@Gerald Beattie Howya Gerry, I'm sorry for your loss buddy. I was with the 49th and only arrived in the Leb a few days before all this happened, as I was one of the 1st of the 49th lads with A-Coy. I was sent to your Ops area after Kevin Joyce went missing and the other lad Hugh Doherty was shot. Three lads died during that Bn., and least we forget Niall Byrne, I think his name was. Who died in a traffic accident. May they all R.I.P. As they never went out there to hurt anyone, the only thing they're are guilty of is, "Helping the People of Lebanon."

40 years ago there were no Lebanese in Germany, now there are dozens of clans operating in Germany. Originally they immigrated as refugees from war-torn Lebanon. they have about 10,000 members now 1 st 2nd and 3rd generations. I think we in the west have been and are very naive about the middle east and its inhabitants and their abilities.

And with the state of the German military (as I have understood), they might need a UN peacekeeping intervention there in the coming decades to keep order. Same goes for Sweden. Weak men create bad times.

I think Germany should worry about the millions of Syrians, Iraqi, Afghan and African “refugees” storming in rather than a few thousand Lebanese. Also your leaders who are letting them in.
Here in Canada it’s the same.

Don't forget Pte Stephen of Galway killed that year (1980) in Atiri in a gun battle with Israeli backed militia who sought revenge later for their casualties by kidnapping and murdering Barrett and Smallhorne.
