Ottoman Sherbet - Turkish Fruit Drink

- Ottoman Sherbet is a natural homemade drink made with plums, cherries, and spices. It is a very refreshing and intense flavored drink. You can experiment with a different mix of fruits too. Since I had grapes at hand I used some for this one. Sherbets (drinks) have a very important role in Ottoman cuisine. In the modern days of Turkey, it is most popular in the month of Ramadan, but nowadays begin to get more attention in other times too :)
Written recipe and more details here: www.turkishfoodtravel.com/2020...

Sharbat really means for us PAKISTANI especially in RAMADAN and SUMMER a lot we make sharbat with variety of fruits 😊. Love from PAKISTAN 🇵🇰
I love this recipe! My grandmother usually gets lots of plums from the trees during the summer, so she always prepares a similar drink in a more concentrated version and freezes it in smaller portions, and then she adds water and waits for it to melt ✨ this is the taste of my childhood summer 💕 (I'm Italian)
Yes, I too came to know of sherbet through watching Dirilis Ertugrul. Thank you for sharing. I hope to try making it one day.
In india and pakistan we have this sharbat named as ROOHAWZA, whish is so refreshing and you will find in each and every house of both the nations and i bet you once you will try it you will be amazed and will become addicted to it..
Yes😍
Rooh afza is just sugar n red color....It's not like this sharbat
True

Javeria Younas and rose patels :-)
Sharbat is a famous drink in Egypt as well. especially in weddings, Filistin'den selamlar 😍.
Yes but we Egyptians usually serve rose petals sherbet in weddings and islamic events such as new hijri year and such.
sherbet is made with lemon in Algeria
@@ReedaSOraby how do imake the rose petal one? My husband is Saed. It will make him happy when I learn more cooking and traditional things for him InshAllah ❤️
Loved it.. My dream is also going turkey and enjoy there's food and culture.. It's so beautiful and love everything about turkey.. Love from india 🇮🇳
Wallah I was very much interested to know what kind of red drink they served in drama Ertugrul 😂😂. Thank you Ayse Altanur for curing my curiosity 😊😘.💐
Me too 😁 I would love to learn more recipes from ertugrul
Like which ones?
Turkish Food Travel Meat was always on the table (main dish) 😄 that 🍲 soup looked delicious 😋. If we could learn that special recipe🤓👌.
Turkish Food Travel In Ertugrul series Halime serves this kind of red sherbet to Ertugrul. Sadettin Kopeck also drinks this type of red sherbet. Whenever those scenes come, my mouth fills with water 🤤🤤, I live in India and its hot in here so I always want to drink that Red Sherbet 🤗. Love the background tradition Turkish music 😘 in your videos.
@@heenaansari8408 we have roohafza i wonder if it has ottoman links/history.
Thanks for the recipie...i am in love with Turkey since i started watching Erturgrul..😉😅😍

Ah Turkey!!!

My mom always does this in summer , specially with plums or cornelian cherry we use a lot of them in Albania. 😊
I'll ask my mom to make this and drink this as I watch Ertugrul on Netflix. Love from India. In India we make a version of this called Rooh Afzah. Rose petals are also added in it. 😊😊
Rose petals must be beautiful in this
Mashallah
Or you could make it BY YOURSELF
Also in Bangladesh & Pakistan 😇😇
Rohafza

Lots of love from India 🇮🇳💐
That looks delicious Aysenur... I've never seen that type of drink where fruits are cooked to make it... In America we don't cook fruits to make drinks, we "crush" or grind them to extract as much as we can... We cook them only when we make some types of desserts 💖
I’m so happy and proud to have people like you in my culture!

Thank you! Another lovely recipe. We are going through some very hot weather right now in the Pacific Northwest, USA---so going to try making this sometime this afternoon. Your presentations of your recipes are always so stylish.
My pleasure, hope you enjoy it!
Sharbat reminds me of my childhood. We used to have dozens of different types of Sharbat during Moharram and Eid e Milad here in India. But we moved to big city. Still miss the life of small towns.
This js soo good! Please make more Ottoman recepies, they are all the rage nowadays❤
It has a natural beautiful color and I feel it's refreshing also
JazakAllah khair
This looks wonderful, Aysenur! Well done!
I made it few hours after you posted, it turned out amazing, thanks.
This looks so delicious! I love the spices you added! (Also, the bowls you use are so pretty, too!) Thank you for sharing with us. Wishing everyone a lovely day!
It seems to me that you're growing more and more confident when you present your recipes, your voice is much more relaxed. I'm really happy if that's the case, I have never studied all the recipes of a channel like I do with yours. I think cherry season is over in Italy now, but I want to try it with berries.
Luinmir Avafaila Yes, I totally agree with you 😊 Her voice is more relaxed and she is much more confident when presenting recipes which makes me happy because this is my favorite channel 👩🏻🍳❤️

Which one is the best among it ?
@@nighilshamsudeen , it changes according to your taste , I think in order to understand this , you must try all of them :) but I like fruit sherbets most.
I love turkey ... I wanna visit this beautiful land , meet its people, devour the delicious food and drinks everyday ... and your channel is absolutely amazing with your recipes...
This sherbet looks very refreshing! Will give it try this weekend and see what will it taste like! Thanks for your lovely recipes!
Looks so refreshing and healthy, must try this one in scorching Delhi summers.
I have made something very similar from one of my medieval cookbooks. The clove and cinnamon particularly add deliciousness :) I also make a vinegar and mint syrup that I cut with water. Everyone who tries it asks for the recipe. These are so refreshing in summer. Your pitcher and glasses are wonderful.
Can u share recipe to my account
I was looking for this recipe since i ve tried it in turkish restaurant i loved it thank u so much ur sister from morocco
First time I saw your channel drinking recipe is really superb u made fresh fruits I really like it inshALLAH I will try this fruit juice
Hi. This seems refreshing. I believe in Eastern Europe and some Asian countries they have similar variations. After all, the Ottomans ruled many countries for many centuries, and I'm sure in the end, culinary cultures mix!
I was having a conversation with my mum today about this. No wonder their cuisine is incredible, they have all ingredients and recipes from neighbouring countries that they ruled. Thank God thou cos where would we be without turkish food
@@sshh356 ,🤔🙄
What's in a name?! You call it sherbet, others sharbat, and others simply call it spiced mixed berry juice!
@Fahim Hussain Probably not? Kompot is made the same way to start; boiling fruit and adding sugar, but the difference is that you keep the fruit in and consume it. It's perfectly good for you! The spices are a nice touch here and probably make it complex though.
@Fahim Hussain Basically sherbat doesn't exist in East Europe, but the regional take on it, kompot, does.
This sherbet looks so yummy and radiant red colour is amazing👌
This drink was delicious and refreshing. My kids loved it. Thank you for sharing this recipe. May Allah always keep you in good health.
You're welcome.
Looks perfect for a hot summer day and refreshing. I love your jars and bowls, goes well with the sherbet.

When I first saw this, I thought it was hibiscus. Looks delicious. I'll try it.
Looking forward to making Turkish Sherbet, looks so refreshing.
The color of the drink is just amazing! the color alone gives a refreshing feeling!
I've been making Hibiscus flower sherbet the last days and my family has loved it, basically is the same procedure: boiling the hibiscus flowers with cloves, cinnamon, some lemon juice and then adding sugar. I´ll definitely try this one in shaa Allah.
I will try
Ahmad Glan do you have receipe for that step by step. thank you
Hibiscus tea is really delicious and it’s known for its medicinal properties for lowering high blood pressure.
@@FaadumoArdo Yes. You will need:
2liters of water, a 2-4 tbsp of hibiscus dried flowers , 2-3 cinnamon sticks, some cloves, 1lemon's juice and 2 cups of sugar (it's up to you the quantity of sugar you want to put in it.
The first step is to boil the water with cloves and cinnamon sticks for 5-10 minutes, then you'll add hibiscus flowers and lemon juice, after a while (maybe 2-3 min) add sugar and mix everything well, you will let everything cook for around 15-20 min and then you will let it cool.
Once it's cool you will strain it two or three times and if you want you can press the hibiscus flowers with a spoon to get more flavor, then you will put it in the refrigerator and when its completely cold you can serve it with ice and decorate it with some lemon slices. I highly recommend it as a summer drink or also to break one's fast in the month of Ramadan.

OTTOMANS AND TURKEY IN OUR HEARTS IN MUSLIMS OF INDIA MAY ALLAH SHOWER RAHMAT ON OUR ALL TURK BROTHERS AND SISTERS
In indonesia, especially in north coast of java, we make it with pineapple, manggo and kedondong. Then we use palm sugar, chilli, salt and crashed ice😁😁
Would love to hear from u the method....salam from Islamabad.....:-):-):-)
That sounds amazing.
@@babagama4232 just peel and slice the fruits. then boiling water with 1 litre of water, a half cup of palm sugar, a cup of sugar, sliced chilli as much as you want, and a half teaspoon of salt. After it boil, pour to those sliced fruit. And then, you should wait it to get room temp before you enjoy it with ice.
it will be get perfect taste if we have mature pineapple and kedondong, and halfway mature of manggo.

Also if you have enough place to frooze them,, frozen fruits could be boiled and have the same taste,,, as ı do
In the Caribbean & Latin America there is a spiced drink like this, but instead of fruits it is made with hibiscus flowers (a.k.a. roselle, Jamaica, karkade, sorrel, etc.). The spiced version is especially popular during Christmastime.
That’s interesting. We have sherbets with hibiscus too

Yes, we have komposto and hoşaf too without spices ;)
It looks delicious 😊 From a friend who is Peruvian, I learned to make a drink using the peel of a pineapple, apple chunks and lemon peel also using cinnamon and cloves.
