Shooting 2 Rolls of 35mm Film at the same time!

  • In this video, I talk about a recent experiment where I shot a roll of 35mm color film and a roll of black and white film simultaneously in my Nikon F3.
    It took a few tries, and the results are far from perfect, but it was a neat project to mess around with the past few weekends.

    Hi there. I'm Chris. Film is more fun is a place where I share about whatever busted up old camera I'm currently shooting and tinkering with, or my meanderings in film photography. It would be pretty rad if you said what's up. I'm 99% friendly. Definitely do that. Disclaimer: If you want technical proficiency this might not be the best place. These videos are more like an elderly person navigating a tv remote control. Pretty random and confused.

    It's so cool seeing a CZcams Film Photographer who lives so close to me. I'm just down 83 in York!

    I would try shooting some 100 ISO at 50 or 25, since it doesn’t lose much detail, and trying to push the 3200 to 6400 on development. This is a great idea for doing a DIY traditional bleach bypass.

      Yeah those few additional stops and a larger spread between the films would help the rear film be closer to a proper exposure.

    Loved this video, Chris. Very interesting to see both attempts with matching up the film. Using the leader from 1 roll made the loading better. Amazing results with your Photoshop expertise. I like the different types of light settings you used to get different results. Very cool experiment. Nice job. 🥇 Anthony.

    Dude this is such a wild project, thanks for sharing all the steps. I enjoy seeing the process, the creative problem solving. The second roll of b&w look sooooo creepy. Esp the one at 3:50

      Thanks man! The 99 problems are definitely part of the fun. I'm with on on the black and white images, I think I liked a few of those more than the composites haha.

    This is so cool! I’ve also seen on reddit /r/analog of someone making something like a 120 film but with 2x 35mm one black and white and one color and got a half frame horizontal image with colour and black and white in the same frame, pretty cool!

      Thanks! That 2x35 in a 120 camera sounds like an interesting project! I'll have to search for that and check it out.

      I’ve done similar weird stuff. I’ve rerolled 35mm film with 120 backing paper a few times so I can shoot 120x24 images on a 4x5camera😂

    Fascinating. At first, my thought was “why?”, because one image could be duplicated and one converted to mono in PS for the stacking, but that would be too easy. Now I’m interested in how it works out the next time you try this. For a 3D look, I would think it would work a bit better if you shot the same image twice with the dual layered film, adjusting (physically moving the camera, not panning) a few centimeters left or right for the 2nd shot, then merge the color image from shot 1 with the B&W image from shot 2.. just a thought.

    • @filmismorefun
      @filmismorefun  Před rokem +1

      I agree, you could create a stacked image easily and quickly in PS, but I was after the challenge of trying to do it physically in-camera.
      Cool idea about offsetting the 2 color/blk white shots thanks for the suggestion.

    What about using the Santa Color 100 together with Santa RAE 1000? Both stocks have (in)famously thin support, there's over 3 stops difference between the speed and the b/w film tolerates well pushing and pulling.

    • @filmismorefun
      @filmismorefun  Před rokem

      That's a great idea to try, I haven't shot any Santa film, but it sounds like a good option. Thanks for the suggestion!
