Thanks. I'll emphasize I'm not an expert ..... this is just the way I do stuff.

Thank you for making videos! My medaka arrive next week! Would love to see how you raise them and what foods you feed!

I'll try to do a video on fry management soon. I feed fry only with powdered fry food e.g. Hikari First Bites or anything similar ..... I don't bother with green water, infusoria, paramecium, daphnia, brine shrimp, etc etc. I feed juveniles and adults only with the cheapest flake food I can find which has over 40% protein and floats. My medaka are outdoors so I assume they probably get enough live food ... maybe medaka indoors would benefit from added live food. Contrary to common advice that medaka are omnivores, I personally think that they are, in effect, carnivores so both fry and adult food needs to have protein greater than 40%. Note that some food (e.g. for goldfish) may have protein less than 35%.

I regret that my camera shots for this video were not very good. I don't have the patience to edit or repeat the filming but I'll try to improve the next time.

How long can the eggs stay out of water during the cleaning process?
This is all very timely and helpful information! My eggs should begin hatching in the next few days.

My guess is that eggs may be OK for an extended period of time out of water provided they are kept damp. I've heard somewhere that they can be sent through the post wrapped in a damp piece if cloth and sealed inside a plastic bag ..... but I've never heard of anyone actually doing that. Keeping them out of water for a minute or so while cleaning should not be a problem ..... anyway I'm happy doing that.

Thanks for the video. I've heard its illegal in the United Kingdom to keep Medaka outdoors. Are you aware of this?

Hi, thanks for the comment. Sorry, I've not heard anything about that. However I think there are very long lists of similar prohibitions of plant and animal based items in many countries. However these lists are often so obscure and hardly promulgated that most people are unaware of what may or may not be prohibited.
