Had sleeping problems for 20 years. Did these steps religiously for a year and it fixed everything.
Same. I have been insomniac for 2 years. Went from doctor to doctor and took all the types of medication available. I feel like I was a guinea pig/lab rat for the last 2 years. Until I finally kept my sleep regime it solved everything. No meds needed.
And then there’s me watching this at 2:40AM!lol
@@chemetron3826 6:59 am me lol, I was able to sleep at 3.15 am but could sleep only till 6.30, now I’m up since then haha
Absolutely correct, I get up at 0430 to start my work 2 hours early (outside labour) so I get more time at home, and I have no issues falling asleep.. I used to struggle to to sleep healthy before
Live in a camper now. I don't need coffee anymore since I'm basically outside all the time. It's fantastic
That's AWESOME!
CONGRATS!
Keep On (Camping) In The (Not So) Free Wooorld, Brother!
@@gabrielutasi it seems kinda cool ngl but I'm not sure I could do it. I bet you get some great views
Trying to sleep FUELS insomnia. If you want to sleep well, accept that you can’t MAKE sleep happen, sleep happens when you stop trying and ALLOW it to happen.
That's not entirely true. By waking up earlier and going out into the sun, you are adjusting your circadian rhythm, allowing you to sleep a bit earlier. Also, just going to sleep in a dark room with no bright light before that gets you in the routine too. Read the book called "Why we sleep" by Matthew Walker, and you'll see that's why Andrew recommends doing that
@@dimitrijekrstic7567 I don’t need to read ANYTHING by Matthew Walker. As a recovering insomniac, I hope other sufferers don’t walk, but RUN away from Matthew Walker and his recommendations. Focusing on getting sleep FUELS insomnia.
And trying to make things just so- Perfect lighting, perfect temperature, no noise, etc.- only makes sufferers more sensitive to waking. Because what do they do if one of those things are out of place? They all slept just fine in the past WITHOUT those things, so why do they need them NOW?
The key to overcoming insomnia is not more sleep, it’s becoming okay with being awake. When we become worried about sleep, we teach our brains that not sleeping, aka “being awake,” is a threat. Our brain goes into high alert to try to avoid wakefulness, and THIS is what keeps us awake.
In my recovery, when I lay down at night, I have to ACCEPT that I may not sleep and then resolve that even if I stay up all night, it’s no big deal. The less I worry, the more I sleep. And I consistently break multiple “sleep hygiene” rules (Look at computer screen, caffeine after 4pm, lay down in bed with no intention of sleeping). When I was following them, I couldn’t sleep.
The nearest I come to sleep hygiene is that have a specific wake up time. So I lay down at night, refuse to look at the clock, and when my alarm goes off, I get up. It’s that simple.
That’s great. Look for Daniel Erichsen, Sleep MD on CZcams. He has the same mindset.
Ya know I always felt like just stepping outside and seeing the sun for thing in the morning helped me to feel better
Try getting up early enough to watch the sunrise, if anything else it's beautiful
@@Rctdcttecededtef oh yes. Nothing like watching the sun come up. When I lived on the beach I love to go out before sunrise and swim way out until I felt like I was all alone just floating in the dark and watch the sun come up. Found that joy to be just enough many a lonely day
@@truthandpower8853 that sounds really nice. I don't live near a beach but I get a nice view from my bedroom window
I feel like this is predicated on you working a standard 9-5 schedule and doesn't work unless you hold those standard hours
He's talking about what the participants of a controlled research study were asked to do rather than giving you "7 STEPS TO FIX YOUR SLEEP CYCLE." Please don't take this stuff out of context and watch the actual video. (This section starts at 9:52 minute mark in the video, so do yourself a favor.)
Watching this at 4.16am 💀
This just gave me some ideas. Thanks man. 😁
I have to try this! Lockdown has skewed my pattern. 🤪
I think the lockdown was more difficult on people than they even realize, subtle differences in lifestyle that have big implications.
It’s a bit hard to wake up 3 hours before my regular time and get sunlight. I’d be waking at 5am.
Thank you
SUNLIGHT IS SO IMPORTANT ❤🙂❤
1. Waking up two to three hours before its comfy.
2. Early in the day light exposure (light in the eyes, i guess. Even on a cloudy day the sky is really bright but our eyes get used to it very fast which makes us think it is dark when its actually bright).
3. Keep sleep and waketimes fixed. No sleep ins. I think fixed waketime is more important than sleeptime.
4. Go to bed 2 to 3 hours prior to your normal bedtime.
5. Limit light exposure during the evenings. Especially artificial lights.
6. Regular daily schedule for the meals (within app. 30 min).
i will try to do this!
I wish you well. I used this method to switch from night shift to day shift.
great thing to watch at 2am
So what about type 2 narcolepsy? What do I do?
I've done cbti programs twice my record is 5 days 2hrs per 24 almost went nuts thanks doc
not sure if the video is sped up or if Huberman took the wrong bag of white powder when baking
Thus is great
What are your thoughts on wake up lights?
It’s 2:30 in the morning and I’m eating a hot pocket. Am I doing this right?
Only if you bit into a frozen part immediately before biting into pure steam
Awesome 👌 👏
Meanwhile it’s cloudy here in -Gotham- NYC.
I think there is really something about it. I'm working since two years a job and I have to get up five am and since then I have really little problems to go in bed ten PM which is very early for me. But eating just on point is something quite impossible for me as my normal eating schedule is to eat when I am hungry and to not eat when I'm not. I think this is the best eating schedule one can have as I am over 40 and have absolutely no belly accept let's say my father and all the other man in my age around here. I'm pretty sure they have the belly because they don't eat when the hungry but thy eat when the clock dictates. But I really love to know that there are ways and measurements you can apply wants your have really big problems with sleeping. 👍
I work 3:30pm-2/4am. Usually sleep 5am - noon.
Very hard to adapt a sleep schedule aorund that & get early morning sun unfortunately
If I woke up any earlier, there wouldn't be any sunlight to absorb
How do you sleep sober? Asking for a friend
Tell your 'friend' that being intoxicated actually reduces the quality of your sleep.
Actually do all the things he just said. Also get a pair of TrueDark twilight glasses to wear at night for light blocking. You'll do it.
Magnesium really helps. Take it about an hour before sleep. Here's a checklist for you:
1. The advice given in video
2. Make sure you're getting exercise. If you think about it, why would the body wanna sleep if it still has unspent energy
3. Have consistent bedtimes and wake times. Your body needs a cycle!
4. Reading before bed also helps me to not think about sleep
5. Don't eat too close to bed time
I'd be waking up at 3:00 am if I were to do tgis 💀
That's the point... fixing a sleep cycle is not about sleeping on time or early, It's about waking up early to then feel fatigue the following night to then fall asleep early naturally.
Sleeping early and on time to only wake up at 10-12am is not going to fix anything, It's only going to shift your cycle to different hours.
what’s the time stamp in the original video
From sunlight only? What if your waking up at 5am ? Can you turn on bright led light?
If I did these, I'd be up at 2 am.
What do people do that live close to the north pole to get enough sunlight. Anyone from Northern Norway or Northern Territories?
If I wake up 2 hours before I normally wake up there won’t be light for 4 more hours lol
Nah when it's summer isha is at 11 almost and you can't go to bed till you pray isha. And you have to wake up for the dawn prayer too. Yes you get less sleep but I might live a day or two or a week or two so for the life that comes after that is ever lasting it's a worthy trade off.
god knows its creation the best. maybe in 100 years people will say wake up when sunrises and sleep when when after isha. science is still learning
Lmao. Look kid, this man here is talking about the one life we certainly know we have. If you want to live that life and be healthy, you can use his advice. You gotta stop confusing beliefs with reality, one exists no matter what you wish for, and the other one not so much
@@dimitrijekrstic7567Sit down with your grudge. Islam has been proven right a million times, its health advices have been proven right as well. This one will be no different, just wait and time will tell. Coming here to argue with God himself I swear 😂
But I get up before sunrise anyways. Should I be getting up at 2-3am?
Can Alba sue the City?
I have the opposite problem. I don’t sleep in or go to bed late and I wake up at 5:30 on the dot every single day without an alarm. But I just don’t feel rested. Ever. I can feel my brain starting to slip away and I’m really concerned. Turning 30 next week.
Do you consume caffine (even small amounts)? Might try cutting it out and seeing if that makes a difference
Regulated eating habits fixed my insomnia but now I have disordered eating habits and insomnia again 😏
I wakeup at 5am so should I start waking up at 3am or 2 am with 5 to 6hr of sleep😑
Umm no sleeping in on my day off 😏
Find a job or routine where you can sleep on regular days then you can sleep in on the weekend MAN DAS TOO EASYY
I have straight Fs in this department
Good to know that I'm f'd, living near the arctic circle.
What if I work night shift and if I wake up any earlier I won’t get enough sleep?
I'm already waking up 5am with red light so I can have coffee ☕️ 6am ahaha
Now wake up 2 to 3hrs early?
So I need to be bed by 8pm .
So where does shift workers come in?
The best advice for shift workers is get off shift. Shift work will take years off your life as your constantly fighting your natural sicadian rythm. You can limit some of it's negative effects by getting enough sleep/rest, exercise, eat well basically outside of shift work live as healthy a lifestyle as you can.
@@bear693 I'm about to go into a job where I wake up at 5 and work till 5. Hoping it fixes my sleep schedule because right now I'm a 4-midnight closer at a restaurant and I can feel the stress in the evening and it's hard to go to bed.
You don't fit in. You never will. Stop doing that work if you want to change that
I work 5pm to 5am and try to have a normal day on my off days, it's hard to do
Had this in my pocket wondering why tf it’s playing over and over again
Got my dumbass
Never new the full form of ‘etc’ is et cetera
lol
Stare into the Sun first 15min and last 15min of the day. No other time. Work up to it. Start with seconds, then build. For me, the blind spot changes colors from red-oygbi-violet. When it turns purple I’m done.
What a coward to only get until it’s purple, I do it until it’s all black
Try to have dinner before 7.30pm. sleep by 9.30 or 10. Wake up between 3.30am to 4am. This practice used to be followed by Indians atleast 200 years back. And now only a fraction of them follow this ( particularly in South India)
Us shift workers are screwed 😴
So 20 minutes of sun tanning in the morning
You know who can do all this.. people who don't sell their time for money..
Get a dog, it will help you wake up
Dogs are pieces of garbage, the neighbor’s dog has been torturing me for 2.5 years from barking EVERY day. You know how many times it ruined my sleep schedule after I desperately fixed it? You know how torturing it is not to be able to sleep without being interrupted 6+ times a night?
Not getting up at 3:30 4:00 AM on my days off sorry just not gonna do it🙄
But it burns lol
I just can't be this robotic. My ADHD is too powerful and I'm not on any meds for it right now. I have a heart condition so they don't wanna give me stimulants, which is what I need. So I smoke a lot of cigarettes and drink a lot of coffee. Which makes me physically feel like shit but it helps me to focus. Otherwise I'm just fkin all over the place.
Routine is the best thing that has helped me channel my ADHD. Don't think of ADHD as a disorder, it's a super power!
Coffee, stimulates, and medication always put me out of whack.
@@zxctgb for example when ever I slip up and have a coffee at work I wont be able to get to sleep till 1 or 2 am, where I usually go to sleep between 9-10pm. Then I wont be able to wake up at my normal 5am.
This is impossible when you’re a mess
Might be jealousy tbh.. if it was older man and young woman
yeah im not gonna wake up at 6 am on weekends :D sorry
This guy needs to cut down on his coffee.
So go to bed 2 hours early and wake up early but also not change the timing of sleep. Weird stuff.
It's exactly about changing the timing of sleep, dafuq are you talking about?
Andrew Shapiro
What's the point of this video?
If you are going to sleep at 11pm-1am and want to change your schedule to go to bed at 8-9pm these are the steps you need to take.
Lol you need to have no life responsibilities to live this way .. sounds like prison schedule
I work nights… sleep days… I never see sunshine unless it’s my one day off and I’m golfing… this is complete bull shit… Im just fine..
Sure, let's call research bullshit since you chimed in with you massive amount of data and a sample size of 1. God damn people are weird sometimes. And btw, according to dr Matthew Walker, about 30% of the population is genetically a night owl.
Maybe you are one of the lucky few who doesn't have a problem but that doesn't mean it isn't true. Studies prove that night shift workers have more health problems than day shift workers.
Best way to fix sleeping schedule is the Islamic prayers, that force you to wake up before sunrise.
I wake up at 3am started red light therapy first thing seems to work.
no sleep in days in crazy
