SHINee debuted as Japanese artists in 2011 and they have Japanese versions of a majority of their songs, plus, as you just heard, tons of songs that are exclusively in Japanese. SHINee are one of the most popular groups in Japan, even ranked above many Japanese artists. And just like BoA and TVXQ before them, SHINee are part of Japan's mainstream music scene. Most Japanese citizens don't even consider them foreign artists. They spend about 50% of their career in Japan, so they are fluent in Japanese and they have just as many Japanese albums and songs as they do Korean. Therefore, when SHINee holds a concert in Japan it's almost entirely in Japanese. They don't even need translators when they interact with the audience. SHINee are so popular in Japan that Japanese news and entertainment companies will send people to Korea to interview them when they have a scheduling conflict and can't go to Japan themselves. And, SHINee are one of the few acts that are actually asked by the Tokyo Dome concert promoters to hold another concert there. Most people have to ask to hold an event at the Tokyo Dome, but with SHINee, executives actually contact SM and ask them to please hold another event there. As you may know, the Tokyo Dome is one of the largest concert venues in Japan, which holds 55,000 people, and there is an unwritten rule that in order to get permission to hold an event there you have to be able to fill it to capacity. SHINee are such big-name artists that they know they will have no problem selling out within minutes of tickets going on sale, and most likely they will have to have multiple day events because fan demand will be so high. SHINee has even held fan meeting events at the Tokyo Dome that weren't even full concerts and were still able to sell out. Which just goes to show you, how popular they really are.

SHINee is considered a home artist for the Japanese a long time ago they stop being seen as foreign artists, and it's kind of fair because every time SHINee makes a full album in Korean they will make a Japanese one too in Korean we have a lot of EPs but in Japanese we have many singles that I believe are very balanced Edt: from their debut in Japan 3 years and 1 month after Korea debut SHINee is one or if not the most loved Korean group in Japan, you will see on the SHINee Day 25\05 five symbolic towers in japan it will be lit up with the SHINee colour Tokyo tower, the Sapporo TV tower, the Nagoya TV tower, Kobe Harbor tower and the Fukuoka tower. Each tower is a symbol of the five cities SHINee visited many times and you see how much SHINee is loved and respected in Japan I love all of their songs in Japanese I don't have one that I just like I really love all of them in Korean I have maybe 5 that I like but I don't love it doesn't happen in Japanese songs

It's a miracle! Actually, surprisingly, all of SHINee's Japanese discography is on Spotify (and probably also Apple Music)! At least here in Europe, but I am certain my US friends said its the same in the US. Only the full albums but they usually have all the single songs. They also kinda changed their approach on the Japanese MVs recently, thankfully. SM is just uploading their Japanese MVs in full on their official channel now.
SHINee Japanse Releases are some of my absolute faves. DxDxD, Breaking News, Your Number. My daughter showed me all these when I first got into KPOP. SO GOOD.

Those 'visiting the fans/audience participation' songs are never the end of the concert, they are part of the more relaxed hype bits of the concert. SHINee usually end on a ballad and often afterward a long thank you and good bye statements. Minho usually leaves the stage last ^^
I just realised that I also haven't watched the Downtown Baby MV all this time OMG! There are a few Japanese TV performances that are also worth watching in my opinion. DXDXD is a super stylish MV, I just can't get enough (played it in an endless loop last week as I just got my album too). They had 3 sets of different uber gorgeous outfits. Now I need to see SHINee's leather jackets making a comeback. Your Number & Kimi No Sei De are a must if we're talking about their Japanese discography. Melody & Become Undone are also beautiful. Too bad there are only fancams of these two beautiful songs, but worth to check out because their vocals there are top-notch

You should see the behind the scenes of SHINee filming "Get the Treasure," czcams.com/video/pQcqxrSdgz8/video.html. I think you might find it interesting to see what was actually real people who were made to freeze in the scene, what was real set pieces and mannequins and what was CGI. You would be surprised that some of those people who you see frozen were real actors who were rigged by wires to look like time had been stopped in mid air, etc. You also really need to see SHINee's live performance of "Get the Treasure" from an SMTown concert in Japan. Since SHINee's iconic "Odd Eye" Inkigayo comeback stage performance, czcams.com/video/pPp9da0-Q_E/video.html, I think Key has decided that an eye patch makes him look really cool, so he brought it back for "Get the Treasure." :D But also an eye patch makes sense in the storyline because SHINee are supposed to be thieves -- they are there to "get the treasure," which is the big diamond that Jonghyun takes from the glass case. (A diamond is SHINee's symbol, so they are stealing the treasure -- the diamond -- which represents the hearts of SHINee's fans, Shawols.) Fun fact: Pirates didn't just wear eye patches because they injured one of their eyes. But eye patches were more often worn by thieves who had perfect eyesight. An eye patch helps you to see better in the dark or in low light. If you shield your eyes from bright light, when you enter a dark room and remove the eye patch your eyes adjust more quickly to the dark. This allowed pirates and thieves to be able to see better and be able to get in and get out more quickly as they go from bright daylight to darkness of a low lit room or hull of a ship, etc. An eye patch is a more practical device then you might think. ;P And as we see in Taemin's MV "Criminal," Taemin has decided to borrow Key's eye patch as well. ;) We all know Taemin "broke into" Key's house and stole clothes from Key's closet while Key was in the military, so he must have taken the eye patch too. (LOL, just kidding. Key's eye patch is way different than the one Taemin wears for "Criminal.") And as you may know, when you hold SHINee's lightstick up to a solid surface you see that the reflection it makes is a 5 point star -- each point representing one of the members -- so that is one reason why you see them make the star shape on the floor as part of their choreography in this song. And it's also why you often see references to stars in things that SHINee does, because they SHINe(e) like shiny stars or sparkling diamonds. You see the helicopter because, if you notice, the stage has a giant H on the floor which is the universal symbol for the designated place a helicopter lands. They are dancing on the helipad waiting for the helicopter to show up so they can make their escape -- they blew up the car, so they need a different way to get away LOL. If you notice the spotlights that are on them at that moment are actually flashlights being held by FBI agents who are trying to arrest them for stealing the treasure. This was SHINee's 5th full length Japanese album and the album was named Five so that is just one of the numerous reasons why they say "This is SHINee 5" in the song. This song and album was promoted right after their "1 of 1" album which was their 5th full length Korean album. They pretty much follow every Korean comeback with an equal Japanese comeback. Sad fact, this was SHINee's last album with Jonghyun.
Shinee has always set the bar so high with vocals dance everything, not many groups can keep up with them, though there is alot of awesome groups out there, love these guys so much
YASS!! japanese live concert are the best! they have been in jpop since 2011 so they're discography is massive. downtown baby is performed while they're having fun with the fans, throwing signed balls around the stadium. its a way to take a break too from those heavy dancing they did prior 😅. sunny side in the fanmeting was so emotional since it was in 2018 so the pain of loss is still fresh for the boys. you can feel the emotions while they're singing. its them saying there's going to be a sunny side after the rain 😢 dxdxd and get the treasure are those bop songs that are made to be performed live in a big stage. the dancing, staging and vocals always make the crowd go wild. i hope yt won't bl0ck this 😖
The full MV version of "Downtown Baby" is blocked on CZcams, just like most of SHINee's Japanese MVs and most Japanese MVs in general, for the same reason why Japanese songs and concert performances are more likely to get copyright strikes, etc. In order for Kpop groups to promote in Japan, Korean companies partner with Japanese music companies and promoters. Traditionally, most Japanese MVs released outside of Japan use an abridged version of the song and MV. I think It's part of Japan's marketing strategy to make you buy the song or album in order to hear the full song. So, most of the time, to hear the whole song you have to see it live in concert or listen to the studio version.
I was super obsessed for a while with dxdxd onew, watching him in slow mo was too much.😳 I feel that I leave a similar comment everytime you watch shinee japanese music but once again; Shinee's japanese music makes happy, it's super fun.

Jinki just came out today with Kira Kira, a Japanese cover and it's soooo gorgeous! It's on Spotify and Itunes. On July, his Japanese solo album comes out too. Watched it on CZcams! Yay! I prefer their Japanese ballads. My fav fast number Japanese songs are Kimono si Dae (hope I spelt it correctly) and the very best, in my list is Your Number. The choreography is fantastic! Every single one is vocally exquisite.

Even though that song was obviously recorded & filmed before his surgery, it was still new to fans.

Yay!! I'm loving your reactions during this SHINee Month! Thank you! I haven't seen the whole musica video so thanks for that too!! I always have a predilection toward their japanese tracks, especially their ballads. To me, the SHINee's japanese tracks have always a euro-pop flavor to it. And I do think they do a better job at catering to the member's own voices better. Minho seems to sing more on them, Key too. I just think they are better balanced without sacrificing any quality!

Since SHINee's iconic "Odd Eye" Inkigayo comeback stage performance, czcams.com/video/pPp9da0-Q_E/video.html, I think Key has decided that an eye patch makes him look really cool, so he brought it back for "Get the Treasure." :D
But also an eye patch makes sense in the storyline because SHINee are supposed to be thieves -- they are there to "get the treasure," which is the big diamond that Jonghyun takes from the glass case. (A diamond is SHINee's symbol, so they are stealing the treasure -- the diamond -- which represents the hearts of SHINee's fans, Shawols.)
Fun fact: Pirates didn't just wear eye patches because they injured one of their eyes. But eye patches were more often worn by thieves who had perfect eyesight. An eye patch helps you to see better in the dark or in low light. If you shield your eyes from bright light, when you enter a dark room and remove the eye patch your eyes adjust more quickly to the dark. This allowed pirates and thieves to be able to see better and be able to get in and get out more quickly as they go from bright daylight to darkness of a low lit room or hull of a ship, etc. An eye patch is a more practical device then you might think. ;P
And as we see in Taemin's MV "Criminal," Taemin has decided to borrow Key's eye patch as well. ;) We all know Taemin "broke into" Key's house and stole clothes from Key's closet while Key was in the military, so he must have taken the eye patch too. (LOL, just kidding. Key's eye patch is way different than the one Taemin wears for "Criminal.")
And as you may know, when you hold SHINee's lightstick up to a solid surface you see that the reflection it makes is a 5 point star -- each point representing one of the members -- so that is one reason why you see them make the star shape on the floor as part of their choreography in this song. And it's also why you often see references to stars in things that SHINee does, because they SHINe(e) like shiny stars or sparkling diamonds.
You see the helicopter because, if you notice, the stage has a giant H on the floor which is the universal symbol for the designated place a helicopter lands. They are dancing on the helipad waiting for the helicopter to show up so they can make their escape -- they blew up the car, so they need a different way to get away LOL. If you notice the spotlights that are on them at that moment are actually flashlights being held by FBI agents who are trying to arrest them for stealing the treasure.
This was SHINee's 5th full length Japanese album and the album was named Five so that is just one of the numerous reasons why they say "This is SHINee 5" in the song. This song and album was promoted right after their "1 of 1" album which was their 5th full length Korean album. They pretty much follow every Korean comeback with an equal Japanese comeback. Sad fact, this was SHINee's last album with Jonghyun.

downtown baby is performed while they're having fun with the fans, throwing signed balls around the stadium. its a way to take a break too from those heavy dancing they did prior 😅. sunny side in the fanmeting was so emotional since it was in 2018 so the pain of loss is still fresh for the boys. you can feel the emotions while they're singing. its them saying there's going to be a sunny side after the rain 😢
dxdxd and get the treasure are those bop songs that are made to be performed live in a big stage. the dancing, staging and vocals always make the crowd go wild.

The full MV version of "Downtown Baby" is blocked on CZcams, just like most of SHINee's Japanese MVs and most Japanese MVs in general, for the same reason why Japanese songs and concert performances are more likely to get copyright strikes, etc. In order for Kpop groups to promote in Japan, Korean companies partner with Japanese music companies and promoters. Traditionally, most Japanese MVs released outside of Japan use an abridged version of the song and MV. I think It's part of Japan's marketing strategy to make you buy the song or album in order to hear the full song. So, most of the time, to hear the whole song you have to see it live in concert or listen to the studio version.

SHINee japanese realases are really good althought for me they are totally a different vibe from the korean releases, some of them are a hit or miss for me but one thing I can say for sure is that SHINee japanese ballads are the absolute best, Moon River Waltz is always gonna be my abdolute favorite.

Yay!! I'm loving your reactions during this SHINee Month! Thank you! I haven't seen the whole musica video so thanks for that too!! I always have a predilection toward their japanese tracks, especially their ballads. To me, the SHINee's japanese tracks have always a euro-pop flavor to it. And I do think they do a better job at catering to the member's own voices better. Minho seems to sing more on them, Key too. I just think they are better balanced without sacrificing any quality!
