For us to join the heavenly choir we had better start to sing and deport ourselves like the angels NOW. May God help us.

Pastor, thanks for sharing! I had a similar experience at a local SDA church, but your experience was more extreme! I had to leave durng the dancing, loud drum playing, and repetitve praise singing. It became spiritually oppressive, and I did not sense the presence of the HOLY SPIRIT - I had to escape!

It is a crying shame to see what has been allowed to enter our sda church i witnessed one of our conference leaders preaching that it is impossible for anyone to stop sinning before christ returns all these things along with music are going to fill our churches it is sadly prophesied blessings from tasmania

I think a lot of old people need help too. In fact some of the most fervent leaders in the church are young people.

According to the Bible, not cultural preference, why is syncopation or polyrhythms inherently evil or demonic?

Does the bible say specifically that we shouldn't smoke cigarettes? No, but we know that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we are to take care of it.
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" 1 Corinthians 6:19 KJV
Yes, the context around that verse is about sexual immorality, but Paul is calling our bodies the temple of the Holy Spirit, if it was ours to do whatever we wanted with, why does God give us a list of clean and unclean meats in Leviticus? Does the Holy Spirit want to dwell within us when we fill ourselves with filth?
Worldly music is no different. Does Scripture have a definitive no on certain music styles? No. But if the world (which Satan is the prince of) listens to various music styles, where you often hear things like "just lose yourself in the music," does that mean that we as Christians should partake?
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:2 KJV
We are to be set apart from the non-believers. I'm not saying we aren't to love and share the gospel with non-believers, but I'm saying Jesus sat with sinners, but did not partake in their sin.
Should we really be of a worldly mindset that says to "get lost in the music" or "just feel it, let go of all your worries."
"Be sober, be vigilant, for your adversary the devil walketh about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." 1 Peter 5:8 KJV
There's a reason traditional hymns aren't full of syncopation or polyrhythmic beats.
"Therefore, to him that koweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." James 4:17 KJV
Conviction falls upon each of us as individuals at different times in our lives, we're not all the same. Some may feel that it's not inherently evil, but the more we pursue Christ, the less appealing worldly things will be to us. I, personally, haven't watched television or movies for the last 5 years or so. Why? Because the more I read scripture and pursue the will of the Father, the less appealing the worldly entertainment is. It's mocking God half the time anyways.

I was going to blame the Pentecostal style of music that has crept into black majority SDA churches on the racism that has led to black members feeling more at home in church branches where few white members are present. So I am surprised to learn the music issue is not new.
But you sounded quite angry about that camp meeting where you were asked to preach. So I am guessing you found yourself at a black majority camp meeting where the young people were singing and moving to black Pentecostal music that isn't that welcoming to straight-laced white men, yet the SDA church was founded by white people !
So I suppose you have a point about Protestant 18th & 19th century hymn music which black people are quite happy to sing along to. But on the other hand you leave non-English speaking SDAs to worship in a style that suits themselves.
