    And this is what happens when you meet real opponents. They been talking how it doesn't matter which opponents Sakkari was having, she still deserved Guadalajara and wta 1000. Turns out, it does matter. No more Arango, Dolehide, because this ain't such a joke of a tournament. Now she can hope for such tournament again where it belongs, at wta 250, so she should take wildcard for Cluj Napoca.

    This is rather different from Sakkari's usual semi losses because Pegula is indeed the one more favored to win the match. From the previous semi stuck, Maria's usually the one favored to win more after taking a huge scalp in the previous round or just on paper a higher ranked player.
    She still won GDL just fine and if people said smack about it, well, any other seeded that joined GDL were the one losing to the likes of Arango & Dolehide, she didn't, so that's on them
    JPG, as always, is a very great and consistent hitter, she's not an easy opponent to beat in the past 2 years for most of the Tour players. I think Tokyo will be hers in straight set because Vero is less consistent and already drained by Pav, but everything is still a toss up anyway

    • @deusexmachina9776
      @deusexmachina9776 Před 8 měsíci

      it is the same, Sakkari lost. in straight sets. it wasnt even that competitive. Also Maria led their head to head 5 - 3 so Jess wasnt a favorite by much. Jess isnt some unstoppable multi slam champion who is impossible to beat. Sakkari felt the pressure again, unlike in Mexico her opponents weas solid.

      @@deusexmachina9776 Eh, more of a drain issue too. Pegula didn't play a full week and then followed with travelling half the world. And the lead in H2H in this case doesn't really matter tbh because it's not like the H2H of Serena vs Sharapova or Sharapova vs Radwanska and Stosur kind of H2H where one dominates the other (Kudermetova beating Swiatek is a surprise, for example), it's a rather even field between them and it's just the matter of who's in great form and prep better during the matchup

    All the Sakkari haters here are so embarrassing for tennis fans. Sakkari is ranked #6 right now and #9 in the race to the finals. She won a WTA 1000 title and it doesn't really matter if the draw wasn't as stacked as other tournaments- not every tournament is going to be that way. She is among the best players in our sport.
