In all honesty I can say that you are the first reactor (and I watch quite a few) who turned the menace-minister-bar around and said that Eminem was a minister to some of his listeners, while a menace to others (like parents). I like it! I always *felt* like he was saying that, but never put it to conscious words, not even in my mind. So thank you for that catch!
He has a few very amazing verses or songs that mean a lot to me and others and to him, too (I suspect). But what makes this one stand out is, for me, the perfect blend of emotions - talking about Proof (I think that's his main best friend. God is second fiddle to Eminem), dropping bars, cadence and the way he builds up the tension until he culminates at "he'll be waiting at the gates when you get sprayed up sending you hoes up to deal with my..." and then Yela kicks in with "Best Friend!"
That's what makes it the perfect one for me. The tension, the build-up, the production, the emotions, the mystery (is Eminem talking about God? Really??? - ah, nope, still talking about Doodie/Deuce/Derty Herry/Proof), all set into the mellow country-feel of Yelawolf's singing.
I saw an interview (or read it?) with Yela about this verse and he was asked if he felt like his song was 'stolen' and he said Hell naw, this was exactly what he'd had in mind with this song. Especially the duality with God and Eminem's personal higher power. I hope Yelawolf got mad money from this song!
So, what did you miss: Nothing much, really. If you are familiar with all the alias of Proof, there were hints earlier before he said his name that showed who he was talking about. "Clint Eastwood looking for peace" - one of Clint Eastwoods most famous characters is Dirty Harry, and Proof was also called Derrty Herry (mind the spelling... I'm not that stan-ified yet! ;-) ). Also the deuce-line refers to them calling each other Deuce/Doodie. But yeah, I think you found everything.
BTW, did anyone ever tell you that you have a really nice voice? Smooth and soothing. And the way you get happy and excited when you find a particularly nice bar makes watching you that much more enjoyable :-)
Oh, one thing (although nothing you really 'missed' per se) - when he says he's the black sheep, that's really funny since he's basically the only white sheep (or one of few) in hiphop ;-)
