My favorite are seasons 1-2. I love how they show the newspaper of Rick getting shot and then show pictures of Shane and Lori. I also like how they show the rv and farmhouse and empty stores and buildings and streets and packed highways which show how the apocalypse took ahold of the world.

Seeing all the street corners and stores looted and abandoned creates this feeling of dread and sadness because of how clean it looks in comparison to how it would look in later seasons. Its so fresh into the apocalypse that. It all is. Also the portraits of the characters hammers in that feeling of tragedy because it's easy to imagine all the portraits lying around now abandoned houses of people who are now dead.
