Not that it’s a big deal or anything and I do like the spirit but that’s a real low bar and by that metric there are toooo many legends and the value of the legends therfore drops. Significantly
I come back to listen to this every so often. I think it’s one of my favourite ed sheeran songs because of how real it is, I mean just imagine that kind of pain - still being in love with someone who is happier with someone that isn’t you, like you weren’t good enough. It’s kind of bittersweet because when you love them you really want the best for them, so in a sense you’re happy that they’re happier, but there’s few things more painful than feeling that it should have been you, but isn’t.

I relate. I wish I was enough to help her but apparently I couldn't. Now I'm stuck with a broken heart and all these emotions.
This song reminds me of my wife i had, i was born in 1979 and so was she, we lived next door to one another and known each other since we were born, we'd ride our bikes to school everyday together, basically sleep over at each others houses every night. In high school i asked her out, she screamed when i did and she started crying and i remember her saying "I've been waiting for you to ask, ive liked you since year 1". That night i drove her to the Drive Ins and we watched a movie. Counting Pre school and after high school and college we were together for over 35 years until 7 years ago she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, 6 months later she passed away while i was with her, i felt the coldness in her and it spread to me it sent goosebumps down my neck and the grip she had while holding my hand was lost and she whispered to me "thank you for all time we have had together". That night i cried and screamed so hard my body totally collapsed and i passed out. Today me and my kids listen to this song together (6) and (8) years old. I cry to sleep every night knowing that shes never coming back... I want to end it all meet her in heaven but i cant loose my kids and they cant lose me. Thank-you for this song everyday and almost every hour i listen to this and im reminded of her. I miss you Emma and I miss my soulmate, Emma I love you more then anything else in this universe and i wish you were still here with me.

I know this feeling all too well, I used to be so close to this girl, we would laugh and tease each other. I really enjoyed those moments, our friendship sort of fell apart after I sort of admitted that I like her. She used to give me all these one-worded answers when we first met but I was able to bring down her walls, she is fun to chat with if you can make it past that. However after I admitted that I liked her, she became distant again, it pains me not because she didn't like me back but because I really thought I had made her feel comfortable enough to talk to me freely, I guess I was mistaken. Sigh... eventually I just had to block her, cuz every time I tried to figure out where we went wrong, she would still give me those one-worded answers, it just made me feel somehow. I really wish we could have gone back to the way we were but as long as she is happy, that is good enough for me, even if I was always happier when I was texting her. Such a wonderfully created and heart-felt song, I love it, thanks Ed!!!

Guys, I'm not looking for pity. I'm just here to share something of mine with the community.
I'm in love with this girl ... And I have no words for her. There are no words in any dictionary, whether it was written and thought of by Shakespeare or even the man who invented the English language himself. No words can describe how amazing she is ..There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with her. She's the only perfect being in this world. I can go on and on about her honestly, it's why my friends never ask me about her because they know I can talk about her till my last breath... The only problem is, She's not mine to even begin with ... And it hurts so much. It feels like you just keep seeing your life flash between your eyes on repeat ... I have sleepless nights because of her. And I'm not mad at all... I'm jealous in a way. heh, I know it's silly but that's just the way I am. And the thing is, I'll always love her, always have and I always will. It's as simple as that.
So, to the people who are going through a similar situation to me, I want you to know it'll get better... I 100% know that it doesn't feel like that ... but it will. And it's okay to feel angry. It's okay to be jealous and it's okay to feel lost. As long as you never lose sight of who you are as a person. It's okay. And know that there will always be someone out there that will love you, treasure you and never want to let go, you just don't know it yet...

Actually the moral is that when you fall in love, you feel like it's gonna be forever. You're really happy. Then reality happens and you're that balloon woman floating away with a shocked look on your face while Ed does a facepalm. Relationships are not easy for balloon people. Lot's of prickly and deflating situations. She should remember that, even though Ed said he would be there for her, he had a cactus in his home. Not good, Ed. Not good.
