SPREAD THE METAL LIKE A PLAGUE!
My first Metallica album was a “Ride The Lightning” long box. Bought it at a garage sale.
I wasn't familiar with Metallica until 1991 when I saw them with Faith No More and Guns And Roses. Faith No More opened, Metallica did the Black album then Guns And Roses headlined. Metallica blew away Guns And Roses, I have been a hard-core Metallica fan ever since
@@StevesStrayStuffI was at the same tour. I thought Guns N Roses was amazing. Metallica was good too.
@@ScubaDiverPicker That was a great a show! I am replaying it my head right now, thanks for the memory!
Great video man!! keep doing CD History related stuff please really dig these videos! \m/
Thank you!
One of my friends said that in highschool he used to cut up the long boxes and put them on his wall instead of throwing them away
I didn't know any of this. I (still) own the Bob Marley Vintage Vault longbox which has four CDs in it so I always thought that was why.
As a CD collector this is very intresting, i started collect in the 90s but i never saw a long box i think. =)
Oh cool!
There were even a few cassette long boxes. In 1986 I bought David Lee Roth Eat Em And Smile cassette tape and it was originally released in a long box where the cover took up the whole box
It'd be cool to see Longboxes come back.
Cd, cassette and some stickers or a pin. Ideas are endless
Awesome topic that is both obscure and nostalgic...I remember buying cd's in long boxes when I first started collecting. I only still have one, it's a novelty long box for a re-issue of Garage Days Re-Revisited
Love your channel dude. Just recently got back into collecting CDs and I’m excited to get back into the hunt for older and more rare discs!
Thank you!
I definitely remember the cd long boxes haha I kinda wish it came back, I remember no one cared for it , I guess I’m too nostalgic
I've always found stuff like this interesting. Great video!
P.S, What would you say is your favorite CD you own?
So many good ones… Left Hand Path, Filth Pig, The Downward Spiral, Bad Brains, World Downfall… may have to update my “Favorite Albums” video!
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack Those are some good ones.... you should totally do that!
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack please do!
I would love to get the pretty hate machine longbox
This was killer, thank you for sharing!
My dad still has a couple of longboxes that he cut so that it was just the front and put it on his wall.
Some include:
Exhorder: Slaughter In The Vatican
Malevolent Creation: The Ten Commandments
Entombed: Clandestine
Alice In Chains: Dirt
Mmmm Entombed…
I never knew about these. Thanks for this very intresting video ! I like this concept ^^
Love that immolation
I don't have any of these and I only found about these recently. I do not remember seeing these ever in the 90's but I was a dolly.
Absolutely fascinating! Had no idea these boxes existed.
Thank you for doing the leg work! I especially like how concise your video is. I don’t share your taste of music, but you have my respect ✊
Today is a good day indeed
Yep I threw mine away lol. Still have my first cd that I got for my twelfth birthday back in 91, the mighty Seasons In The Abyss.
The Danzig I box hung in my wall for years as a teenager.
I bought Ride the Lightning longbox CD I want to say 1987.
I think there cool when they add extra stuff like patches pins etc. but otherwise don't really make sense to me at least.
This had a pin and sticker. Danzig did a similar style package for “The Lost Tracks of Danzig,” it was like a digipak/longbox hybrid with a comic book glued in
Damn I had no idea, I always thought they were just special editions lol
Great content dude! Stay meTal! (big emphasis on the T)
I have my long box of Metallicas Garage Days ep from the 80's that they re-released a couple of years ago
Hm. Never knew these exsisted. Well a new thing to keep an eye out for record collecting
Never seen long boxes in canada😕
They were a US thing
Nice video dude, very informative 🤘
keep up the good work man!! love your videos
Rob Zombie's latest CD also came in a longbox. Although they don't fit too conveniently anywhere in my collection, I would still get others if I ever spotted any I wanted in the wild.
I honestly don't remember those. I don't think I started getting CDs till the late 90s. Neat little piece of music trivia.
Great video! 🤘
Ah I remember you!
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack Haha, you sure do, I am the CD Tower spinner guy 🤣🤣
i really enjoyed this. Great videos!
I just bought the 15th anniversary release of Type O Negative’s Dead Again in long box format. Nuclear Blast now has the rights to that album after SPV went bust. Came with a sticker and a pin!
I have that too!!
That immolation longbox Is fucking awesome dude 🔥
YES.
Like most assholes, I bought hundreds of CD’s in long boxes back in the early 90’s and never thought to save them. Some of them would almost certainly be valuable today, including the REM and David Byrne albums in this video. Damn!
That REM one is cool, makes me wanna buy the album now
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack it’s not the best REM album, but it has some really good songs on it. Losing My Religion was the big hit, but Near Wild Heaven is one of the best REM songs ever. Cheers, man
Ah okay!
Well done informative video man. What was your first metal album? Mine was Helloween’s Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt. 1 on cassette🤘🏻
Underground one? A Blaze in the Northern Sky
I have three long boxes, alice cooper - I'm eighteen, quicksilver messenger service - shady grove, and quicksilver messenger service - what about me. They look great on the wall and im sure are very rare :) great albums 🔥
Alice cooper - love it to death** lol my bad
Longboxes were banned, so cardboard digipacks, sleeves, and gatefolds could flourish. I'm not sure how impactful longboxes were in environmental hazards, but I do know one thing, it didn't stop cardboard from being mainstream for cds at this point in time.
8 months later: I bought a sealed longbox copy of Rod Stewart's Vagabond Heart album and will be keeping the box as the record labels should have promoted instead of demonizing the long box. We wouldn't have these "cheaper" alternatives to plastic jewel cases if they had promoted the longbox for being display items and a holder for the album itself like every box set in existence.
3:34 sometimes that's the case for some of them. No pun intended.
Lol I always forget these exist Hal the time. The only one I really think of is the danzig how the gods kill longbox with the raised artwork. I did have a led zeppelin collection longbox as a kid, no idea what happened to it though
I have a few longbox 3DO games
Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties? ;)
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack I think i'd shit bricks if i ever found a copy of that one XD
Man I always wondered and always forgot to ask. What do You use to rip the CD's onto the computer? And what format etc. You use? Video on that topic would be great but just an answer would be cool for me, best regards from Poland man!
Mainly I’ll do high quality mp4s on iTunes
i love the way "celebrities" complain about a paper container, while flying around in private jets.
good thing those evil boxes were stopped...LOL
Some of them are hypocritical, yes. but I did see a statistic in one of these news reels that said if all the longboxes were piled up, they could circle the equator twice
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack Still, celebrities wear their clothing items ONCE! How many equators would that reach?
I remember long boxes. It’s interesting to look back on them now but they were kind of annoying.
I started collecting CD's and Cassettes back in 1991-92 and I remember that longboxes on both formats. I still got a few like "Hunky Dory" the Rykodisc non green jewel case one with no barcode (Bowie), "Metallica" (Metallica), "No More Tears" (Ozzy), "Automatic for the People" (R.E.M.), "Goo" (Sonic Youth), "Live Right Here, Right Now" (Van Halen), "Use Your Illusion I" (GN'R), "Incesticide" (Nirvana), "Dangerous" (Michael Jackson) and "The Immaculate Collection" (Madonna), sorry nothing interesting or a holy grail.
The GNR one looks cool
i got the deicide self titled album original long box 🔨 my only long box
I did see Immolation on that tour few weeks ago I still need to get that new albums, longboxes look kool pretty lame they’d be thrown away!!!
I saw them in Atlanta, it ruled
The only long box I own is signs of swarms newest album 💿
Thx for hearting my comment man younger newer metal head and the channel is a fun watch keep it up 👍
Ever watched the Mongolian band The HU ?
No
I'm curious as to what your favorite Immolation album is and also does anyone feel like if you take the cd out of the box and display the box on its own it's not authentic or whatever?
Awesome vid dude. I'd love to own a few longboxes one day.
I want that Spinal Tap box
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack Same, honestly.
This is called a longbox
*Hellsing920*
1990s - "people were slowly rebuying their vinyl and tape collections on CD"
2020s - people are slowly rebuying their CD collections on vinyl and tape
Haha right?!
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack hey I'm guilty of it! Great vide BTW. I can't remember who, but one of the bands I follow on BandCamp linked to your video (because they're doing a limited run of longboxes). I'll try and find who it was...
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack it was Gigan! They as re selling a longbox of the upcoming album
🤘🤘🤘
Environmental concerns, eh? What about albums?
Bring Bring Bring
Bring Back The Box
What makes it so wrong?
Lol tucked in leather jacket
My only downside to this video is that it isnt LONGer 😉
ban the box,and creating more plastic jewel case, save the fucking environment?haha, what a f joke
They wanted more digipaks. Danzig did a weird one for Danzig 4 for that reason, and it sucked so bad they made jewel cases for it
