I can't quite get my head around the near-give away prices most sellers are charging. Never happens here in California!---Loved that ceramic cat...I made two when I was in ceramics class (neither of which turned out the way I'd hoped!)
If you have safety belts in the back, you can use them to secure that table from moving. The 3 fold mirror, what a gem! Great to watch again.

It is now considered desirable.
I officially want move to Canada it’s beautiful love the houses and trees it’s so peaceful. The streets have no garbage like here. Plus the prize couple of Canada is there you two are such an asset.

Lead has been used for centuries as a clarifying agent in making glass. In the 1860's the formulas for American pressed glass changed & lead ( began to be removed from the mix & manganese was substituted to make the glass brighter and to act as a stabilizer.
In time, it was noticed that this glass made without lead but containing manganese was found to turn a very light lavender if placed in a sunny window or otherwise exposed over time to (ultraviolet) rays of the sun.. here is a good link, explaining pros and cons of sun damaged crystal.. patternglass.com/this_color_purple_99.htm just some info incase you didn't know.. hope you don't mind..

Hat stand is not old. It was made on the border of Mexico/Texas early 2000s. They made all kinds of wire decorative items. Now out of business. My friend owned a florist and we bought a lot of merchandise from them.
I live on a family century farm site and have been digging in the summers in the old dumps for ceramics and glass. Found a 1/4 pint milk or cream jar that is purple glass. Pretty cool!

That was funny about getting in the wrong truck! That happened to me when my daughter was little. We were shopping and when we went in the parking lot there was an identical van as ours and it wasn't locked. I opened the door wondering why I forgot to lock it and started putting our stuff inside and slowly began to realize everything looked different inside. OMG this isn't our van!!! LOL I was hoping the owner didn't see me thinking I was trying to steal his stuff!

Well kids, this is one of my favs, very diversified bunch of treasures! Old glass that turns purple has manganese in it, which we don't use anymore, but I'm sure you already knew that. I found an old feathered hat some time ago, & pictured your wire hat stand in my mind, another thing to hunt for! Just loved the Stieff, have a couple bears I treasure! 30:40 I bought a set of those candelabras exactly for a gift for my neighbors! I also love that hall mirror! It’s very elegant! We have a lot of steiff because my mom and grandparents collected them and they are spread through the house! They got them when they lived in Germany.
Those candelabras are super nice!!! And Karen is ALL about the Steiff stuffed animals - she loves them. =D

They are tough to find. I bought Karen A BUNCH for Christmas, those were all Ebay and Etsy purchases. I used the search term 'Tim Type Album' and found them that way.

Out of sincere curiosity... (I also have tattoos and such) Do you find some people to be standoffish when dealing with them? Are we evolved beyond those days? I just am so surprised how positive all of your interactions seem to be (even with the older generations). I would like to think that people have moved past that.
I think sometimes people aren't sure about us at first, but then as soon as we start talking with them they quickly realize we are super friendly and outgoing. =)

Shipping is outrageous even within Canada...pet peeve of mine. 😉
Usually about triple what it would cost to send within the USA. For example, i used to buy a lot of vinyl LPs from the US. Within USA, flat-fee shipping for a vinyl LP is $7, as per Ebay. For me to get that same record shipped to Canada is $20-$25 - sometimes more.

Why do the crystal items turn purple after awhile? Yes I linger on ever word you both say. I love Powerade too. Is that crystal scale just decorative?
Hi Patricia. Any old glassware containing manganese, will eventually get a purple hue if exposed to UV (sun light) for a long time. It;'s the manganese in the glass that reacts to the UV light and starts to turn purple. And yes you're correct, the scale is just decorative. Not accurate at all.

Ya I'm not sure what makes the crystal turn, whether there's some magnesium in that too, or if there's a coating over it or something... Karen's pretty sure there's going to be magnesium in the crystal too, to make it turn like that.

LOL We did keep it for several months, but just couldn't make it work with our decor, so we eventually sold it.
Keep in mind, these 'Classics' videos are over 2 years old, and so as we've pulled things into the house, over the years a lot has been sold / replaced. We are always 'upgrading' the collections - as we bring a new piece in, sometimes the least favorite piece in a certain collection has to go. This is how we prevent from becoming hoarders.

Isn't purple damaged by the sun?
Yes I think you're probably right... so here's a strange fact. Scientifically, the color red has a hard time bonding with things - the molecular make up of the color red makes it hard to stick to other molecules - that's why the color red always runs in the laundry etc.... it (the color red) always comes detached from the item it's bonded to - that's why the sun also is able to damage the color red so much compared to other colors - because it has the weakest molecular adhesion to any surface - compared to any other color. (something I learned WAY back in grade 8 science class - and still remember for some strange reason).
@@BargainBarons From what I remember, the old brain doesn't work right anymore, old glass will turn purple in the sun. Some consider this damaged but I prefer the pretty purple. Newer glass will turn yellow...
@@wray1968 Ohhh I see what your question is now. OK so for glass that turns purple in the sun... there is Manganese in the glass. The sun causes the manganese in the glass to turn a purple color.
