One of the first tracks I heard from the world of electronic music as a kid. I keep coming back to this track every once in a while and it still hits the same or maybe even harder!
Sometimes it appears that we're reaching a period when our senses and our minds will no longer respond to moderate stimulation. We seem to be reaching an age of the gross, persuasion through speeches and books is too often discarded for disruptive demonstrations aimed at bludgeoning the unconvinced into action. The young--and by this I'd don't mean any stretch of the imagination all the young, but I'm talking about those who claim to speak for the young--at the zenith of physical power and sensitivity, overwhelm themselves with drugs and artificial stimulants. Subtlety is lost, and fine distinctions based on acute reasoning are carelessly ignored in a headlong jump to a predetermined conclusion. Life is visceral rather than intellectual. And the most visceral practitioners of life are those who characterize themselves as intellectuals.
That is Spiro Agnew, Nixon's vice president, speaking at a presser about the Viet Nam war protests that were ongoing during Nixon's administration. Both Nixon and Agnew were later forced to resign in disgrace. Nixon under threat of impeachment for obstruction of justice and Agnew under of indictment for corruption and accepting bribes when Governor of Maryland.
@@OmniVisionElite Indeed! I forgot I wrote that here 3 years ago, but yes, Agnew hit the nail on the head with that speech. I was 20 when he made that speach.
I remember when this came out not long after deadmau5 was smashing it...big tune. It’s still a banger, the speech during the breakdown was pretty cool.
It pretty obvious that Deadmau5 produced this & Give it up for me. Everything down to the snare are used in some sort of his projects. However both are great
@mijosantillan Visceral means to feel something up close, intellectual meaning consider it at a distance. So it's saying don't live life at a distance thinking "should I, should I?" Just go fucking do it. If you die trying you still lived more than the other guy.
@s0apgun I think you've got it all wrong. Spiro Agnew was commenting on how some individuals during the Vietnam War used a veil of intellectualism to push their own agenda on impressionable youth, rather than letting students make observations regarding world events and come to their own conclusions. You need to listen to the full, unedited speech.
