You might already be using the Wiggle expression, but are you sure you understand exactly what it's doing? In this tutorial I'll walk you through exactly how the Wiggle expression works, as well as the Random expression, and when you might want to use one over the other.

Just wanted to return and give a huge thanks to you for this video. This video was the start of me learning about wiggle and random which started me on the path to learning to animate graphics and create the graphics in my latest video. Anyway, you're a hero. Thanks so much!
Hello Jake, I'm brazilian and unfortunately we don't have much tutorials on After Effects in my country. I'm learning so much with you. Thanks for being so awesome!
Thanks Jake. When I have AE questions I ALWAYS check out your tuts because you create clear, accurate, fun and concise tuts.
Facts.
Really cool tutorial. Not only touching on the wiggle expressions, but also learning how to apply a vintage effect. Thanks a million!
Wow, I love how you visually explained an expression, been watching tutorials for 10+years, this is a first. Very well done!
Thank you!
Wow ! This is quite a valuable, info-packed tutorial, it was truly informative and easy to follow and understand due to your clear and concise way of demonstrating what you're saying 👏
Thank you for sharing this amazing knowledge with us. Wish you all the best, keep up your awesome work 👏
Love it! Been enjoying binge watching your tutorials on effects recently. The last effect I've been using for a good long while, you can make it simpler by just putting using a time expression in this case. Just time*(amount of changes per second). I'm most fond of time*6. This way the random seed will just keep rising until it reaches its limit (which I believe is 100,000). I've not had a comp long enough to reach the limit just yet. I believe it would have to be about 4.6 hours long!
Just here to say this is pure gold.
Thanks Jake.
Great stuff Jake; clear and concise and complete. You've got another new subscriber.
So many tutorials packed into one, thanks for making this Jake
What kind of hero you are Mr. Jake? Thanks for all these videos. I've a fear of missing out your videos because I've been waiting for a good time to binge watch. Give me a promise, if you delete them from here, send me a private link to reach them. Gotta go, thanks!

Hey Jake thank you so much for being on CZcams, I really liked your explanation and your tutorials are great. I liked the demo animation but I doubt that was made by a wiggle expression only , there is kind of bounce effect I guess ! am I wrong !!
You're right! That was just done with motion 2's excite feature, which adds overshoot to any animated property.
great place to learn AE.. I want more :)
Thanks man :)
You are really awesome.
really i am learning a lot from you.
No, you're awesome.
Hey Jake could you make a detailed tutorial on toComp() and fromComp() expressions. I heard that will open many creative possibilities to MO artists.
I love you.
this is sick
THANKS
Hi Jake, I was wondering if there is a way to ease out a wiggle expression so that the property goes back to its original value and stays quiet. (?)
Always thankful for your tutorials!
Thankyou
holy shit you need more visits, amazing explanations bruh
I used wiggle(0.5,100,1,15)
to get a smooth wiggle for velocity expression especially for balloon effects
Thank you so much for this! This comment has been such a life saver!!
Is there a way to make expressions revert to their start position at the end of the sequence? That would make them loop.
Life Saviour....
Love it (100,100) ;)
Well done =)
its so helpful to know wiggle contains all dimension
Ok. Jake where were you all this time? Man you really know how to teach. Thank you. Ps. Do you have any AE course?
Thank you! I've been on Skillshare, check out my courses there - Skillshare.com/jakebartlett
Hey Jake! I love your tutorials! What's your opinion about animation composer plugin?
I think it's super handy when you need to apply motion quickly and still be able to adjust aspects of the motion!
