this is true baseball. My brother and I would sit and watch and talk through every pitch of a 1-0 game and leave just as happy as casual fans leaving a 16-15 slugfest. anyone else love small ball?
Without looking it up, I'm pretty sure I saw the Marlins' opening day game in 2003. Pierre bunted on, stole second or took off on a hit and run with Luis Castillo batting, and scored. I was thinking, damn, these dudes are going to be a pain in the ass to play. Then they won the World Series. I'm sure I'll edit this in 30 minutes...
Left handed, fast as hell, can bunt better than anyone, and he never struck out. This man was almost an ideal leadoff hitter in his time, the only thing missing was more walks.
I don't think he would have gotten that close honestly. He was just over 100 the last 4 years of his career and would have had to play like 7 more seasons to get it. The guy I always think of that was surprisingly close is Johnny Damon who ended with 2,769 at 38 years old.
That I agree with. 3,000 like some other people have said is pushing it. I always think of Johnny Damon at 2,769 hits and being done at 38 years old or Vladimir Guerrero done at 36 years old with 2,590 hits. Vlad had hit .290 with 163 hits the year before and still wanted to play.
There's nothing wrong with bunting for a hit. But what bugs me is when teams take the bats out of their best hitters' hands just to move a runner over to second. Especially when it's early in the game!
This era's players wouldn't understand a single thing said in this video. That's why instead of beating the shift, they cried about it to get it banned.

At 2:50 Juan very casually lays down one of the most perfect bunts I've ever seen & doesn't even stop talking
Massive respect for juan pierre. Loved him when he played in los angeles. One of the hardest working ball players Ive seen.
the founder of beast mode
Man, If only Juan played a few more years, he would've had close to 3k hits
I could watch these mini 'instructional' MLB videos for hours and hours
Juan Pierre MVP Baseball 2003 was the best leadoff/centrefielder in the game!
Man him and Luis Castillo were awesome for a few years back in the 2000s. Really liked those marlins teams
Preston Wilson also
I wish I had these videos when I was a kid. Learning the techniques from the best.
That's not how Kent Murphy taught me...
Sike dinger
Csaint taught me to only hit dingers baby is that right cause Kent also taught me that so I think it’s bunting sucks and hit hanger bangers

anyone else love small ball?
absolutely. prefer it over the slugfest. you see the real ballplayer in the low scoring nail biter
100% agree, that's the finesse and beauty of baseball
I'd Prefer The Slugfest
Greg E well a 1-0 game isn't small ball. That's just an amazing pitching matchup. No offense should ever be pleased with a 1-0 victory.
Any game that my team wins is a good game for me
My favorite Marlin. He was a tactician when it came to getting on base and putting pressure on the D scoring some early runs.
Comes out early, checks the lines, checks the grass, prepping.
Mlb network doin big things
My top five player off all time fun to watch growing up
Old video, but great information!!!!

Not even close....I can't even find that game.
Love this guy
I’ll never forget Juan Pierre changing that whole World Series against the Yankees. Once he got on it was all eyes on him
Most underrated lead off hitter ever. Over .295 avg, 2,000+ hits and over 600 SB
Juan is a phenomenal coach I hope he actually is one now
Juan Pierre one time hit me in the face with a fly ball in ST a few years ago
I miss watching Juan Pierre steal bases and the exciting speed

Only struck out 50+ times once?! Man the game has changed.
I can't even talk trash about Juan Pierre because of the '03 Marlins.
Small ball lord
Didn't realize he might've had a shot at 3,000 hits

@@teamwpventure Bill Buckner retired with 2715 hits despite sharply reduced playing time from 1987-90.
great skit
If he played 20 seasons hed have 3000 hits and would be 2nd all time in Steals. Definitely Hall of Fame
Loved Juan Pierre. He's like otis nixon without the high.
Life ⚾️ 💯
THIS MAN IS WHAT THE DODGERS NEED AS A MANAGER. PLEASE ANDREW FREIDMAN 🙏 GIVE JUAN PIERRE A CHANCE
How to bunt: don’t hit a dinger
🙏 PLEASE COME HELP THE DODGERS ....
Could have got 2800 hits if someone would have signed him

Remember he went to Galveston College
the main is to put the bunt down to move the runner over. its a sacrifice. getting on base is incidental.
Thought it said mastering the blunt for a sec...

Ooooh bunt? I thought you said blunt 😂 jk dodgers JP was my favorite
I went to school with him
2000-2013.......14 seasons?
Are you saying that's incorrect?
Never got on an all star team
Best player that never made it All-Star?🤔

I will get the most perfect bunts down in games but they just go foul.
I met him
