    I dare to say that Surinamese people speak Dutch better than regular Dutch people. I remember in school (Amsterdam) how their pronounciation sounds more classical and correct.

    • @warpnin3
      @warpnin3 Před 4 lety

      I have often heard Surinamese people say that, but I really don't think this has any basis in reality. I am Surinamese, and I know the kind of Dutch my countrymen speak. "Surinamese Dutch" is different, rather than "better", or else we would win at least some of the language games on Dutch tv.
      The Belgians (to the south of The Netherlands) also speak Dutch/Flemish, and win almost every Language based game on Dutch tv that they participate in. They also often win the televised National Dictee for Dutch speakers all over the world, in which participants have to write down a rather challenging dictation, full of obscure words and expressions and complicated spelling.

When the British took over the others and merged them into British Guiana, people informally called Suriname Dutch Guiana. Just to distinguish them from each other. However since the beginning of the first colonisation it was Suriname.

Indonesia (South Melaku & West Papua included), USA (Pella Dutch, Little Holland in Michigan, Mohawk- & Jersey-Dutch), historically also Guyana (Bernice Dutch, died out in 2012 I believe), Sri Lanka (Ceylon-Dutch), Indonesia (Javindo & Petjoh, nowadays only spoken by Indo's (mixed Indonesian Dutch)), Virgin Islands, Bahamas (N-word Dutch).
