  • I might be nosey, but I love to watch videos on what travel art supplies people take with them on vacation. Since I recently returned from a trip I thought I would add one more video to this ever growing genre. I packed way more than I needed. Being that we stayed in the same place for the entire trip this was fine, but if I were moving around I would only take my plein air watercolour setup and a few pens. This was all I really used anyway.
I am a beginning artist. I found the art world very intimidating for far too long. Now that I am older, I worry less about what others are thinking and more about what I would like to do. Currently, I am painting daily and learning so much. Finding joy in the act of creating. On this channel I am sharing my journey and what I have found works for me. A very beginning artist, who only learned the words plein air about a month ago :)

Thanks for this video. Very helpful ideas. I never knew of the travel brushes.

They work great when I am wanting to travel really small. I have been using this set up for #pleinairpril this year with a gouache palette, still works great! Happy painting!

I'm getting ready for a sketching trip also. I loved seeing your kit. I have a few recommendations for you. If you're having trouble getting the dry brush effect take a tissue and soak up some of the water at the very top of the bristles just under the ferrel. It's a Tony Couch trick. Secondly I see you like fountain pens, me too. The FPR fountain pen revolution Himalaya V2 with ultra flex nib❤. Carbon Black ink all the way. 👍

Thank you for the recommendations! You know what they say, “buying one fountain pen is just the beginning of a collection” 😂

That’s so funny, I have the same bag from the Dollar store, where I keep my dollar store clipboard to use as a lap easel such as you do. I live on the coast in B.C, so I hope you really enjoyed your trip. I have just made a portable art kit (Backpack) which is big enough to house the bag with the clipboard and my pencil cases and small Winsor Newton palette. I am just starting Plein Air sketching with watercolour wash. Thank you for sharing 🤗🇨🇦

Thanks for sharing, that is really cool. Great minds right 😂 I had a wonderful trip, I always love visiting the ocean. I actually used the board and bag to paint outside just today. Are you participating in #plainAirpril this year?

@@carolefreeman2544 love to, #pleinAirpril is an art challenge where the goal is to paint from life outside (plein air) daily each day in April. I plan on doing only 25 of the days, if you are interested I posted a video about it today. It will be the first time I am participating. I have only done one other challenge, inktober, and it was just so fun to see what other people where doing and to chat about it in real time :)

What good ideas ! A simple practical and light set! Perhaps the containers can be replace by an other system to have more water ( round hole for a glass on a wider board , a clamp for a glass?)

I use the top of one of my kids old tube socks to wipe my brush on. Put it on your wrist opposite your brush hand and then you can wipe your brush without dealing with papertowels and ziplock bags and stuff.

This was an excellent setup. I am curious if you find yourself needing more water than is available in those little pots? Or do you reach for water brushes more often than regular watercolor travel brushes while painting plein air? Thank you!

    • @makingmeaningnow

Hi! This set up video was filled last year and for the little watercolor paintings I was doing this was more than enough water. I have since moved into plein air painting with gouache and using other media on top, like crayon or colored pencils. For this I do find I need more water. However, for urban sketching, I want to be able to move fast so I still use the little clip on water container. I rarely opened the second pot even. I find I don’t use the water brushes unless I am traveling ultra light. Hope this helps!

Great video! Thank you! I always take way more than I use. It’s a good idea to do a post mortem and see what didn’t get used! Where did you get your magnet clips?

Thank you! I love watching these kinds of videos. I am both nosey and this seems to be where I get the best product suggestions. People seem to bring their favourite supplies with them on the road, the ones they just really can't live without. Happy art-ing!!

  • @beverley-memawmawclarkwhit5102

hello, for the medium cups....is there a rubber seal in the inside of the tops??? if there is not one, that's why they leak....

    • @makingmeaningnow
      @makingmeaningnow  Před rokem

Thanks for the comment :) There is a rubber seal, however it is really easy to not quite screw the lid on correctly, then they leak. So I didn’t really have trouble with them until I had used them for awhile. Most of the time they are fine and then, bam!, wet pencil case :)
