- How to get the IRS to remove penalties and interest for personal income taxes is very easy. If you are asking how can I get the IRS to waive penalties and interest, this is the perfect video for you.
You need to give reasonable cause. Reasonable cause is an acceptable excuse that is valid in the eyes of the IRS or State.
Please watch this video if you want to know how to get IRS penalties waived. You need to know what are valid reasons for not filing taxes (reasonable cause) and what will work for creating an IRS penalty abatement letter. This is especially effective for first time penalty abatement circumstances.
This video is great for eliminating the late filing penalty or removing the late payment penalty. Surprisingly, this will actually work more often than not so please give it a try because you really don't have anything to lose in making this attempt of the removal of the penalty. So please attempt the IRS penalty abatement!
Saved $1793 in penalties from this video. Thanks!
THAT IS AWESOME!!!! I'm so happy to hear that Maribel!
@@clearvaluetax9382 I called the IRS and qualified for the First Time Penalty Abatement on my 2017 taxes. I received the official letter a couple months later and just paid the remaining interest online.

I got off the phone with the IRS and this video just saved me $450, thank you very much!
Worked for me! Saved $623.00 and my history is Not the best! Trust God in all things!
God bless you and your situation 🖤
This CPA has done tax payers a true service by putting this out for us to learn from. I got a CP2000 and finally did get it figured out. My issue was I never rec'd a K-1 a LP was supposed to have mailed me. And, when one goes to do their taxes all these kinds of tax documents are not entirely recalled by a taxpayer. Thank You Brian for this practical, usable insight.
He gives amazing advice.
Thank you! Got a client today with a $2000 penalty and interest letter. Going to call the IRS!
No lies told here! We do this daily for clients 😅
just a tip for CA taxpayers watching you can request a claim for refund/abatements with the state of CA just takes a little more work/time but it can be done. Also, if you have late filing penalties with CA Secretary of State these can be easily abated online!
Thanks for your easily digestible advice!
Thank you Brian! This is somewhat helpful.
Thank you for the info that may come in handy for anyone some day.
Absolutely, my pleasure!
Great info and a Great Channel!
Thank you for your videos.
Great info Brian
What if you are trying to get the penalties waived from 2016 but owe 2017 & 2018. Also, had immaculate filling for years prior to 2016. Also do you file for the penalty when you are ready to pay off the an amount? Currently on a instalment agreement for all three years
Hi, thank you for this video - I just learned about estimated tax payment requirements last night... in the process of doing my taxes (surprise! 😲). I'm hesitant to share details on an open forum (would love to get your contact info if you give it! / could go into further depth), but suffice to say we had a one-time dramatic increase in AGI through withdrawing from our traditional IRA and, while learning abt the 10% early withdrawal penalty, I never saw or heard any mention of estimated tax payments in all of my research & even (several) consultations w financial professionals. With an otherwise great tax payment history, can simply not knowing about this requirement usually suffice? I also learned last night about form 2210, which sounds like a proactive way to "talk abt this" w the IRS when we file our taxes? Thanks so much for any help you can give!!
Should I wait to get the IRS letter saying I owe? Or should I try to call now? We have always paid our taxes on time with never being late. We owe a lot now but want to figure out a repayment plan without any interest or penalties.
How about sales tax? If I paid my sales tax late and incurred penalty fee, is there a 'right thing to say" to get it waived?
Getting ready to go to court with my previous city about 7 years of late file penalties and interest. The penalties are about 5x the filed amounts. Mind you, this city never once requested tax filing until we moved cities. We filed, they didn't charge anything in- office but sent to collections anyway and wages garnishment.
Good morning, Bryan. My question is, how do you minimize taxes on inherited property you are selling? Thank you for putting these videos out. Very helpful.
you need to ask chat GPT :) good luck!
Hello. I have a question, i hope you can help. If you set up a payment plan to pay on the penalty fees do you forfeit the right to an abatement appeal at a later date? The reason is that i cannot see my tax transcripts online and i am waiting for them in the mail, but i rather pay $50 a month on a payment plan than the $450 they are charging monthly for not receiving a payment every month. Thank you
Thanks for this info
Thank you for the video.
Hello Bryan, thank you for the well explained video. I still haven't filed my 2019 taxes. I received a bill in October of 2020 for a large amount. The IRS says I owe money from 2016 and 2017 but I received a return both of those years. I am unsure what happened and if my tax preparer did something incorrect. Should I file my 2019 then ask for the removal of penalties and interest or ask then file?
I watch all you stimulus updates. And brian you on it. Good job. I have a question about SSI TAXES. Could i get that back on my refund?
If you overpaid, then you can.
THK u applying the 1st Step LETS SEE HW IT GOES!

Is "I never got it in the mail" and "it came in a week after the deadline" a good excuse?
Thank you again for this. I had to dig for this vid
Ok so i have never run a company and well I am clueless to state and federal employee taxes and company taxes. I am trying to dig my self out right now. I have to file 2015, 2016,2017,2019 and 2020 941's what is your best advise to do so or should i hire someone to do this? The state and the Franchise have taken from my checking account so should i just send what they have charged me for and work a payment plan out with them for the other years.
Hi, Love your channel. Could you please make a video of interest rates, penalties and fees for late payments to IRS? Their information is too overwhelming and complicated to understand.. I owe about $6,500 personal tax due. They have 3 options. 90 Days, 180 Days or Monthly but wouldn't specify the fees and interest rates. Thanks!
Can you be a third party designee to do this, or do you need to have a professional license?
I have a client that owes taxes for 2019. they would like to make an installment agreement.. can i file an extension to avoid penalties for payment but sill file taxes now ? because the client need filed taxes for mortgage application
THANK YOU!!!❤
thanks for this.......
Good stuff 🎉
I saved thousands with abatement. I called again for another year and they also took off 1,500 for the other year. It’s a normal thing with the irs. Too bad, not many people know about this.
Hi question, I thought they only did abatements one time only????
@@doodoo9479 they did it for me. The second one wasn’t over the phone, I had to fill out a form.

Hey ClearTax Value is it possible to do a video about people doing tax write offs for the salvation army. We have a ton of clothes and electronics that I don't mind donating but need a way to get some kind of income. I'll most likely follow your advise to invest that money.
i owe every year and just keep paying my monthly installment agreement from 2016 and i just got a notice of intent to levy, any reason why they sent me this 3x for 2016-2017-2018 ? dont they send this when you stop paying your installment ?
Does this go the same for notice of deficiency?
Is there anyway I could email you. I'm a low income father in healthcare. And I have unique situation. And I'm struggling to get this handled. I'm living pay check to pay check with my 2 young boys. The irs trying to drown me over one single year
Im ubering in NYC The Irs recheck my 2017 tax and charge me another 4500$ What should i do. Plz help
Can someone please let me know where to find this form and where to send it??
Can I request the penalty abatements before I request a payment plan? Do the abatements of penalties apply to only paying the total in lump sum? I notice that the payment plan also has interest and penalties accruing during the payment term which would make the total payment even greater.
The abatements only apply to the penalties (failure to file AND failure to pay). You are still responsible for the interests but if you get the penalties abated, the interest might be lowered.
Thank you.
Thanks Vicki, I appreciate it!
I got penalty from WY. should I call to the state for waiver or I can waive off by calling IRS? plz respond to my question.
I have a question I was laid off from my employer and my employer retirement was closed and I withdrew my money since I was laid off. Is this considered a reasonable cause?
Can you make a video for business tax penalties?
Do you have any technique to get in line to talk with the irs agent or their secret phone number? I got failure to file and failure to pay penalties. I called and waited like 8 hours in order to talk to rep(got cut off 3 times) They told me that they would remove both since this is my first abatement, but when I got the letter mail, it only state failure to pay is removed, but it did not say anything about failure to file. Then I got another mail saying that I have to pay failure to file, but state that the previous failure to pay is removed. Usually, it said there are too many people Then proceed to hung up automatically many times.
Owe $61,000 from 2016.. received a letter in 2017 and my ignorance just brushed it off.. received a letter yesterday saying I owe $61k and $50k in penalties and fees... Can a tax agent try and waive the fees over the phone for me? Before I initiate it via letter? Tax history is clean. Never been late before.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE PAY OFF AMOUNT OF 25000.00 TAX OWE TO IRS
Are these still my options if I had lottery winnings and didn’t file them now I owe 3200 for back taxes in 2020?
Are you currently doing taxes? Meaning can someone hire you to do their taxes or does your company do audits?
I got 3 1099 forms from 2021 if I request for a first time penalty abatement would that apply for all 3 forms ??
Will this work on your actual tax debt?
Thank you
How long will IRS take to return money after receiving the 843 form if approved.
Will this abatement work for more than one year?
Does this apply to back taxes if you did not file ans did not ask for an extension?
Yes, but it is more effective if you go to them instead of when they demand you file.
Could the current pandemic be considered reasonable cause for getting these penalties/fees waived for not paying 2020 estimated taxes? My tax history is good (other than this year).
Considering the government is the one forcing you not to work, I say to hell with their penalties.
where do you send this form to?
If I have an excellent tax history during my working years and have had no income for over a year. I suffered a leg injury at work in 2016 and received Worker's comp until Aug 2019. I have an installment agreement based on an Ira payment tax error from 2015. I am about to exhaust my savings and unless I am able to find work (I'm 58) i will be unable to make anymore installment payments and may become homeless. Is there a way that you know of where I can explain my scenario and get my tax bill erased ?
@Regina Dan you should stop marketing your bullshit to innocent people.
Does the special IRS agent have the authority to waive the penalty ?
Does this work with cp2000?
I miss this channel 😕
IRS will not waive interest of the late payment.
Please advise way forward. Thanks
I withdrew my 401k which is $140,000. remainder of my 401k funds, I haven't work in two years. now I owe them 14,000 cuz I was unaware of The 10% penalty. I have $31,000 left in my bank account from the 401K funds. This is my only source of income. Can I settle this debt at a lower price?

Your my favorite Asian.
So I had to Amend my 2014 taxes because I didn't file a 1099K. My last 2 years of refunds were taken but after my Amended Return is processed the IRS will owe me a bunch of money. Should I wait for the IRS to refund that money before filing the Form 843???
You don't need to wait to file the Form 843. If they've already applied your refunds then there's nothing to wait on. Wow, they went back as far as 2014?
@@clearvaluetax9382 So I did get a reduced penalty refund for the form 843 and I assumed my amendment was just too old to process, but to my surprise I was just issued a refund for $12,500 for 2014. I did read somewhere that amendments go back 3 years from when the debt was paid, so because I didn't fully pay off my debt until 2019 that must be why the amendment went thru. I'm happy because that's $12,500 of tax free money that I was not expecting. They did give me $1500 from interest which I will have to pay taxes on.
What are we asking for here? Were saying "dear IRS please waive my fees because Ive been sick?" Im just trying to understand what to ask for
Why dont the Federal Reserve just start the printing presses up for the IRS and print out money for them? I dont get it?

I once told the IRS that I was afraid of my shadow and they forgave my late payment penalties. They realized how traumatic it was that my shadow was following me everywhere especially during day time hours.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised lol

I made a phone call to get my failure to pay penalties removed. It was granted for one year but not the other year. So I paid everything off. I received a letter in the mail in reference to their decisions a few days afterwards. I missed the appeal date. The denial letter states "If you don't appeal you may file a claim for refund after you pay the penalty". Are they referring to submitting the 843 abatement form?
@Regina Dan you are very annoying!

Man I owe the IRS money because I did not let them take taxes out my unemployment check because I did not know what was going on because of covid-19
The first $10,200 of Unemployment received in 2020 will be waived on the federal level. The IRS hasn’t released guidance on this yet but should in a week or two. On the State level isn’t waived though. This might be different for every state though. Also the IRS is looking to extend the filing deadline to mid May(15th or 17th)
Ow hell, I just filed bankruptcy. Tax problems fixed.
I heard bankruptcy does NOT erase money owed to the IRS. Is that incorrect?
If I ever had the opportunity to serve an IRS agent at my business, I would tell them to go to hell.
just pay what you owe, get a job that pays cash and be done with the feds period.
