I worked for a place that didn't tell me we were responsible for making sure our company utes were working properly and go to their mechanic if anything needed repairs.
Second day, motorbike nearly went up the back of me - no brake lights. He was quite nice about it but I was gutted, especially after calling the boss saying wtf and him saying well of course all maintenance is up to you.
Had a fleet of over a dozen company utes and I'd never had a company car, was only bloody 19 at the time. Checked it religiously after that.
This poor bloke in the video wasn't responsible for maintenance and that's what caused the accident. Why he was on trial for anything but basic negligent driving is beyond me, that careless bitch who owned the company should be in his place.

I found it interesting how the video explained the role of technology in promoting safety, such as electronic logging devices and other monitoring systems.

The video also makes it clear that following these regulations is not just a matter of avoiding accidents but also promoting fairness and equality in the industry.

Someone with 25 years experience and doing most of the time what would be considered hot loads. Deliver yesterday have a more than excellent safety record and risk more than in today's adjusted inflation loads in half million range of perishable if isn't delivered on time. The emphasis seems to be on safety all well intentioned but a bunch of load of crap. The school seems to be left out which has a big role for this crash. Lets say I could teach a driver to down shift in maybe a weeks worth of time just letting the driver drive and sit back shake hands then say our well wish's and this driver is almost certainly guaranteed never be going down any steep hill without brakes. What I would get from it a good conscious someone will go down hill without killing everyone. Brakes are 30% culprit speed and lack of downshift is the rest. Why a school collecting 10k for each entrant not be able to teach just one and only skill needed to learn from killing everyone. Good question. Not mentioned.

Wondered why he didn't gear down. Thought he must've tried and blew out the gearbox, if my brakes failed in a sedan that's the first and only 'back up braking' I'd have.
Just feel sorry this guy has to wear the responsibility as well as guilt that'll stick for life.
All drivers are pushed way too hard. Been a type of chauffeur that worked nights and they would've pushed me through a 24hr shift if I didn't say no after doing 12.
