    In my case, I had one burner flaring up badly. Thought it was rusted through but after pulling out and inspecting it, it looked ok. When I looked inside I saw a dense spider web that was blocking flow. A small twig and some compressed air and voila! back to grilling! Thanks for the "how to". really helped with disassembly.

    Hey man thanks! Think you are going to get my wife out of a tizzy for not having her gas grill and, "I'm just going to get a new one." I take it the parts should not be too hard to obtain.. Lastly, ours did have not a factory fitted cover which was a big mistake. We tried an aftermarket and the wind just ruined it. I think the fitted cover will retard a lot of moister inside the grilling unit. Again, thanks for a nice post.

    • @JONSDIY
      @JONSDIY  Před 3 lety

      Use a pair of plyers to widen them and then put a kink on the ends so they grip the burner. It could also be you are not trying to clip it back on to the ignitor that has a shallow concave area to its width. Some (not mine) actually have a specific burner that the ignitor attaches too. Not important where you put that burner in the line up but the ignitor is designed to attach to that one. Non of mine had it but I was told it exists on some of the burners. I was yelled at for not including it in the video. Mine did not have it so I could not show it in the demonstration. Seems to be a change on some of the later models.

    Unfortunately, master forge screwed the ignitors on to the burners and the screws themselves are too corroded for me to unscrew them to replace the burners. The clip was a much better idea. Since I can't just simply remove the burners to replace them, I'm not sure what to do. It seems like I have to replace the burners and the ignitors. And how does one even change the battery on the ignitor?

    Great video. I will do the same in a few months. Mine are not that bad but what did go bad was the grease tray which is some type of thin cheap steel sheet underneath the black bottom of grill. Have you ran into that problem yet?

    • @JONSDIY
      @JONSDIY  Před 4 lety +1

      Diego, so far my bottom is holding up. But I use a grill cover when not in use. I think that is caused from pooling water when it rains. And it accelerates the rust. But that is just my guess.

    • @DiegoAbranReyes
      @DiegoAbranReyes Před 4 lety +1

      @@JONSDIY I have a cover. It's just a small hole in the middle but its spreading. I think it may have happened from cleaning and using water and soap and not completely drying the bottom of water. And what sucks about the bottom tray is that it's bolted in with very small pop rivets.

    • @DiegoAbranReyes
      @DiegoAbranReyes Před 3 lety

      @@jamesnitzberg8405 if the rust gets too bad on the grease pan you have 2 options. 1 is to use a mitter saw or some type of smaller electric saw and cut it out then bolt on a new piece of sheet metal to the bottom with a latch so you can clean it( alot of work I know) or you can replace the entire grilling enclosure which actually the part isn't that expensive when I checked the website.

      Dave, you are correct, the new kit did not come with cross over tubes. I did not re-install the old crappy ones. Second you are correct. Each of my burners can be turned on/off but I need to have the second from the left on to ignite them to get started. Turning only 2 burners on saves gas.

  • @JuiceBanger1

    do you clean/scrape the burnt food off with a wire grill brush or will this destroy the cast iron / coating? ive just bought a char broil and am unsure whether i need to use plastic brush when cold or if i can use wire brush

    • @JONSDIY
      @JONSDIY  Před rokem

      Yes I do use a wire brush. Plastic brush will not get the job done. Anyway, I doubt that a wire brush will do any harm to cast iron. Allowing the grill to sit out in the rain and continuously get wet will allow the coating to rust and start to flake then it does not matter what type of brush you use. Overall, not buying a plastic grill cover will always shorten the life of the iron components on your grill. I always spray a couple of coats on my grates with PAM and let it sit for a while before my first use of the grill.

Allow it to dry and then not only will your food not stick to the grates but they will last 10 times longer. Mine are the originals and that why I did not have to replace them. But if your set on keeping them, I would take them to the garage and grab a grinder and put a metal wire wheel on it and remove the top layer until all look new.

      Yes they were to damaged and did not come in the replacement parts. I explained this in the video and mentioned the notches will hold them still.

      Not really. Mine were so bad I could not put them back on. And they did not come with the new set. So I did not re-use them. Eagle eye there rpatric21!

      Lilly, My grease pan is not a separate part on my grill. It is all referred to as the Firebox in my manual. My grill is model 463436215. But to answer you question my grease pan is 28 inches.

      Thank for letting me know. The one I have is old and the grease pan rusted beyond fixing. I guess I have to get someone to make one for me . Because the grill is still useable. I am just trying to bring it completely back to life. Lol

      @@lillyevans6463 I know how you feel. I hate throwing things away when they can be restored, repaired or just fixed. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe.
