Always excited when I see a John Frusciante Video!!
Your content lately is 🔥 keep it coming 😊
Fantastic video---really excellent analysis!!
Damn that one in Soul to Squeeze was very subtle. That strat is such a beautiful guitar.
Would love a video that beaks down different chain orders between the SD1, DS2, and Variac Fuzz
Can’t wait for the Dyna Comp video! I have been wondering where John uses it on this tour.
still waiting
He’s actually got it with the sustain set fairly high, per his pedalboard pictures. So it’s not just a subtle “evening out” of volume or some slight extra sustain, it’s a pretty funky squeeze. He for sure uses it in the verses of things like Around the World and Aquatic Mouthdance, possibly also Charlie. Maybe also Right on Time, I Like Dirt and or/If You Have to Ask.
would love to see the dyna comp one
From my memory:
Californication (Solo)
Hey (middle 8)
Aquatic Mouth Dance (Chord solo/Bridge)
Soul to Squeeze (post solo bridge)
Can't stop all parts (except Bridge)
Fake As F@@k (main chords) ((I think))
prob more...
thanks for the information which you have been sharing. I'm trying to set the double amp setup. I have the Jubilee but not the Major. Do you have a budget friendly alternative to Major. I had thought of some Bugera amps but can't find them around for the moment. Or any amps of Helix?
Incredible video.
great video. frusciante for life
Where does he use the micro amp? before or after the distortions? When I look at some photos of the pedalboard it looks like the sequence is backwards
Good Video !
Do you have a Frusciante pedalboard next to your mayer board?
Very good pedal to warm up clean amplifier
More Frusciante!!!!
I think that JF turn on the MXR pedal in Cant't Stop in the solo. The tone in the rest of the music he gets using Pre-amp of Boss CE-1 Ensemble with a little crunch. That's my guess.
blz man? sabe me dizer onde o JF usa o micro amp? antes ou depois das distorções...?
Acho que é antes
Acho que é antes
still waiting for mxr dyna compressor
So I have noticed something in the last few shows that I find interesting, and I hope someone can hear and explain 😀 John has been getting a much more intense and gnarly tone that can be heard at the Japan shows specifically. I haven't heard this same tone in 2022 at all. I went to many of the 2022 shows and a hand full of the 2023 shows as well and am a guitar player so I'm pretty tuned into all of this. I don't want to lead the discussion in any one direction ( pedal ? , amp , settings .. ) so I won't add anything more right now. Let's start with has anyone else heard this yet in the recent 2023 shows? Okay. I'll break the rule I just laid out. Is he using the Not Not right with higher settings sometimes and or the Super bad ass V Fuzz or is it something else / other combination 🤔 ?
Not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but i watched a Jam video from later in 22 on their tour. Had that huge sound when he was doing controlled feedback that he used to do back in the californication tour days. I believe its DS-2 stacked with Fuzz and the CE-1 also on to create that width
Edit: vid is called whole lotta john frusciate [freestyle '22] if you wanted to check it out
What songs? I can prob. tell you if I know the songs.
Flea uses they same pedal as his boast for bass solos as well
❤️
One thing I don't see get mentioned much.. but John's tone, when the guitar volume is on 10 is dirty. he pulls the volume back to clean the tone up (maybe on 8?). turning the volume up creates more gain. he needs to micro amp to boost the clean, without getting dirty.
If turning up his guitar created distortion, so would the (even louder) Micro Amp. A louder signal is being sent into the CE-1 & amplifiers either way.
@@liamjenkins244 umm.. no. I do this every day. I know what I'm talking about.
to give you the benefit of doubt, if you don't experience this through your own gear, its something about your amp or your setup.
@Elmer Fudd If turning your guitar volume up exceeds the headroom of your amplifier & clips the signal, I don't see how boosting your signal could not cause clipping as well, a distortion source will not distinguish between volume from a guitar or pedal. Unless the boost is happening after the clipping is happening, for example Micro Amp after CE-1 pre or in effects loop of a driven amp.
When John kicks on the Micro Amp, there is a subtle amount of distortion added to the sound, which lends the extra sustain needed for lead tones, it's not just pure volume.
@@liamjenkins244 key word you just said is 'subtle'. MY micro amp does not start to break up until around 3 o clock. before that, it just fattens the tone.
Hotter pickups on the tele don't need the micro amp for can't stop
So does John not use the Micro amp for under the bridge intro?
Compressor is what you need mxr Dyna comp mentioned by others
Thanks man! It took me a while to realize that the Micro Amp is simply a boost pedal, not the always-on pre-amp/compressor circuit. I use the CE-1 remake, and it does a great job emulating it with my DSL 40.
Do we know where the micro amp is placed in the chain?
From what I’ve researched, pedal number 3 if I believe.
He uses the micro amp before or after the distortions?
Signal chain looks like Big Muff>Micro Amp>DS-2’s. So before.
@@rjo8500don't you have that backwards?
John will put a restraining order against you
I dont think Frusciante had the micro amp during the Californication Era, the micro amp technically came in during the By the Way era
He definitely didnt have it as part of that rig, i agree. In the off the map video he definitely has different dirty clean levels though. Can listen to the difference between the intro to give it away vs scar tissue on that vid. I just attributed it to him turning up the CE-1 preamp between songs. I assume he got the micro amp later so he could do this with a pedal instead of playing with his board
@@Bunna08 I dont think he would change the lvl of the ce-1 preamp beetween songs, its more that he uses different mics on the guitar on those 2 songs and he hit strings way harder on give it away than scar tissue, that still make a quite big diff in the tone
