Vinnie combines phenomenal punch and dexterity with super clean technique. What a tremendous touch and feel, AND he can play so many varied styles! He is a brilliant musician.
The way vinnie manipulates the time with his phrasing to make it sound like the tunes slows down and speeds up is mind blowing! One of my all time favourites!
I would love to slow this down and study it for hours. It would still take me years to master. What finesse. The first time I heard him was when I was 15 in 1983. I bought "Shut Up and Play Your Guitar". My favorites were "Hog Heaven" and "Five-Five-Five." I'm just now picking my jaw off the floor. What a monster.
Great post Thanasis!..... The ALWAYS FANTASTIC Vinnie with the outstanding Herbie and Christian!!!!!!!....Thanks! Vinnies playing/sound/feel & technique is "distinctive" VINNIE, and, THAT IS WHY "HE" continues to hold "HIS OWN MUSICAL/DRUMMING VOICE & APPROACH" for all these years!
He’s definitely a genius. But he’s a premiere L.A.session drummer. Those people are amazing sight readers, and all the top session drummers are comfortable playing on Film score sessions, Rock, Funk, Jazz etc. The job is based upon being versatile and getting the job done quickly. There are so many great drummers in L.A. And they are great live performers. These are the cream of the crop. And these guys practice everyday. They are disciplined. But I am in complete agreement with you about Vinnie. For my money he’s the best all around drummer at this point in time. His talent is absolutely stunning. I remember seeing him with Zappa many years ago when he was very young. Then I saw him with Jeff Beck about 20 years ago. He was amazing. And the stuff he’s done with Herbie Hancock in the last few years is mind boggling. The older he gets, his playing gets more inventive and so strong. For me it’s Jack DeJohnette, Marlon Simon and Vinnie.
@@ricardofranciszayasJeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's is an incredible show. World class musicians all at the top of their game. It's absolutely mind blowing.
I can't think of another drummer who has played with such a wide variety of artists and musical styles. Most guys stick to a particular genre but Vinnie can do it all.
Yeah, he's really a special talent, and has been since the late 70s. He certainly has that Steve Gadd relaxed solidity and total mastery of the instrument in all syles, plus all the extra insane Vinnie rhythmic ideas and chops. Over any narrow range of styles, there are obviously a lot of great players, but over the whole gamut, Vinnie has been my favorite since the Zappa days.
I watch a lot of drummers doing crazy shit but when I watch Vinnie or Dave they have something special that only they possess in their sound and technique
Colaiuta é incrível um monstro, referência máxima na bateria, mas incrível como o Jazz é uma lingua diferente, que requer um timbre diferente e um jazz player tocando em vez de um música completo como é o Colaiuta. Simplesmente não soa como tem que soar
Maybe not. I'm not one of them but I'm not gonna like this vid. The man is incredible, ok. But there's no jazz feeling here. And no jazz sound either. His drum kit sounds rock and he plays rock fills.
@@peteshifter please, by all means, post a video of yourself playing jazz fills on your jazz sounding drums with all of your jazz feel. Vinnie is arguably one of the most versatile and best all around drummers alive today. HH does a lot of jazz fusion and even some heavier “rock” sections within his tunes, so the drummer would have to have a kit that would accommodate all of HH’s stuff. Should he have 3-4 different kits on stage? Nope. Clearly HH is completely ok with Vinnie’s playing and drum sound, since he’s been calling Vinnie to tour with him for 20+ years, who are you to say it’s not ok?
Wow as a music teacher that I am for so many years already, I just have something to say, simply so awesome 👏,, his jazz drumming, again, is simply so awesome, congrats🎼🎼🎼🎵🎵🎵🥁🥁🥁🥁‼️
DRUMatthias - Sure looks like Christian. 3 titans of music. Both Vinnie and Herbie don't get enough credit for being so versatile in every genre. Same with Tony Williams. Tony wasn't just a jazz drummer. I'd put the Tony Williams Lifetime with Allan Holdsworth up against any fusion group.
@@PedroPetracco there’s no question a “Jazz sound” is vast! Did Tony Williams have typical “jazz sounding drums” not at all and he was one of the greatest to ever play.
Vinnie's ability to hit hi-hats, opened or closed, cymbals without the kick underneath - sounding so good, blows my mind every time. If most people attempt it, it sounds like a mistake or slop.
I always wanted to copy his snare sound. It sounds like power, aggressive and punchy especially when they put slight reverbs on it on his recorded tracks!
Audience almost pushing against the stage and watching a stagedoor waiting for Vinnie. Got a tap on the shoulder and Vinnie walked through the audience carrying his cup of coffee. 😆
One of the greatest of his generation, and his drums always tuned to perfection.

Vinnie's Craft to put the accents in the place he wants is unique and amazing!!!!! THE ONLY ONE COLAIUTA!!!!!!!
Omg!! Will this man ever cease to amaze me?! Vinnie is definitely one of the greatest!
Freak of nature...one of the most gifted in the history of the instrument

I Saw Vinnie in LA 93, Now he still playing Unbelievable n Vinnie So Wild But Smooth Sound He did it👌👋💪
He can play divinely any kind of music. Amazing
Watching Vinnie playing Jazz...and then listening an entire album with Megadeth where Vinnie's playing Heavy/Thrash Metal hahahahh.Amazing Vinnie
Great to see Vinnie from a side view . His technique is superb!
An absolute beast on the drums
Such beauty in his performance, especially those last few notes. Just Awesome!!!!

Tony Williams was in another league called "out of this world"!

Well put. From todays drummers definately check out benny greb, hes got the technique, the sound and the soul = everything

Troppo fusion per essere un batterista jazz ,tuttavia è sempre di ottima qualità.
He's great but always plays with fusion sounds, I'd like to hear him play with an old style jazz drum kit.
I'm sure he would be amazing all the same
That's why he's Vinnie. And you're not. He's known for his uniqueness.
Check out Vinnie with Chick at the Blue Note Tokyo. A little more traditional there, maybe lol!
He recordered with Megadeath. That surely sounded different.
👍🏻
Xevious, I agree 100%. Moreover, he’s mostly just showcasing technique here. A waste if you ask me.
