A deeper plot insight: in the beginning of the cartoon, we see the alternate timeline where Robert Fulton's experiment failed, so the world skipped the steampunk era. Also, North American colonies lost the war and remained under the British crown. As a result, technological progress went much faster in the British Empire. So the flat screen is quite normal thing in 1950s (not even mention time machines, or advanced technologies like turning into rocket in case of some threat). But then, Casper came and rewrote the history... XD
In the beginning of the cartoon, it's an alternate timeline where Robert Fulton's experiment failed and mankind skipped the steampunk era. So the further progress is based on different technologies - no wonder that people in 1950s could turn into rockets in case of some threat. But then a little ghost came to re-BOO-t the entire history... )))))
Quite usual technology in the timeline we can see in the beginning of the cartoon. Robert Fulton's experiment failed, the world skipped the steampunk era, so progress went much faster. Notice that British Empire won the war in the North American colonies and became the world's greatest superpower - just imagine how different that timeline must be! No wonder that people in 1950s watch the flat screen TV and turn themselves into rockets to escape by air in case of some threat. But then, a little ghost came and rewrote the entire history... XD
At the Stone Age time, I can't believe the woman actually WANTS the guy to pull her around by her hair! No wonder Casper says, "I just can't understand women!" xD
Released in 21st October 1955, this is the last Casper cartoon with the original "Casper the Friendly Ghost" theme by Jerry Livingston and Mack David. Casper cartoons released after this use a new theme by Winston Sharples (which is what you hear here).
Winston Sharples's music is particularly good here, especially just before it segues into the hum of the time machine, giving the film an otherworldly quality. The comedy is standard Casper stuff, but I loved the caveman gag.
I noticed this was made in 1955. I remember seeing this when I was only about 4 -6 years old. But doesn't Casper's time machine strangely look like a modern day flat screen television?
Because in the beginning of the cartoon, we can see the alternate timeline where: - Robert Fulton's experiment failed, so the world skipped the steampunk era - British Empire won the war in the North American colonies and became the world's greatest superpower. As a result, technological progress went much faster, so the modern flat screen TV became normal thing in 1950s. As well as time machine experiments. Also, professors can easily turn into rockets and escape by air in case of some threat. But then, Casper came and rewrote the entire history... XD
That scene where he scares away the British, makes me picture him scaring away the Confederates in the Civil War, the Germans in both World Wars, or even Hitler ("Shame on you, Hitler!"), Booth, Oswald, Chapman ("STOP! Don't shoot the President/John!"). If only....
Or even better this way... Casper: - Hey you, botox bag, stop waging war against my Ukrainian friends! Putin: - CYKA BLYAT, A GHOST!!! 👀👀👀👀👀👀 [dies of fear]

I think i'd be more scared of someone being able to turn themselves into a Rocket than a ghost
