you need to playing alot more and doing alot more.

    • @SeanGrantstormpinball
      @SeanGrantstormpinball Před rokem +2

      @@jonmitchell9019 I agree, I guess I just find his whole career arc so frustrating because it seemed like he was feeling about to turn things around when he was with the Pelicans before the injury. He was unstoppable inside and had added a high percentage 3 point shot outside. He was a legit MVP candidate and then he got a severe injury and never recovered. Its just a shame. Without the injury, maybe he would've had success and he could've blossomed and started a positive snowball instead of a downward spiral. Maybe with a vacation from all of his bad circumstances, he would've found some peace of mind, and his attitude would've changed. I guess we'll probably never know.

      Totally different situations, Draymond has been an integral part of a 4 Championship team, Demarcus Cousins stock has been falling ever since he got injured in New Orleans. Its not like overnight no team has wanted him, teams have been taking flyers on him for years now and now no one really wants too anymore. This is not getting banned......its just aging and injuries getting you out of the league. Same shit with Carmelo/Dwight, its not like overnight no team wanted them, it got to the point where teams would rather see whats up with younger talent, AND in Dwight and Cousins case, their position has kinda aged out of the league

    My subjective recollection of him, while he was playing for Golden State, is quite different from this video presentation. I was frustrated when he played, as he seemed to hardly ever score more than a couple points in a game, and it never seemed that he was very effective on defense. It never seemed like he was playing as a precision part of the team, like the Warriors now play. I was happy to see him go to another team.

      It should make him sit down and examine himself as to why no NBA team wants him. He could be a big help to the teams out here now, but nobody wants to deal with his attitude. He should be at a point where he is mature enough to realize that, but obviously, he doesn't see it. He should be making millions and in high demand because he's a good big man. Ron Artest played in the NBA another 6 or 7 seasons after the brawl at the palace. Latrell Sprewell played another 6 to 7 seasons after chocking his coach. These guys were vilified and crucified by the media. But they still had decent NBA careers after being participants in notorious events in sports. Granted these guys are not as big and strong as Cousins.Cousins never did anything as bad as what Artest and Sprewell did, Yet the NBA owners blacklisted Cousins out of fear and image reasons. Once the league got Adam Silver as the commissioner its been more about maintaining the Image of the league. Cousins never been to jail or prison. No drug issues, gang affiliations,ect. Yet white america still fear big angry black men.
    Cousins played very well for Denver last season. I get that the NBA is now a position-less league and expects bigs to guard the perimeter. But that shouldn't apply to a guy that can score at close,mid, 3 pt range,have playmaking passing ability, and can rebound very efficiently.

    It's so sad we really getting soft out here frfr. The man asked Myers and Myers said "there afraid of how you gone act" there's an agenda in place they probably don't want that to influence the youth which is bs bc there's been worst players than cousins and did we have a problem with that no. Smh

    He's a big childish bully. He acted like a big spoiled brat, and he never tried to change his attitude. So it's his own fault that he's no longer in the NBA. He was always very defiant and bullheaded, always ready to fight or get violent and confrontational. He could have been on the same level as all the greats if it weren't for that. And it's sad because he is a great player.

    atp teams would definitely look past his anger issues and past problems if he wasn't injury prone. Like not only are you risking potential huge problems with team chemistry and controversy( even though i believe hes matured a little) but your also risking him getting injured again and becoming unplayable, making it a really shitty situation.

    Demarcus learned a lot the hard way in his 20’s but he’s matured quite a bit growing into his 30’s. I think a guy like Demarcus needs a stable, supportive franchise to call home and some tough love discipline if/when he screws up. Unfortunately, it sounds like he can’t escape his past enough to prove his value (and maturity) at this stage in his life. I think that’s a sad waste of talent but we all know how political the NBA is.
    As a Warriors fan I wish we had a “big” for the playoffs. Boogie would be a great fit - he already knows Kerr’s system so he’s basically plug and play. If an issue pops off he and Draymond can always fight it out 😂

    • @WCPFISH

      the NBA (like every other major sport) is not at all political. If you can play you play doesn't matter what an asswipe you are (Deshaun Watson) and if you're not good enough you don't get to play (Josh Rosen). You can cheat and comeback if you can hit (Manny Ramirez, Manny Machado) and if you can't hit? Bye. NBA same way.

    I love/hate it when players with bad attitudes's careers finally catch up with them, and they wanna act like they didn't see it coming.
    In the regular world, most jobs will let you go because of your attitude, regardless of how hard you work.
    He did it to himself.

  • @rezarfar
    @rezarfar Před rokem +1

    He has anger issues but that isn't the main issue, his main issue is he holds a grudge and doesn't let go of issues so when he gets into issues with people, which having anger issues, he will inevitably have problems with people, his grudges and inability to let go and move on keep the bad air lingering and it builds a bad atmosphere in the dressing room.
    Its actually two detrimental personality traits. If he just had anger issues and didn't hold a grudge, he would be in a similar position to KG and other greats who had anger issues but could shake hands after.
    If he had no anger issues but just held a grudge, well thats basically what MJ did to motivate himself, so thats fine too.
    But put those two personality traits together and you have one foul person.

    Team spirit is easily destroyed and then it doesn’t matter if ur a decent player. He got away with it with it in his prime while being a top scorer. Im 90% sure he wasn’t always in shape which is a must for a such a big and his athletic style of play to avoid injuries. With his immaturity and life’s, will sadly probably end up broke high is sad.

    The Chicago Bulls need a player like Cousins who has a dominating game, an intimidator. They are too nice on the court to win a championship. They let Caruso get tossed on his head and nobody did anything to Milwaukee's little guard. They need toughness and meanness. DeMarcus Cousins can give them that for a dirt cheap price. DeMarcus and Drummond would give the Bulls that fear factor that DeRozan and Lavine don't possess. Karnisov do you want to win championships or be a high school Principal?
