  • A tour for the ceiling fan enthusiasts! Miner's Landing at Pier 57 contains a whole lot of fans, almost all Casablanca, and a few oddities about them.
The front entrance begins on a high note with two "New Orleans Centennials." Pretty textbook, antique brass with oak, K5L five-light (loop-arm) fixtures. Like all but one Casablanca in the building, it uses the "Centennial" aka 'daisy' lead crystal shades, with the closed version of the center shade. These are after the 4/5 flywheel (and blunt-tip blades) and, like most, were installed with 5. I think there were once 4-bladers here, but I can't confirm.
Next is the "Crab Pot," known for covering your table with brown paper and dumping on a heap of seafood. Beware that it's expensive, and has long lines and no view. Here are seven Victorians, polished brass and 4 blade this time, but with oak blades (pointed tip), K5Ls & "Centennial" crystal. These are all Slumber-Quiet, too! The two-light wall sconces are not Casablanca, with an appropriate shell, but use the same shades. The patio has a few plain PB fans with plain 3-light kits, not Casablanca. And here's the first oddity: the back dining room has two Victorian IIs (with the badge blade holders) with 5 blades. One is polished brass, K4S no-arm light, "Centennial" shades. The other is antique brass, K5L light, but plain clear ribbed bell shades, and with the "Passionflower" (open diamond-&-flower) center crystal! Maybe these are just what the dealership had on hand?
Much further back are four... whatchamacallits. I should know, but I just don't. They're trying to look like fans from India, a very vague Marelli vibe (other companies are imitating Marellis splendidly). The cage lights have three LED bulbs, which I've never seen lit, nor have I seen the fans running. One is by the snack bar, the other four are past a large staircase by the carousel.
Then we come to the "Fisherman's Restaurant," which also serves seafood. It lacks the gimmick, but it does have a view and a large patio, as well as a covered dining area that can have one wall opened to the patio. All fans from here on outhave a motor tag containing only "Casablanca Fan Company" and NOTHING else! Just outside the entrance are two strangely-placed Panamas, polished brass, oak blades, K4S lights, "Centennial" crystal. The entrance vestible switches it up with a Delta II, K5L light, "Centennial" center crystal. The restaurant's lower dining room & bar has twelve more Panamas (I miss one in the video) same, with four additional in the covered 'outdoor' area. Most have the "Centennial" center shade, but three of the four 'outdoor' have the "Passionflower" center-- why? There is a rarely-used upstairs dining room without fans.
Last, I venture upstairs, into the currently-closed fast food area, home to the bizarrely-named "Shucky Muckers" burger place (with what appears to be Alfred E Neuman's smirking no-good younger brother for a mascot) along with pizza, a seafood bar, BBQ, and Mexican, and a dining area with a view. The ceiling is quite high up here. Odd style of fan suspension, too!
All fans up here are polished brass, oak, K4S lights with "Centennial" crystal. Above the upper escalator, their heights staggered to match, are two more Panamas. At the top, it's all Delta IIs, four along the aisle, two to the side, and four around the two-level dining area. I wouldn't eat up here unless your kids demanded it; if you want cheap but better-quality, quick seafood, go south to Ivar's walk-up window.
That's all, folks! Miner's Landing at Pier 56. Come for the fans, stay for the food (but stick to downstairs re: the latter!) Questions, comments and corrections welcome.
