Arm the homeless against the system that put them there. Double bind - they are punished for being homeless by the same system that treated them as worthless and surplus to requirements putting them out on the streets in the first place, it's entirely abusive, so arm them with what they need to protect themselves against their abusers. DOES NOT NEED to be like this.

@@domdadomdom_2733 I don't believe this literally means provide guns to the homeless. Figuratively, you can arm the homeless with: books/knowledge, Narcan, a living stipend, etc. to battle against the demons that made the person homeless in the first place.

Just because it says "Arm the homeless" does not necessarily mean give them guns. You can arm someone with lots of things, most of which aren't traditional weapons.
I'm not against that either though. Firmly in the An-Com camp so you can gauge my feelings based on that. The fact that they equate homeless to "Crazy" shows the system and it's propaganda are still effective.

I saw RATM at Glastonbury Festival 1992 on the Main stage. At the start the field was only half filled with fans then by the 3rd song the whole field was filled with people banging thier heads! It was mental!!!!
I was at Glastonbury that year but I missed that one I think. Flowered Up were freaking awsome though.
RATM is huge in Europe... This was them playing Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands in 1993 after the release of their self-titled debut in 1992... RATM did play Woodstock '99 in the USA... and the Lollapalooza festival tour in '93... but they also played the major European festivals like - Reading festival in the UK... Hamburg Rocks festival in Germany ... Lowlands festival in the Netherlands... etc.
There is a live RATM DVD 'Live at Finsbury Park' in the UK... as well as the concert videos - 'Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium' filmed in 2000... 'The Battle of Mexico City' filmed in 1999.
Rage Against the Machine released 'The Battle of Los Angeles' in 1999 - it was their 3rd and last studio album. They split up in 2000, releasing the covers album 'Renegades'... after Zack de la Rocha quit the band.
They reformed as Audioslave in 2002 and released 3 albums w/ Chris Cornell on vocals.
In 2008, Rage Against the Machine reformed for touring... performing at both the republican and democrat conventions as protest concerts against the overseas wars... They toured on a limited basis until 2010.
In 2016, members of RATM teamed up w/ B-Real of Cypress Hill and Chuck D of Public Enemy and performed Rage songs as Prophets of Rage... They released an EP and a full album in 2017... A 2nd album was recorded and still unreleased after a 2019 tour w/ Avenged Sevenfold was canceled.
In 2020, Rage Against the Machine announced a reunion tour, but it was canceled cos of the covid-19 pandemic... It was rescheduled for a 2022 run of shows. However, during the trek... Zack de la Rocha suffered an injury and the tour was rescheduled for 2023... and then canceled... citing Zack's persistent injury and bassist Timmy C's cancer battle.
In 2024, drummer Brad Wilk went public that Rage Against the Machine was over and would not likely be performing again.
Have you heard "Prophets of Rage" or is that who you were talking about? "Prophets of Rage" has members of RATM, B-Real of Cypress Hill, Chuck D and DJ Lord from Public Enemy.

Funny that you say that about B-REAL performing with a band. It's a group called PROFITS OF RAGE. The band includes all members of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE minus Zach, and on the vocals it's B-REAL and CHUCK D.

"Arm the homeless" is an intentionally provocative and militant statement to grab attention and make people think. The idea is kind of like this: the homeless are the victims of the economic gun to the head of the populace, held by the owners of economic capital. So what if you gave the homeless the tools to fight back and the people exploiting the poor had to be afraid for a change.
It's not a literal suggestion to arm the homeless, but a reminder that some systems of violence are invisible and accepted while others are not. Economic disparity/disadvantage harms and kills countless people all the time, and we feel completely comfortable about that, but the idea of a homeless person with a gun makes us uncomfortable. Some harm is more socially acceptable than others.

I want to talk about this topic with people on the Left, because I would like to better understand their point of view; I am a Libertarian-leaning moderate. There seems to be so much charged emotion around the topic, however, that I don't trust that any conversation would go far without devolving into an emotional frenzy. I don't find that situation helpful in any way. Someday real soon, I hope we Americans can figure out a way to sit down together, whatever our beliefs, and calmly reason together to find ways forward. I'm really tired of all the pointless animosity I see.

RATM is so badass! Growing up listening to rap this band was do easy for me to listen to because Zach Agressive flow was so cool to hear, and all the band members are all amazing . I got lucky enough to see them live back in the day. Always more RATM or Audioslave. Thanks for the content

And Beastie Boys took Cypress Hill on their first tour they also took Public Enemy on their first real tour. All 4 bands have worked together and share a lot of commonalities.

Rage was the soundtrack to my teenage hate of authority. “F🖤ck you I won’t do what you tell me” has been a life-long mantra. I still love Rage!! So glad you’re checking them out BP!!

Tom was copying Woody Guthrie by writing on his guitar. Woody had THIS MACHINE FIGHTS FASCISM on his guitar..

Rage and Cypress Hill were/are good friends that played and/or toured together a lot, esp in the earlier days - I was also fortunate enough to witness both bands onstage together in '95 playing Cypress Hill's "A to the K" together as a switchover track - it was Cypress Hill's last song of their show and Rage's 1st song of their show!
Rage's most hip-hop track is probably "Mic Check" on the 3rd album, my favourite from them though is probably "Without a face" from the 2nd album Evil Empire.
The show is at Pinkpop (festival )the Netherlands 🇳🇱 I saw them in1996 at the same place.
Back in the day Rage performed at a college, Cal State University Dominguez, i think it was. The tickets werent free but if you brought an canned food item to Tower Recorda you got a ticket the show. One of the best shows i ever been to,,thee was a huge pit.

In 2016 2 members of Rage teamed up with B Real to create “super group” Prophets of Rage.
They released a couple of original tracks, but also played covers of some of the major tracks from their respective groups.
Saw them live (at the very 1st T in the Park) in Glasgow (Strathclyde Park) in 1994, they extended their set because Cypress Hill got held up at customs lol and were late, when they arrived RATM and Cypress Hill done a couple of songs together, it was insane (in the membrain, lol, one of tthe songs they actually did together) to this day I think its the most hyped crazy audience I have ever been part of and I ve been to hundreds of gigs and festivals since then.
I will never forget it.
after they broke up, the Tom (guitar) and Brad (drums) formed Prophets of Rage with B Real and Chuck D
I was born in '83 and owned all of RATM's CD's and i DEEPLY regret never seeing them live.

This was in my country, The Netherlands, at the Pinkpop festival. There are many great performances of great bands at Pinkpop on youtube.
Seeing Rage and Wu-Tang on the same tour was probably the highlight of my life.
i saw rage in nyc in 2023 .. zach and the rest of the band sounded exactly the same and performed incredibly... amazing energy at like 50 yrs old lol

BTW a lot of us were homeless as teenagers. I was. Try to wrap your mind around reality. Imagine being 15-16 sleeping under a bridge, in some bushes, on a bench, and feeling completely powerless.

I met the band before their first cd came out. Keystone Palo Alto they were super energetic handing out cassette tapes. Love the band and Zack's energy is epic...I am guessing you know the band was with Chris Cornell in Audioslave?

It's funny that you mention B Real. Tim, Tom and Brad toured with B Real and Chuck D under the name of Prophets of Rage. Great show, but I got to see Rage when they got back together and toured in 2022, that was epic. Too bad they broke up again.
To arm is to empower, to be empowered is to have a degree of control over ones own destiny. Basic needs must be met before a human can develop. mental health, resources to address drug addiction, affordable housing etc a road to stability, empowerment.

I was homeless for a while, and I agree, the last thing they need is to be armed. I found what the need the most is dignity and for people to respect their humanity. I'm disabled and became homeless waiting three years for my disability to go through. Now that I'm "stable", I volunteer my time at the food bank, and talking to people like humans, no judgement. A few kind words can give a bit of hope, and sometimes, that's enough.
the problem is that nobody is giving them those things. so what are they to do? the history of america says arm yourself and prepare for battle.

I am about the same age as you. Rage Against the Machine was my first exposure to rap. It’s why I have always been disappointed with the kind of pop-rap that I have seen from other artists. They just never measured up. Took me a while to realise that RATM was unique.
If you havent already, you should check out Zach with Run the Jewls. Theres also an old video with him and KRS One.
You should totally check the connection between this band and Cypress Hill yo, it'll make so much sense.
Also, 100% agree with the folks sayin Arm the Homeless is a provocative statement to highlight the criminality of homelessness as a thing that exists, like they don't have any representation in society at all and that's pretty shitty, so it draws people's attention to a problem and gets a conversation going. Coupled with the general vibe that goes with RATM I'd argue it's a perfect fit for their style.
