That bit made me laugh so hard because is truly Italian. I don't know where you come from, but I can tell you that many Italian comedians use literally this same joke in their shows!
LOL Same in a Slovak Jewish home! Plastic covering all the funiture but to add to that, that is the upstairs living room. Everyone is in the basement sitting by the wood stove! The kitchen where everything happens, every day.

😂 He’s so right about the eating a little more. I remember my friends Italian grandmother feeding me a HUGE plate of pasta dinner and I I BARELY finished it and when I was done she said, “munga! MUNGA! You need to gain some weight!” And served me another massive serving I couldn’t eat. So when I was done she says...”what’s wrong??? You don’t like my cooking?!” 😂 I practically died eating pasta.

I didn't remember Ray Romano's standup, but even back then, it's obvious how polished and natural he was. I can totally get how some TV exec saw his act and thought "This guy could have his own sitcom!".

Comedy usually ages horribly but this has stood the harsh test of time.
ManicMindTrick He's also one of the best comics of his generation. And Raymond is one of the greatest sitcoms of the last 30 years. Universal appeal.

True to life experiences are always classic. Even if it ages, it will only age because of the difference of our experience due to technology and culture, but the human connection will always remain.

I definitely remember the plastic covered furniture and plastic fruit and a huge picture of Jesus in the dining room. Dinnertime you would see the Italian bread pick food and the vino. lol

My first trip to ltaly visiting a friend's family. La nonna kept refilling my plate, as a well brought up kiwi l kept emptying it and as a well brought up ltalian she kept refilling it. I had no idea of the cultural difference but, remember desperately whispering to my ltalian speaking friend, "how do I make her stop?". Learned my first ltalian sentence, "basta così grazie". Still remember their wonderful hospitality. The second time l went l spent 20 years living there and finally learned the only way to stop people refilling your plate is to leave a little bit. Also, if la mamma of your friend says "prende un altro due" don't fall for it, cos you're getting another plateful of spaghetti.

The show is full of this type of comedy except it's acted out instead of explained but there are a lot of moments when the conversations are similar to his stand up

Jerry Seinfeld was funny early in his career doing stand up but I think there are better stand up comedians out there like Louis CK. As for the show Seinfeld I found it much better than Everybody loves Raymond. But to be fair, Larry David was the genius who made it successful.

Ray Romano's so funny. LOL!XD I know from "Everybody Loves Raymond". I saw the intro for the show and saw a glimpse of the show once when I was a kid. I heard all his jokes and I can see where he's coming from. I mean, getting roped in to a wedding dance, train style, when your trying to go the bathroom is the worst. Can the dance wait AFTER I use the bathroom?
